Olive yield as a function of soil moisture dynamics
2011
This study introduces a water-driven crop model aiming to quantitatively link olive yield to climate and soil moisture dynamics using an ecohydrological approach. A mathematical model describing soil moisture, evapotranspiration and assimilation dynamics of olive orchards is developed here. The model is able to explicitly reproduce two different hydroclimatic phases in Mediterranean areas: the well-watered conditions in which evapotranspiration and assimilation assume their maximum values and the real conditions where the limitations induced by soil moisture availability are taken into account. Annual olive yield is obtained by integrating the carbon assimilation during the growing season, …
Organization into higher-ordered ring structures counteracts membrane binding of IM30, a protein associated with inner membranes in chloroplasts and …
2017
ABSTRACT PspA, IM30 (Vipp1) and LiaH, which all belong to the PspA/IM30 protein family, form high molecular weight oligomeric structures. For all proteins membrane binding and protection of the membrane structure and integrity has been shown or postulated. Here we discuss the possible membrane chaperoning activity of PspA, IM30 and LiaH and propose that larger oligomeric structures bind to stressed membrane regions, followed by oligomer disassembly and membrane stabilization by protein monomers or smaller/different oligomeric scaffolds.
A Closer Look at Economic Context in Identity Distress, Identity Development, and Adjustment to University
2020
In this study, national rates of youth unemployment were used as a proxy for economic disruption and stability in Spain and Canada, respectively. Identity distress was examined in relation to ident...
FATIGUE FAILURE CRITERIA FOR MATERIALS UNDER RANDOM TRIAXIAL STATE OF STRESS
1984
SUMMARY Five fatigue failure criteria are formulated for a random triaxial state of stress whose components have zero mean values. It is assumed that fatigue failure is determined by the stress and strain components that act on an expected fracture plane. It is shown that in some special cases the proposed failure theories reduce to classical theories applied for sinusoidal stresses.

Mechanical Stresses: Inhibitor of Catalyst of High Temperature Oxidation?
2001
Oxidation of metals is a complex reaction in which mechanical and chemical phenomena occur. A dynamic and macroscopic model is developed in order to simulate oxidation kinetics of a metal. It includes the stress/diffusion coupling in the bulk and the interfacial phenomena at metal/oxide interface. Its application to the Zr/ZrO 2 system shows the important role of stress field distribution in oxide on kinetic behavior. According to the sign of stress gradient in the oxide scale, the oxidation rate can speed up or slow down. The calculated kinetic curves could he fitted using a k p .t 1/n law where n and kp vary all over the process, like for the experimental kinetic curves.
Citohroma c peroksidāzes loma Zymomonas Mobilis termiskā un oksidatīvā stresa noturībā
2020
Lai pētītu Zymomonas mobilis citohroma c peroksidāzes ietekmi uz celmu termiskā un oksidatīvā stresa noturību, izveidots plazmīdas konstrukts ar ccp gēnu. Ar to transformēts Zymomonas mobilis celms Zm6.
Automated Characterization of Mouth Activity for Stress and Anxiety Assessment
2016
International audience; Non-verbal information portrayed by human facial expression, apart from emotional cues also encompasses information relevant to psychophysical status. Mouth activities in particular have been found to correlate with signs of several conditions; depressed people smile less, while those in fatigue yawn more. In this paper, we present a semi-automated, robust and efficient algorithm for extracting mouth activity from video recordings based on Eigen-features and template-matching. The algorithm was evaluated for mouth openings and mouth deformations, on a minimum specification dataset of 640x480 resolution and 15 fps. The extracted features were the signals of mouth expa…
Geometric représentations of the braid groups
2010
We show that the morphisms from the braid group with n strands in the mapping class group of a surface with a possible non empty boundary, assuming that its genus is smaller or equal to n/2 are either cyclic morphisms (their images are cyclic groups), or transvections of monodromy morphisms (up to multiplication by an element in the centralizer of the image, the image of a standard generator of the braid group is a Dehn twist, and the images of two consecutive standard generators are two Dehn twists along two curves intersecting in one point). As a corollary, we determine the endomorphisms, the injective endomorphisms, the automorphisms and the outer automorphism group of the following grou…
