Lake restoration influences nutritional quality of algae and consequently Daphnia biomass
2020
AbstractFood quality is one of the key factors influencing zooplankton population dynamics. Eutrophication drives phytoplankton communities toward the dominance of cyanobacteria, which means a decrease in the availability of sterols and long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (EPA and DHA). The effects of different restoration measures on the nutritional quality of the phytoplankton community and subsequent impacts on zooplankton biomass have rarely been considered. We analyzed the nutritional quality of phytoplankton in the eutrophic Lake Vesijärvi in southern Finland over a 37-year period, and studied the impacts of two restoration measures, biomanipulation and hypolimnetic aeration, on th…

Erityistä tukea tarvitsevan lapsen sosiaalinen osallisuus : päiväkodin vapaan leikin tarkastelu
2014
Lapsen osallisuutta on tutkittu paljon viime vuosina.

Predicting school students’ physical activity intentions in leisure-time and school recess contexts: Testing an integrated model based on self-determ…
2021
BackgroundIdentifying psychological correlates of children's physical activity intentions may signpost potentially modifiable targets for interventions aimed at promoting physical activity participation. School recess and leisure-time outside of school are appropriate contexts in which such interventions may be delivered. However, few studies have identified correlates of physical activity intentions in these environments. Examining correlates in these contexts may provide formative evidence on which to base interventions to promote physical activity.PurposeThe current study adopted an integrated theoretical model to test relations between motivational constructs from self-determination the…

A randomized controlled trial for response of microbiome network to exercise and diet intervention in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
2021
AbstractExercise and diet are treatments for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and prediabetes, however, how exercise and diet interventions impact gut microbiota in patients is incompletely understood. We previously reported a 8.6-month, four-arm (Aerobic exercise, n = 29; Diet, n = 28; Aerobic exercise + Diet, n = 29; No intervention, n = 29) randomized, singe blinded (for researchers), and controlled intervention in patients with NAFLD and prediabetes to assess the effect of interventions on the primary outcomes of liver fat content and glucose metabolism. Here we report the third primary outcome of the trial—gut microbiota composition—in participants who completed the trial (22 i…
Self-regulation and high school athletes : an action research case study
2018
Self-regulatory skills are considered vital for proper child development, with some children not being able to self-regulate efficiently being put at high levels of risk for poor developmental outcomes (Zimmerman, 2007). A psychological skills training programme is one such avenue to teach self-regulatory skills to children. Research shows that children who take part in a psychological skills training from a young age are building a positive foundation for their future (Sharp et al., 2013). The purpose of this study is to identify whether high school athletes can develop self-regulation skills from partaking in a psychological skills training programme. Sixteen participants took part in the…
Teachers' visual focus of attention in relation to students' basic academic skills and teachers' individual support for students: An eye-tracking stu…
2022
This study investigated how teachers' visual focus of attention is associated with students' basic academic skills and teachers' individual support for students in basic academic skills in authentic classroom settings. Teachers' (N = 46) visual focus of attention in the classroom was measured with mobile eye-tracking, and students' (N = 879) literacy and math skills were tested in Grade 1. The results revealed that teachers' visual focus of attention in terms of fixation counts correlated with students' basic academic skills and teachers' individual support for students in literacy and math. Two case studies showed that teachers' visual focus of attention varied among students with differen…
