MgO Magnetic Tunnel Junction Electrical Current Sensor With Integrated Ru Thermal Sensor

2013

Full Wheatstone bridge electrical current sensor incorporating 114 MgO-based magnetic tunnel junction elements (3 × 30 μm2) connected in series was produced for improved electrical robustness. To that end, magnetic tunnel junctions with R × A ~7 KΩ μm2 tunneling magnetoresistance of 200%, were produced. The sensor was designed with an integrated Ru thin film resistive thermal detector (RTD) for temperature drift monitoring and compensation. In order to achieve a full bridge signal, a U-shaped copper trace was placed under a printed circuit board (PCB) specifically designed for this type of device. The resulting device exhibit sensitivities of 63.9 V/Oe/A in a 75 Oe linear range biased with …

Monolayer Structure of Arachidic Acid on Graphite

2010

The self-assembly of arachidic acid (C(19)H(39)COOH) at the liquid solid interface between 1-phenyloctane (C(6)H(5)(CH(2))(7)CH(3)) and highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) is studied by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) to identify the structure of the monomolecular film. We observe the formation of highly ordered domains with molecules oriented in three different orientations compatible with the symmetry of the HOPG substrate, a spontaneous enantiomeric separation of the pro-chiral molecules, and reveal structural details with submolecular resolution. To determine the surface unit cell with an intrinsic calibration to the substrate atomic structure, the intermolecular distance is p…

Tuning the Pseudospin Polarization of Graphene by a Pseudomagnetic Field.

2016

One of the intriguing characteristics of honeycomb lattices is the appearance of a pseudo-magnetic field as a result of mechanical deformation. In the case of graphene, the Landau quantization resulting from this pseudo-magnetic field has been measured using scanning tunneling microscopy. Here we show that a signature of the pseudo-magnetic field is a local sublattice symmetry breaking observable as a redistribution of the local density of states. This can be interpreted as a polarization of graphene's pseudospin due to a strain induced pseudo-magnetic field, in analogy to the alignment of a real spin in a magnetic field. We reveal this sublattice symmetry breaking by tunably straining grap…

Scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy of Mo clusters grown on TiO2(110).

2007

Molybdenum was deposited in two steps (3 eq. ML and 1 eq. ML) on the light blue rutile TiO2 10) (1 x 1) surface at room temperature, each Mo deposition cycle being followed by an annealing up to 950-1000 K. This procedure was found to lead to formation of separated clusters having a size in very wide range (1-20 nm). Scanning tunneling microscopy showed a dependence of the cluster morphology as a function of the size. The scanning tunneling spectra of Mo clusters was studied as a function of cluster dimensions and discussed in comparison with photoelectron spectroscopy results previously obtained for homogeneous Mo films. The dI/d V curves do not display the valence band structure of deposi…

Imaging of surface plasmon propagation and edge interaction using a photon scanning tunneling microscope

1994

We report the direct imaging of surface plasmon propagation on thin silver films using the photon scanning tunneling microscope. It is found that the surface plasmon remains tightly confined in the original launch direction with insignificant scattering to other momentum states. A propagation length of 13.2 \ensuremath{\mu}m is measured at \ensuremath{\lambda}=632.8 nm. We also present images showing the interaction of a surface plasmon with the edge of the metal film supporting it. The most remarkable feature is the absence of specularly reflected beam.

Field-induced tip–sample oxygen transfer in scanning tunneling microscopy on TiO2(110) (1 1).

2008

International audience; A study on the field-induced tip–surface oxygen transfer at room temperature and its influence on the tunneling conditions for stable STM imaging of the TiO2(110) (1 1) surface is reported. A simple model of field-induced transfer is applied to tungsten and platinum–iridium tips. The oxygen transition rates from the sample to the tip or from the tip to the sample depend on the oxygen desorption barriers formed at tunneling distance. For stable imaging the applied bias voltage has to balance the oxygen transfer probabilities in both directions. In the case of Pt/Ir tips, the tunneling conditions for images with clear evidence of bridging oxygen point defects have been…

Probability Distribution of the Residence Times in Periodically Fluctuating Metastable Systems

1998

We investigate experimentally and numerically the probability distribution of the residence times in periodically fluctuating metastable systems. The experiments are performed in a physical metastable system which is the series of a biasing resistor with a tunnel diode in parallel to a capacitor. The numerical simulations are performed in an overdamped model system with a time-dependent potential. We investigate both the cases where the system is deterministically overall-stable and overall-unstable. In the overall-unstable regime, the experimental and the numerically investigated systems show noise enhanced stability in the presence of a finite amount of noise. The determined P(T) is mult…

Transport service for session initiation protocol in SIP-T scenarios

2005

The traditional telephone service has undergone deep changes in the years concerning the techniques of commutation and signaling. Today, public switched telecom networks (PSTNs) and private integrated services networks (PINSs) are strongly directed to adopt IP-based backbone. If it is possible to transfer the voice on packet switching network, in such reliable way, using voice over IP (VoIP) techniques, there is not still a valid alternative to the signaling systems, reliable and unfailing, like signaling system n.7 (SST). Session initiation protocol (SIP) seems to be the best candidate. SIP is an application layer signaling protocol and the problem remains still opened for what it concerns…

Compression tests of cv. Nocellara del Belice table olives for texture evaluation during storage

2014

The influence of pasteurization temperature and time of treatment on the flesh firmness and the evolution of microbial communities was studied for table olives Cv. Nocellara del Belice, packed in glass jars and processed with a tunnel pasteurizer. Pasteurization at industrial scale was carried out within a tunnel pasteurizer applying the treatment at 75 °C for 8 min in the thermal center of the jars. Besides flesh firmness and microbial evolutions, pH, total ti-tratable acidity (TTA) and colour were evaluated for the table olives during storage at 6, 12 and 15 months from packing. Table olives showed a high stability and an acceptable flesh firmness for the entire period under observation. …
