In Vitro Evaluation of Enteric-Coated HPMC Capsules—Effect of Formulation Factors on Product Performance

2020

A comparative study on different enteric-coated hard capsules was performed. The influence of different formulation factors like choice of enteric polymer, triethyl citrate (TEC) concentration (plasticizer), talc concentrations (anti-tacking agent), and different coating process parameters on the sealing performance of the capsule and the disintegration time were investigated. Furthermore, the influence of different disintegration test methods (with disc vs. without disc and 50 mM U.S. Pharmacopoeia (USP) buffer pH 6.8 vs. biopredictive 15 mM phosphate buffer pH 6.5) was evaluated. All formulations showed sufficient but not equivalent acid resistance when tested. Polymer type was the main f…

Role of prostaglandin E2 in the invasiveness, growth and protection of cancer cells in malignant pleuritis.

2006

The recurrence of pleural effusions is a common event in a variety of neoplastic diseases. The objective of this study was to identify the mechanisms promoting the homing and growth of cancer cells within the pleural space. A cancer cell line recovered from malignant pleural fluids (lung adenocarcinoma cell line) that constitutively expresses cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) and all types of prostaglandin receptors was studied. It was first demonstrated using a matrigel system, that malignant pleural fluids increase the invasiveness of adenocarcinoma cells more than congestive heart failure (CHF) pleural fluids. Moreover, exposure to exudative malignant, but not to CHF pleural fluids, increased the…

Preparation, characterization and catalytic properties of vanadium oxides supported on calcined Mg/Al-hydrotalcite

1995

Abstract Vanadium oxide supported on calcined hydrotalcite has been investigated for the oxidehydrogenation of n-butane in the 500–550°C temperature interval. Hydrotalcite (Mg/Al atomic ratio of 2.77), consisting of a single phase only, has been employed as a support precursor. The vanadium catalysts (0–50, referred as wt.-% V 2 O 5 ) were prepared by impregnation of calcined hydrotalcite (450°C) with ammonium metavanadate (in an aqueous solution) or vanadyl acetylacetonate (in a methanolic solution), and then calcined at 600°C for 4 h. During the impregnation step, the support is transformed into hydrotalcite if aqueous solutions are used. However, it is not modified if methanolic solution…

Comparison of Different Processing Methods to Prepare Poly(lactid acid)–Hydrotalcite Composites

2013

The effect of the compounding method on the morphology and on the properties of poly(lactic acid) (PLA)-hydrotalcite (HT) composites was studied. Moreover, the influence of two different kinds of HT - organically modified (OM-HT) and unmodified (U-HT) - and their concentration was evaluated. The composites were prepared using either a single screw extruder (SSE), a counter rotating twin-screw compounder (TSC) or a corotating twin-screw extruder (TSE). The prepared materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, gel permeation chromatography (GPC) analysis, mechanical and rheological measurements. The results indicated that the best morphology, i.e., particles dimension and dis…

Insights into the Mechanism of Cumene Peroxidation Using Supported Gold and Silver Nanoparticles

2013

Due to the considerable industrial implications, an in-depth study of cumene peroxidation using supported gold and silver nanoparticles was carried out to gain more insight into the mechanism of this reaction. Supported gold nanoparticles were found to efficiently catalyze the decomposition of cumene hydroperoxide with a selectivity of 25% at 80 °C when using gold supported on hydrotalcite (AuNP@HT), and 2-phenyl-2-propanol (i.e., cumyl alcohol) was the main product. Further, silver nanoparticles supported on hydrotalcite (AgNP@HT) converted cumene to cumene hydroperoxide at 80 °C with 80% selectivity. Both benchtop and oxygen-uptake experiments were used to probe the reaction mechanism and…

Heterogeneous catalytic degradation of phenolic substrates: catalysts activity

2009

This review article explored the catalytic degradation of phenol and some phenols derivates by means of advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). Among them, only the heterogeneous catalyzed processes based on catalytic wet peroxide oxidation. catalytic ozonation and catalytic wet oxidation were reviewed. Also selected recent examples about heterogeneous photocatalytic AOPs; will be presented. In details, the present review contains: (i) data concerning catalytic wet peroxide oxidation of phenolic compounds over metal-exchanged zeolites, hydrotalcites, metal-exchanged clays and resins. (ii) Use of cobalt-based catalysts, hydrotalcite-like compounds, active carbons in the catalytic ozonation proc…

UNOS COBRES FLAMENCOS DEL SIGLO XVII EN TALCA (CHILE)

2017

EnglishIn this study we present four oil on copper paintings of Flemish descent, one by Wil lem van Herp (1614-1677), whom we also attribute the remaining ones. Zn,Al hydrotalcites calcined at different temperatures: Preparation, characterization and photocatalytic activity in gas–solid regime

2011

Abstract Layered double hydroxides (LDH) containing zinc and aluminium within the brucite-like layers and carbonate as the interlayer anion have been used as precursors for the preparation of mixed metal oxides by calcination. Zinc oxide and the ZnAl 2 O 4 spinel were formed with different degree of crystallinity depending of two parameters, i.e., the Zn 2+ /Al 3+ molar ratio and the calcination temperature (500–800 °C) of the LDH precursor. A pure spinel phase was obtained to remove ZnO upon a basic post-treatment in NaOH solution of the samples calcined at 800 °C. All the samples were tested for the photodegradation of 2-propanol in gas–solid regime. All the samples resulted active as het…
