OPTIMIZATION OF A NOVEL MAGNETO-RHEOLOGICAL DEVICE WITH PERMANENT MAGNETS

In this paper a novel evolutionary algorithm is used for the optimization of the performance of a magnetorheological (MR) device, capable to transmit torque between two shafts and powered by a system of Permanent Magnets (PMs). The stochastic, evolutionary, global optimization algorithm is based on a modified version of the self-organizing map. It uses a dedicated simplified analytical model of the device, developed in order to obtain a fast and accurate evaluation of the torque. Abstract ZnO thin films were deposited by home-made DC sputtering of zinc target under mixed gases (Argon, Oxygen) plasma on glass substrates. Films were deposited by varying oxygen partial pressure (PO2) from 0.09 to 1.3 mbar in the deposition chamber, at a fixed substrate temperature of 100 °C. The samples were characterized by photoluminescence (PL), X-ray diffraction (XRD), optical transmissions (UV–vis), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electrical (Hall effect) measurements. Antiferromagnetic NiO thickness dependent sign of the spin Hall magnetoresistance in γ-Fe 2 O 3 /NiO/Pt epitaxial stacks

We study the spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) in epitaxial γ–Fe2O3/NiO(001)/Pt stacks, as a function of temperature and thickness of the antiferromagnetic insulating NiO layer. Upon increasing the thickness of NiO from 0 nm to 10 nm, we detect a sign change of the SMR in the temperature range between 10 K and 280 K. This temperature dependence of the SMR in our stacks is different compared to that of previously studied yttrium iron garnet/NiO/Pt, as we do not find any peak or sign change as a function of temperature. We explain our data by a combination of spin current reflection from both the NiO/Pt and γ-Fe2O3/NiO interfaces and the thickness-dependent exchange coupling mode between the …
Continuous hydrothermal synthesis in supercritical conditions as a novel process for the elaboration of Y-doped BaZrO3

Abstract The present work describes a novel process for the elaboration of a ceramic material. Y-doped barium zirconate, an electrolyte material for Protonic Ceramic Fuel cell, was synthesized by a continuous hydrothermal process in supercritical conditions (410 °C/30.0 MPa) using nitrate precursors and NaOH reactants. The use of supercritical water allowed the formation of particles of about 50 nm in diameter with a narrow size distribution. X-Ray Diffraction examination revealed that a major perovskite phase with few BaCO3 and YO(OH) impurities was obtained. BaCO3 is assumed to form due to faster kinetics than Y-doped BaZrO3 resulting in a Ba-deficient perovskite phase. The Ba-deficiency …
Evaluation of nano/submicro pores in suspension plasma sprayed YSZ coatings

Abstract Nano-submicro pores could considerably influence the coating performances and thus should be properly designed for the intended applications. However, it is challenging to characterize accurately such small pores in coatings. In this study, YSZ coatings were firstly manufactured by suspension plasma spray (SPS) and the nano-submicro pores in as-prepared coatings were investigated using Ultra-small-angle X-ray scattering (USAXS). Space Charges and Partial Discharges Simultaneous Measurements under DC Stress

In the field of HVDC, the main causes of insulation aging are due to the space charge and PD phenomena. In particular, the purpose of the present work is to verify a possibility to measure simultaneously the space charge and the PDs under DC stress in order to evaluate the correlation between both phenomena. The space charge was measured by using a modified PEA cell and PDs were measured by using a novel wireless sensor system. The space charge profile and the PD pulses carried out simultaneously have been reported and discussed.

Performances and duration of the new generation of high voltage power electronic components are dependent on dielectric materials aim to insulating their internal terminals. Partial discharge detection and localization along medium voltage cables

In the last years different partial discharge (PD) measuring techniques have been developed because PD diagnostic is the most widely tool to evaluate the insulation condition of a power cable. Recently non-conventional methods and sensors have been used in order to reach improved results in PD measurements. The purpose of this work is to perform measurements that allow to study the variation of pulses when they travel along a MV cable and to locate the pulse source through the time arrival difference of the pulses obtained from two sensors installed separately.
