Erythropoietin Accelerates the Regeneration of Ureteral Function in a Murine Model of Obstructive Uropathy
2015
Unilateral ureteral obstruction halts ureteral peristalsis, and may cause pain and lead to infection. Ureteral ability to recover after obstruction removal remains unclear. Erythropoietin has protective effects in nonhematopoietic organs and restores peristalsis in hypocontractile intestinal smooth muscle cells. We investigated the role of erythropoietin in ureteral smooth muscle function and its therapeutic value for unilateral ureteral obstruction.Unilateral ureteral obstruction was created for 24, 48 and 72 hours in 22 mice per group using a nontraumatic microclip via laparotomy. We determined erythropoietin, erythropoietin receptor and β-common receptor expression in obstructed and unob…
Effects of pneumatic dilation and myotomy on esophageal function and morphology in patients with achalasia.
2005
Only two treatment modalities–pneumatic dilation and Heller myotomy–promise long-term relief from dysphagia and regurgitation in patients with achalasia. The objective of this study was to determine whether both options differ in their effects on esophageal function, morphology, and improvement in symptoms. Eighty-nine patients diagnosed with achalasia between January 1980 and December 2002 at a single center were enrolled in this study. Sixty-four patients underwent pneumatic dilation and 25 Heller myotomy in combination with an anterior semifundoplication (Dor procedure). Clinical evaluation (Eckardt-Score), esophageal manometry, and barium swallow were performed before and within 6 mont…
The avian oesophageal motor function and its nervous control: some physiological, pharmacological and comparative aspects.
1991
1. This paper deals with the avian oesophageal motor function and it attempts to draw some comparative aspects between neural regulation of the avian and mammalian oesophagus. 2. Different from the mammalian oesophagus, the avian oesophagus, presents at rest electrical activity associated to spontaneous contractions. 3. Swallowing elicits peristaltic contraction, characterized by an inhibitory and an excitatory component. 4. Non-adrenergic, non-cholinergic neurons are responsible for the inhibitory component. 5. Contrarily to what observed in mammals, where the peripheral mechanism are important for the peristaltic sequence, the primary peristaltism of birds seems to be entirely mediated by…
Effects of azadirachtin on the regulation of midgut peristalsis by the stomatogastric nervous system inLocusta migratoria
2000
A single injection of azadirachtin into nymphal and adult locusts results in a decrease of food intake but not in reduced food utilization. Feeding deterrency is correlated with a gradual inhibition of midgut peristalsis. Gut movement is under the control of the stomatogastric nervous system, especially the ingluvial ganglion, as demonstrated in anin vitro system. Serotonin is the most potent peristalsis-stimulating drugin vitro. Concurrent with the cessation of midgut peristalsis after azadirachtin injection, a depletion of the serotoninergic cell bodies in the frontal ganglion can be observed. Midgut preparations which show strongly inhibited contractions due to previous azadirachtin trea…
Experimenteller Nachweis der autochthonen Automatie der Lymphgefässe
1961
It is shown that the peristaltic activity of the isolated mesenterial-lymph vessels of mammals (Cavia porcellus L.) is provoked by two different stimuli: 1. by extension (internal pressure of the vessel: 2–25 cm H2O); 2. by temperature (biokinetic Temperature-Space of 23°; between 22–45°C). Based on these experiments, the autochthonous automaticy of the lymph vessels has been proved.
Evidence for extrinsic control of oesophageal primary peristalsis.
1985
AbstractThe role of both peripheral and central mechanism in the control of primary peristalsis was studied in pigeon cervical oesophagus. The results from the transection of oesophageal muscular wall and of extrinsic nerves suggest that :i) primary peristalsis is programmed centrally.ii) extrinsic motor input is carried in glossopharyngeal nerves and distributed separately at each oesophageal level through intramural neurons.iii) intramural neurons do not seem capable of propagating the peristaltic sequence irrespective of the central control.
Dzimtes stereotipu ietekme uz Talsu 12. klašu skolēnu karjeras izvēli
2016
Prosodisk utveckling hos avancerade finska inlärare av rikssvenska
2017
Prosodiaa on yleisesti pidetty vaikeana osa-alueena vieraan kielen ääntämisen oppimisessa. Opiskelijoilta äänitetyt identtiset lauseet analysoitiin akustisesti kuuden parametrin suhteen. Parametreista tärkeimmät olivat painollisen ja painottoman tavun suhde, puhunnoksen kokonaiskesto…
Alteration of Esophageal Peristalsis by Pentagastrin in Patients with Diffuse Esophageal Spasm
1975
Although it has been shown that gastrin and gastric alkalinization affect the lower esophageal sphincter, in vivo studies have not demonstrated a measurable effect of pentagastrin on esophageal peristalsis. In 9 patients with diffuse esophageal spam and in 10 control subjects esophageal peristalsis was recorded before and after pentagastrin infections. Subcutaneous pentagastrin increased peak amplitude significantly more in patients, 31.2 +/- 8.1 mm Hg (mean +/- S.E.M.), than in controls, 12.1 +/- 5.1 mm Hg (P less than 0.02). Max. duration of contraction waves in patients showed a rise of 11.3 +/- 2.7 sec as compared to controls, 1.9 +/- 0.9 sec (P less than 0.01). The effect of pentagastr…
Reversible esophageal motor dysfunction in botulism
1985
Two cases of botulism with autonomic and neuromuscular system involvement are presented. In both patients, dryness of the mouth and difficulties in swallowing were predominant symptoms. Esophageal manometry revealed a marked decrease in peristaltic amplitude, which was most pronounced in the upper third of the esophagus. These functional abnormalities returned to normal following recovery from the acute disease.
