Two-species model for spatial distributions of sardine and anchovy: A comparison with real data
2010
We present a study of pattern formation in a set of two coupled equations modeling two competing species. We consider generalized Lotka-Volterra equations in the presence of a multiplicative noise which models the interaction between the species and the environment. The interaction parameter between the species is a random process which obeys a stochastic differential equation with a generalized bistable potential in the presence of a periodic driving term, which accounts for the environment temperature variation. We find noise-induced spatial patterns with strong anti-correlation between the two species. We compare our theoretical results with the experimental data of the spatial distributi…
Consumers’ acceptance of information and communications technology in tourism: A review
2017
The review provides a conceptual framework on e-tourism research.Research on e-tourism is grouped into three classifications.Research on these three groups are uneven.Synthesis of theories, theories and frameworks provided. The impact of information and communications technology (ICT) in tourism (e-tourism) has altered the ways tourism services are accessed and consumed. Ubiquitous and highly innovative ICTs provide different channels for consumers to use tourism services; thus, studies on e-tourism are numerous and fragmented. Different factors account for how consumers embrace these channels. The purpose of this study is to review studies on consumers acceptance or adoption of e-tourism i…
Reducing Power Consumption of Wireless Networks Through Collaborative DMC Mobile Clusters
2017
Reducing the energy consumption of the wireless network is significantly important to the economic and ecological sustainability of the ICT industry, as high energy consumption may limit the performance of wireless networks and is one of the main network costs. To solve energy consumption problem, especially on the terminal side, a scheme known as distributed mobile cloud (DMC) is considered to be a potential solution. Multiple mobile terminals (MTs) can cooperative to take advantage of good quality links among the MTs to save energy when receiving from the Base Station (BS). In this paper, we aim to find the optimal transmit power to further reduce the energy consumption of DMC. From simul…
Environmental Problem-solving and Hands-on Geometry Learning through Storytelling inside a Geodesic Dome : Ice, Honey and Stardust
2019
In this workshop, we introduce a STEAM learning activity based on the construction of geodesic domes. This workshop will engage participants in various preliminary and exploratory constructions, while also applying the geometry of geodesic domes to approximate hemispheres. Various storytelling, role-playing, and environmental connections that can provide needed context for learners of all ages are explored. peerReviewed
Control of Molecular Orbital Ordering Using a van der Waals Monolayer Ferroelectric
2022
Two-dimensional (2D) ferroelectric materials provide a promising platform for the electrical control of quantum states. In particular, due to their 2D nature, they are suitable for influencing the quantum states of deposited molecules via the proximity effect. Here, we report electrically controllable molecular states in phthalocyanine molecules adsorbed on monolayer ferroelectric material SnTe. In particular, we demonstrate that the strain and ferroelectric order in SnTe creates a transition between two distinct orbital orders in the adsorbed phthalocyanine molecules. By controlling the polarization of the ferroelectric domain using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), we have successfully…
Factors influencing tourists’ intention to use COVID-19 contact tracing app
2020
AbstractThe purpose of this study was to develop and test a model that explores the antecedents of tourists’ acceptance of COVID-19 contact tracing app (CTA). Data was obtained from a crowdsourcing platform (Pollfish), in which 400 respondents answered the questionnaire. We used SmartPLS to analyse the data. Results reveal that trust and structural assurance have the strongest relationship. Furthermore, the relationship between trust and destination safety was positive. Finally, self-efficacy moderated the relationship between trust and intention, implying that trust was stronger for tourists who have higher levels of self-efficacy. Recommendations are offered.
Liminality in paradise : a study in utopianism at the Punta Mona community
2009
This Master’s thesis is a study in utopianism at the Punta Mona Sustainable Living and Education Centre, an ecological community of North Americans living on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. The mission statement of Punta Mona is to show “sustainability” as a lived reality and to inspire individuals to return to mainstream society to enact change towards a more “eco-conscious” world. The main objective of this thesis is to critically examine the concept of sustainability as it is understood and practiced at Punta Mona and to raise questions over the tensions inherent in Punta Mona’s in-between position as an ecological community and ecotourism venture. What power structures are implicitly…
A liquid alkoxide precursor for the atomic layer deposition of aluminum oxide films
2020
For large-scale atomic layer deposition (ALD) of alumina, the most commonly used alkyl precursor trimethylaluminum poses safety issues due to its pyrophoric nature. In this work, the authors have investigated a liquid alkoxide, aluminum tri-sec-butoxide (ATSB), as a precursor for ALD deposition of alumina. ATSB is thermally stable and the liquid nature facilitates handling in a bubbler and potentially enables liquid injection toward upscaling. Both thermal and plasma enhanced ALD processes are investigated in a vacuum type reactor by using water, oxygen plasma, and water plasma as coreactants. All processes achieved ALD deposition at a growth rate of 1-1.4 angstrom/cycle for substrate tempe…
Modulāras un testējamas arhitektūras veidošana tīmekļa lietotnēm
2015
