Inhibition of intracellular Ca2+ release by a Rho-kinase inhibitor for the treatment of ischemic damage in primary cultured rat hippocampal neurons.

2008

The effects of hydroxy fasudil, a specific Rho-kinase inhibitor, on behavior and brain neuronal activity in animal studies have been described previously. However, whether a Rho-kinase inhibitor can directly protect neurons against ischemic damage and the molecular mechanisms underlying these effects are poorly understood. The present work was designed to investigate the effect of hydroxy fasudil against oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) induced acute neuronal injury and the underlying mechanisms in vitro. Pretreatment with hydroxy fasudil at 5 and 10 microM could concentration-dependently improve cell viability and decrease Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) level in extracellular solution of neur…

Clinical Benefits of Early Triptan Therapy for Migraine

2004

The introduction of the triptans brought advances in achieving complete and sustained pain resolution in migraine patients, compared with non-migraine-specific treatments. However, sustained pain-free rates for triptans recorded in many clinical trials are still relatively low. This may be due to study participants being treated late into the attack, when pain is already moderate or severe. Studies with almotriptan have shown that efficacy is enhanced when treatment is given early in a migraine attack while pain is still mild, compared with later administration when pain intensity is greater. Developments in our understanding of migraine pathophysiology provide a rationale for this phenome…

99mTechnetium-Mercaptoacetyltriglycin (MAG3) zum Nachweis von Nierenveränderungen nach extrakorporaler Stoßwellenlithotripsie

1992

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) has become the treatment of choice for urinary calculi. 117 patients were studied prospectively with 99mTc mercaptoacetyltriglycine (MAG3) before and after ESWL. 79 (66%) of the 119 kidneys treated had abnormal findings. Of these 63/119 (53%) had abnormal scans. 41 (65%) had focal lesions with a delayed intrarenal transport. The remaining 22 had a diffuse delay of intrarenal transport. A loss of relative renal function of 3% and more compared to the pretreatment values was observed in 50/119 (42%) patients. 99mTc MAG3 should be done routinely together with radiologic tests (CT or MRI) before and after ESWL to select the patients at risk for post …

Similar biomechanical properties of four tripled tendon graft models for ACL reconstruction

2021

Abstract Purpose The present study tested and compared the biomechanical properties of four different triplicate graft tendon techniques. Methods 32 tripled tendons from the common extensor muscle of bovine fingers were tested on a material testing machine, passing the end loop over a metal rod of a clevis connected to the load cell on the upper side, and fixing the lower end to a clamp. The samples were divided into four groups: (A) tripled with a free end sutured only to one of the two fixed bundles (B) tripled with a free end positioned between the two fixed strands and sutured to both (C) tripled with an S-shape and all the three strands sutured together at the upper and lower extremiti…

Is there a critical tissue oxygen tension for bioenergetic status and cellular pH regulation in solid tumors?

1996

Bioenergetic and metabolic status have been correlated with tissue oxygenation in murine fibrosarcomas (FSaII) of varying sizes (44-600 mm3). Ratios of beta-nucleoside triphosphates to inorganic phosphate (beta NTP/P) and phosphocreatine to inorganic phosphate (PCr/P(i)) ratios derived from 31P nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) were positively correlated to median tissue O2 tension (pO2) values using O2-sensitive needle electrodes. pH declined during growth with intracellular acidosis being evident in tumors350 mm3. Whereas lactic acid formation greatly contributed to this decline in small and medium-sized tumors, adenosine triphosphate (ATP) hydrolysis and slowing down of the a…

Intracellular acidosis in murine fibrosarcomas coincides with ATP depletion, hypoxia, and high levels of lactate and total Pi

1994

Bioenergetic and metabolic status of murine FSaII tumours were evaluated using 31P MRS, acid extracts ('global' techniques) and quantitative bioluminescence ('microregional' assay). Data obtained from s.c. tumours of varying sizes (44-600 mm3) have been correlated with the oxygenation status evaluated using O2-sensitive needle electrodes. beta-NTP/Pi and phosphocreatine (PCr)/Pi ratios derived from 31P MRS were positively correlated to the median tissue pO2 values. pH declined during growth with intracellular acidosis being evident in tumours > 350 mm3. Whereas lactic acid formation greatly contributed to this decline in small- and medium-sized tumours, ATP hydrolysis and slowing down of th…

MUSCLE BIOENERGETICS IN OBESE ZUCKER RATS

1994

International audience; Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the energetic metabolism in obese Zucker rats, using phosphorus nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy at rest and during a 2-Hz muscle stimulation and subsequent recovery. Animals were anesthetized with ketamine (150 mg/kg ip). Fed obese rats and 2-day-fasted obese rats were compared with their normally fed and 2-day-fasted lean litter mates. No differences were found between the two groups for ATP, total creatine, phosphocreatine (PCr), and intracellular pH. Starvation in lean rats resulted in a significant fall in inorganic phosphate (Pi), increased resting ADP level, and decreased PCr and ADP recovery after …

Irregularity of the posterior corneal surface during applanation using a curved femtosecond laser interface and microkeratome cutting head.

2012

PURPOSE: To evaluate the irregularity of the posterior corneal surface and intrastromal dissection during the preparation of donor tissue for Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) using a curved interface femtosecond laser and microkeratome. METHODS: Sixteen human donor corneas unsuitable for transplantation were divided into two groups: a femtosecond (FS) laser group (n=7) using the VisuMax femtosecond laser (Carl Zeiss Meditec) and a microkeratome group (n=9) using the Amadeus II microkeratome (Ziemer Ophthalmic Group). The corneas were fixed on artificial anterior chambers. Horizontal cross-sections were obtained using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography…
