Reactor model for fast reactions in the micro-bubble column and validation
2007
A simple reactor model for predicting conversions in a micro-bubble column is described. It assumes fast reactions so that the gaseous component is readily consumed at the gas-liquid interface. Then, gas-liquid mass transfer becomes determining. As input parameters for the model, the hydrodynamics, specific interfacial area, and mass transport need to be described. Two fast model reactions, the catalytic oxidation of butyraldehyde and the absorption of CO2 in aqueous NaOH, show the applicability of the model but also its limits. The model was used for predicting reaction performance in dependence of operating conditions, in particular to get maximum conversion with the antagonistic paramete…
Investigation of the Interpolymer Complex between Hydroxypropyl Cellulose and Maleic Acid-Styrene Copolymer, 1
2004
The hydrogen bonding-interpolymer association of hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) with maleic acid-styrene (MAc-S) copolymer has been investigated in dilute aqueous solution by viscometry, turbidimetry and potentiometry. At a mixing ration between MAc-S and HPC of 10:90, the solution exhibits a phase separation upon heating, while for other mixing ration no phase separation could be detected. The stability of the interpolymer complex (IPC) increases as the temperatures rises. The stoichiometry of the IPC, in mole units, was estimated as being MAc-S:HPC=5:2. The thermodynamic functions (enthalpy and entropy) of the complexation process have been determined.
Investigation of the physiological impact and the mode of action of the pyoverdine from Pseudomonas fluorescens on Arabidopsis thaliana : links with …
2015
Siderophores are strong iron chelators produced by bacteria under iron deficiency conditions. In the present work, we studied the impact of the siderophore pyoverdine, produced by the plant growth promoting rhizobacteria Pseudomonas fluorescens C7R12, on plant physiology from phenotypic to molecular effects with a specific focus on plant growth, immune response and iron homeostasis. Based on our analysis of the mode of action of the non-protein amino acid β-aminobutyric acid (BABA), a priming inducer in plants, we studied more specifically the functional link between iron homeostasis and plant immunity. Under iron deficiency, P. fluorescens excretes the iron free form of pyoverdine (apo-pyo…
S-Nitrosation of Arabidopsis thaliana Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase 1 Prevents Its Irreversible Oxidation by Hydrogen Peroxide
2022
Tyrosine-specific protein tyrosine phosphatases (Tyr-specific PTPases) are key signaling enzymes catalyzing the removal of the phosphate group from phosphorylated tyrosine residues on target proteins. This post-translational modification notably allows the regulation of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades during defense reactions. Arabidopsis thaliana protein tyrosine phosphatase 1 (AtPTP1), the only Tyr-specific PTPase present in this plant, acts as a repressor of H2O2 production and regulates the activity of MPK3/MPK6 MAPKs by direct dephosphorylation. Here, we report that recombinant histidine (His)-AtPTP1 protein activity is directly inhibited by H2O2 and nitric oxide (NO) …
On the geographical distribution of pseudocholinesterase variants.
1975
The incidence of pseudocholinesterase (PCHE equals E.C. 3.1.1.8) variants in samples of 8 different population (total of 2218 individuals) is reported. Together with previously mentioned data from the literature, a general survey on the geographical distribution of PCHE isoenzymes is given. Possible reasons for present-day heterogeneity of their distribution are also discussed. Concerning the incidence of the C5 variant, it is pointed out that the validity of applying population genetic models depends upon the accuracy of the genetic basis.
Potential feasibility of atezolizumab-bevacizumab therapy in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma treated with tyrosine-kinase inhibitors
2022
Background: The combination of atezolizumab-bevacizumab has been proven to be superior to sorafenib for the treatment of unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma not amenable to locoregional treatments, be-coming the standard of care of systemic therapy.Aim: This study aimed at assessing real-world feasibility of atezolizumab-bevacizumab in patients treated with tyrosine-kinase inhibitors. Methods: Among 1447 patients treated with tyrosine-kinase inhibitors from January 2010 to December 2020, we assessed the percentage of those potentially eligible to atezolizumab-bevacizumab (according to IMbrave-150 trial criteria), and the overall survival of eligible and non-eligible patients. Results: 422 (…
A muscarinic inhibition of the noradrenaline release evoked by postganglionic sympathetic nerve stimulation
1969
1. The noradrenaline output from isolated rabbit hearts perfused with Tyrode solution was estimated fluorimetrically. The postganglionic sympathetic nerves of the heart were stimulated (10 shocks/sec; 1 msec) for three 1 min periods with intervals of 10 min. 2. The noradrenaline output evoked by 3 consecutive stimulation periods decreased exponentially. 3. Acetylcholine (10−9–10−6 g/ml) administered continuously one min before to one min after the second stimulation caused a dose-dependent reduction of the noradrenaline output evoked by the second stimulation to as low as 19% of the normal value. Acetylcholine in the concentrations applied did not cause a noradrenaline output by itself. 4. …
Inhibition by parasympathetic nerve stimulation of the release of the adrenergic transmitter
1970
Isolated rabbit atria were perfused with Tyrode solution containing (+)-amphetamine. Electrical stimulation of the right postganglionic sympathetic fibres caused an output of noradrenaline which was significantly decreased by simultaneous stimulation of the vagus nerves.
Metabolomics of Human Amniotic Fluid and Maternal Plasma during Normal Pregnancy
2016
Metabolic profiles of amniotic fluid and maternal blood are sources of valuable information about fetus development and can be potentially useful in diagnosis of pregnancy disorders. In this study, we applied 1H NMR-based metabolic profiling to track metabolic changes occurring in amniotic fluid (AF) and plasma (PL) of healthy mothers over the course of pregnancy. AF and PL samples were collected in the 2nd (T2) and 3rd (T3) trimester, prolonged pregnancy (PP) until time of delivery (TD). A multivariate data analysis of both biofluids reviled a metabolic switch-like transition between 2nd and 3rd trimester, which was followed by metabolic stabilization throughout the rest of pregnancy proba…
