Human chromosome 7 has a complex syntenic origin. It was divided into two segments in both the ancestral primate karyotype and in Platyrrhini. Nickel(II) complexes derived from α-amino amide ligands anchored to gel-type and monolithic polymers act as efficient catalysts for the enantioselective addition of dialkylzinc reagents to aldehydes. Similar to the analogous homogeneous systems, dual stereocontrol in addition products can be achieved by controlling the stoichiometry of the immobilized nickel complex. Aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes were alkylated in good yields with enantioselectivities comparable to those obtained with the homogeneous analogues. Enhanced Heterogeneous Catalytic Conversion of Furfuryl Alcohol into Butyl Levulinate

We study the catalytic condensation of furfuryl alcohol with 1-butanol to butyl levulinate. A screening of several commercial and as-synthesized solid acid catalysts shows that propylsulfonic acid-functionalized mesoporous silica outperforms the state-of-the-art phosphotungstate acid catalysts. The catalyst is prepared via template-assisted sol-gel polycondensation of TEOS and MPTMS. It gives 96 % yield (and 100 % selectivity) of butyl levulinate in 4h at 110 °C. Reaction profiles before and after a hot filtration test confirm that the active catalytic species do not leach into the solution. The cationic polymerization of styrene in CH2Cl2 with CF3SO3H as catalyst and at low monomer concentrations shows, at −15°C, −45°C and −60°C, the same formal dependence on monomer concentration. The dependence on the catalyst concentration is approximately but not exactly of a third order.

In the title compound, C25H36O6, the two central cyclohexane rings exhibit a chair conformation. The terminal cyclohexene and cyclopentane rings are in half-chair and envelope conformations (with the C atom bearing the methyl substituent as the flap), respectively. The methyl group of the butyrate chain is disordered over two orientations, with a refined occupancy ratio of 0.742 (6):0.258 (6). Intramolecular O—H...O and C—H...O hydrogen bonds are observed. In the crystal, molecules are linked by O—H...O hydrogen bonds into chains running parallel to theaaxis.

Sixteen molybdenum and tungsten complexes with tripodal or linear tetradentate amino bisphenol ligands were studied as catalysts for the epoxidation of cis-cyclooctene, 1-octene, styrene, limonene and α-terpineol. These complexes can be divided into different categories upon key features, i.e. central metal (Mo versus W), side-arm donor (O versus N), hybridization of the N-donor (pyridine versus amine), ligand geometry (tripodal versus linear diamine) and sterical hindrance (Me versus tert-Bu substituents in the phenol part).
