Adjacency matrices of random digraphs: singularity and anti-concentration

Let ${\mathcal D}_{n,d}$ be the set of all $d$-regular directed graphs on $n$ vertices. Let $G$ be a graph chosen uniformly at random from ${\mathcal D}_{n,d}$ and $M$ be its adjacency matrix. We show that $M$ is invertible with probability at least $1-C\ln^{3} d/\sqrt{d}$ for $C\leq d\leq cn/\ln^2 n$, where $c, C$ are positive absolute constants. To this end, we establish a few properties of $d$-regular directed graphs. One of them, a Littlewood-Offord type anti-concentration property, is of independent interest. Mechanical properties of macroscopic magnetocrystals

Abstract We studied experimentally and by numerical simulations the mechanical response of arrays of macroscopic magnetic spheres when an external stress is applied. First, the tensile strength of single chains and ribbons was analyzed. Then, simple cubic (cP), hexagonal (Hx) and hybrid (cP-Hx) structures, called here magnetocrystals , were assembled and subjected to tensile stress, bending stress and torsion until failure was reached. Partitioning of nitrogen during melting and recycling in subduction zones and the evolution of atmospheric nitrogen

Abstract The subduction of sediment connects the surface nitrogen cycle to that of the deep Earth. To understand the evolution of nitrogen in the atmosphere, the behavior of nitrogen during the subduction and melting of subducted sediments has to be estimated. This study presents high-pressure experimental measurements of the partitioning of nitrogen during the melting of sediments at sub-arc depths. For quantitative analysis of nitrogen in minerals and glasses, we calibrated the electron probe micro-analyzer on synthetic ammonium feldspar to measure nitrogen concentrations as low as 500 μg g−1. Hydrothermal pressure-temperature control on CO2 emissions and seismicity at Campi Flegrei (Italy)

Fluids supplied by stored magma at depth are causal factors of volcanic unrest, as they can cause pressurization/heating of hydrothermal systems. However, evidence for links between hydrothermal pressurization, CO2 emission and volcano seismicity have remained elusive. Here, we use recent (2010−2020) observations at Campi Flegrei caldera (CFc) to show hydrothermal pressure, gas emission and seismicity at CFc share common source areas and well-matching temporal evolutions. Dukono, the predominant source of volcanic degassing in Indonesia, sustained by a depleted Indian-MORB

Noble gas magmatic signature of the Andean Northern Volcanic Zone from fluid inclusions in minerals

Trace volatile elements like He are key for understanding the mantle source signature of magmas and to better constrain the relative roles of subduction and crustal processes to the variability of along-arc chemical and isotopic signatures of magmatic fluids. Here we report on noble gas abundances and isotopic data of Fluid Inclusions (FIs) in eruptive products and/or fumarolic gases from the Colombia-Ecuador segment of Andean Northern Volcanic Zone (NVZ). Sulfide enrichment at an oceanic crust-mantle transition zone: Kane Megamullion (23°N, MAR)

Abstract The Kane Megamullion oceanic core complex located along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (23°30′N, 45°20′W) exposes lower crust and upper mantle directly on the ocean floor. We studied chalcophile elements and sulfides in the ultramafic and mafic rocks of the crust-mantle transition and the mantle underneath.
