Il carcinoide bronchiale: revisione della letteratura recente

2005

Objective: Yo evaluate methods of diagnosis and treatment, and the long term survival of patients treated for bronchial carcinoid tumor by the review of recent literature. Methods: The Authors conducted a retrospective study on internet-based-evidence of patients treated for bronchial car-cinoid tumor since 1993 to 2004. Symptoms, diagnosis, operative approach and survival were assessed. Conclusions: On the basis of the review of the international literature, the Authors affirm that the 5 and 10-year probability of survival are closely linked to the histological type of carcinoid, to the presence of nodal and distant metastasis. Owing to the potential malignancy of these tumours, preference…

Quality-control procedure for dry-process rubberised asphalt mastics

2019

Crumb Rubber (CR) can be incorporated into asphalt mixes via the dry process by directly adding CR into the mixer together with other asphalt mixture’s components, or with the wet process where the CR is used as a bitumen modifier. While the wet process allows an accurate monitoring of the interaction between CR and bitumen, the lack of control represents a main issue in the dry process. In fact, in the latter the CR particles keep swelling during hauling and possibly also after paving operations, often causing workability issues and premature failures. This study wants to provide a methodology that could help quality control procedures of bitumen/filler/rubber systems during mixing, haulin…

[Optimization of systemic treatments for chronic plaque psoriasis. Recommendations for switching and transitioning.]

2014

The aim of this study was to provide practical recommendations for optimizing the use of conventional and biological systemic treatments for moderate-severe chronic plaque psoriasis, particularly in case of transitioning and switching.A total number of 147 dermatologists from 33 different countries including Italy achieved consensus in providing practical recommendations for the use of conventional and biological treatments for moderate to severe psoriasis based on systematic literature review and/or expert opinion. In general, the continuous treatment regimen should be preferred in order to achieve a complete and long-term control of psoriasis. However, the treatment could be stopped or the…

Dexamethasone premedication suppresses vaccine-induced immune responses against cancer

2020

ABSTRACT Glucocorticosteroids (GCS) have an established role in oncology and are administered to cancer patients in routine clinical care and in drug development trials as co-medication. Given their strong immune-suppressive activity, GCS may interfere with immune-oncology drugs. We are developing a therapeutic cancer vaccine, which is based on a liposomal formulation of tumor-antigen encoding RNA (RNA-LPX) and induces a strong T-cell response both in mice as well as in humans. In this study, we investigated in vivo in mice and in human PBMCs the effect of the commonly used long-acting GCS Dexamethasone (Dexa) on the efficacy of this vaccine format, with a particular focus on antigen-specif…

Thermo-Mechanical Behaviour of Flax-Fibre Reinforced Epoxy Laminates for Industrial Applications

2015

The present work describes the experimental mechanical characterisation of a natural flax fibre reinforced epoxy polymer composite. A commercial plain woven quasi-unidirectional flax fabric with spun-twisted yarns is employed in particular, as well as unidirectional composite panels manufactured with three techniques: hand-lay-up, vacuum bagging and resin infusion. The stiffness and strength behaviours are investigated under both monotonic and low-cycle fatigue loadings. The analysed material has, in particular, shown a typical bilinear behaviour under pure traction, with a knee yield point occurring at a rather low stress value, after which the material tensile stiffness is significantly r…

Effect of NaOH Treatment on Properties of Phoenix Sp. Fiber

2016

The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of an alkali treatment on physical, chemical, mechanical, and morphological properties of Phoenix Sp. fibers. The use of natural fibers as reinforcement in polymer composites requires a deep investigation to understand their behavior and which treatment is more appropriate to improve the quality of the untreated material. For this reason, fibers were extracted from the petioles of the Phoenix Sp. plant and they were treated with NaOH solution in different weight concentrations (5%, 10%, and 15%). The mechanical behavior was investigated through tensile test on single fiber at different gauge length (20 mm, 30 mm, 40 mm, 50 mm, and 60 mm). C…

Towards gender awareness in couple therapy and in treatment of intimate partner violence

2017

Gender is the most pervasive classification of individuals and thus strongly defines couple relationships. Cultural discourses on couple relationships reproduce hierarchical gender differences, and couple distress is often linked to gendered power inequalities. At worst, gender is the basis for intimate partner violence (IPV). Generally, however, therapeutic interventions do not address the issues of gender and gendered power. This paper discusses the meaning and functions of gender in the context of couple therapy, in particular for IPV. It is argued that the therapist needs to be skilled in discursive deconstruction to be able not only to address the client’s situation as an individual ex…

Longitudinal and cross-sectional associations of adherence to 24-hour movement guidelines with cardiometabolic risk

2022

This study aimed to examine 1) adherence to 24-hour movement guidelines over a 2-year follow-up in children aged 6-8 years and 2) association of this adherence with cardiometabolic risk factors. Physical activity and sleep were assessed by a monitor combining heart rate and accelerometry measurements. Screen time was reported by the parents. Body fat percentage, waist circumference, blood glucose, serum insulin, plasma lipids and blood pressure were assessed, and a cardiometabolic risk score was calculated using z-scores. Children were classified as meeting the guidelines if they had on average ≥60min/day of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity during the valid days; ≤120min/day of screen…

Decompressive Craniectomy Improves QTc Interval in Traumatic Brain Injury Patients

2020

Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is commonly associated with cardiac dysfunction, which may be reflected by abnormal electrocardiograms (ECG) and/or contractility. TBI-related cardiac disorders depend on the type of cerebral injury, the region of brain damage and the severity of the intracranial hypertension. Decompressive craniectomy (DC) is commonly used to reduce intra-cranial hypertension (ICH). Although DC decreases ICH rapidly, its effect on ECG has not been systematically studied. The aim of this study was to analyze the changes in ECG in patients undergoing DC. Methods: Adult patients without previously known cardiac diseases treated for isolated TBI with DC were studied. EC…
