Effects of defects on the tensile strength of short-fibre composite materials
2014
Abstract. Heterogeneous materials tend to fail at the weakest cross-section, where the presence of microstructural heterogeneities or defects controls the tensile strength. Short-fibre composites are an example of heterogeneous materials, where unwanted fibre agglomerates are likely to initiate tensile failure. In this study, the dimensions and orientation of fibre agglomerates have been analysed from three-dimensional images obtained by X-ray microtomography. The geometry of the specific agglomerate responsible for failure initiation has been identified and correlated with the strength. At the plane of fracture, a defect in the form of a large fibre agglomerate was almost inevitably found.…

Yliopisto-opiskelijan kokema päivittäinen hyvinvointi ja stressi
2016
Tutkielmassa selvitettiin, mitä hyvinvoinnin lähteitä yliopisto-opiskelijan arkeen kuuluu, miten opiskelijat pyrkivät hallitsemaan stressiään sekä minkälaisia yhteyksiä opiskeluun liittyvillä tekijöillä on opiskelijan kokemaan hyvinvointiin. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on tuottaa niin oppilaitoksille kuin erilaisten tukipalveluiden tuottajille tietoa opiskelijan hyvinvoinnin erityispiirteistä. Tutkimuksen aineistonkeruumenetelmänä toimi mobiilipäiväkirja. Tutkittavat (N=85) vastasivat viikon ajan, kerran päivässä hyvinvointiin ja stressinhallintaan liittyviin kysymyksiin matkapuhelimellaan. Vastauksia analysoitiin sisällönanalyysilla. Tärkeimpiä yliopisto-opiskelijan hyvinvoinnin lähteitä oli…
Ambient Air Pollution Increases the Risk of Cerebrovascular and Neuropsychiatric Disorders through Induction of Inflammation and Oxidative Stress
2020
Exposure to ambient air pollution is a well-established determinant of health and disease. The Lancet Commission on pollution and health concludes that air pollution is the leading environmental cause of global disease and premature death. Indeed, there is a growing body of evidence that links air pollution not only to adverse cardiorespiratory effects but also to increased risk of cerebrovascular and neuropsychiatric disorders. Despite being a relatively new area of investigation, overall, there is mounting recent evidence showing that exposure to multiple air pollutants, in particular to fine particles, may affect the central nervous system (CNS) and brain health, thereby contributing to …
Pētījumā piedalījās 46 respondenti ( sievietes - 89%) vecumā no 24 līdz 64 gadiem. Darba stāžs pedagogiem no 1 līdz 41 gadam (vidējais 18 gadi). Pētījumā tika izmantota kvalitatīvā metodes - daļ…
Moving on the trajectory : a qualitative study of new immigrants' acculturation in Finland
2015
With a steady growth of immigration in Finland, the current number of immigrants has reached nearly 6% of the total population. These immigrants have crossed cultural boundaries for a new home and better life in Finland, but often face the compound challenges of navigating a new culture while striving to function efficiently in an unfamiliar environment. Thus, the aim of this study is to investigate new immigrants’ acculturation in Finland. Previous studies have been focused on either refugees or returnees, so this study aims to produce an inclusive investigation of acculturation of on both forced and voluntary immigrants, as well as returnees who have engaged in the official integration pl…
Social support and well-being of refugees in Finland
2018
Objective: The objective of this study was to explore the impact of social support on acculturation process and its’ outcomes on the current mental and physical health of refugees resettling in Jyväskylä, Finland. Method: Data were gathered qualitatively. Eight participants of refugee back ground filled out a questionnaire assessing sociodemographic information and participated in semi-structured interviews. Two interviews were held individually and two focus-group ones. To analyse the data, qualitative thematic analysis was used. Results: Refugees settling in Finland evidenced experiences of acculturative stress. Participants had received social support both from formal and informal networ…

Role of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) of Klebsormidium nitens: Identification and characterization of partners
2021
National audience; Nitric oxide (NO) is an important cellular signaling molecule across kingdoms. During bioticor abiotic stresses, NO burst is detected in both plants and mammals although no sequenceencoding the well described mammalian NO synthase (NOS) is highlighted in plants. Comparedto terrestrial plants, some algae present transcripts encoding the NOS-like enzyme. Amongthem, Klebsormidium nitens the model alga to study the early transition step from aquatic algaeto land plants is found. As mechanisms governing NO synthesis and signaling in green lineageremain unclear, the study of NOS from K. nitens (KnNOS) through (i) the identification ofregulator proteins, (ii) the identification …
