Experimental studies on uniaxial and echibiaxial tensile tests applied to plastic materials sheets
2019
Abstract The main objective of this paper is to determine the behavior of few plastic materials using two different type of tests. We use classical uniaxial tensile test to determine the most important mechanical and elastic characteristics, such as: yield stress, Young modulus, tangent modulus, maximum stress and maximum strain and to plot engineering stress vs. engineering strain curve for these materials. The second test, that was used in this study, was echibiaxial tensile test on the spherical punch. This test was used to determine maximum breaking force and, of course maximum displacement of specimen on punch direction and others few important characteristics, such as: major and minor…
Modelling Complex Volume Shape Using Ellipsoid: Application to Pore Space Representation
2017
Natural shapes have complex volume forms that are usually difficult to model using simple analytical equations. The complexity of the representation is due to the heterogeneity of the physical environment and the variety of phenomena involved. In this study we consider the representation of the porous media. Thanks to the technological advances in Computed Topography scanners, the acquisition of images of complex shapes becomes possible. However, and unfortunately, the image data is not directly usable for simulation purposes. In this paper, we investigate the modeling of such shapes using a piece wise approximation of image data by ellipsoids. We propose to use a split-merge strategy and a…
Adaptive control of uncertain nonlinear systems with quantized input signal
2018
Abstract This paper proposes new adaptive controllers for uncertain nonlinear systems in the presence of input quantization. The control signal is quantized by a class of sector-bounded quantizers including the uniform quantizer, the logarithmic quantizer and the hysteresis quantizer. To clearly illustrate our approaches, we will start with a class of single-loop nonlinear systems and then extend the results to multi-loop interconnected nonlinear systems. By using backstepping technique, a new adaptive control algorithm is developed by constructing a new compensation method for the effects of the input quantization. A hyperbolic tangent function is introduced in the controller with a new tr…
Tangential Intrahypothalamic Migration of the Mouse Ventral Premamillary Nucleus and Fgf8 Signaling
2021
The tuberal hypothalamic ventral premamillary nucleus (VPM) described in mammals links olfactory and metabolic cues with mating behavior and is involved in the onset of puberty. We offer here descriptive and experimental evidence on a migratory phase in the development of this structure in mice at E12.5–E13.5. Its cells originate at the retromamillary area (RM) and then migrate tangentially rostralward, eschewing the mamillary body, and crossing the molecularly distinct perimamillary band, until they reach a definitive relatively superficial ventral tuberal location. Corroborating recent transcriptomic studies reporting a variety of adult glutamatergic cell types in the VPM, and different p…
Seasonal and spatial dynamics of enteric viruses in wastewater and in riverine and estuarine receiving waters
2018
International audience; Enteric viruses represent a global public health threat and are implicated in numerous foodborne andwaterborne disease outbreaks. Nonetheless, relatively little is known of their fate and stability in the environment. In this studywe used carefully validatedmethods tomonitor enteric viruses, namely adenovirus (AdV), JC polyomavirus (JCV), noroviruses (NoVs), sapovirus (SaV) and hepatitis A and E viruses (HAV and HEV) fromwastewater source to beaches and shellfish beds. Wastewater influent and effluent, surface water, sediment and shellfish samples were collected in the Conwy catchment (North Wales, UK) once a month for one year. High concentrations of AdV and JCV wer…
Comparison of cyclodeviation and duction measurement in Graves' orbitopathy patients using different devices
2011
To compare measurement outcomes of different devices measuring cyclodeviation and ductions in Graves' orbitopathy (GO) patients. Cyclodeviation in GO patients was measured using the Harms tangent screen (HTS), the cycloforometer of Franceschetti, and the synoptometer. Ductions were measured using the modified perimeter, the Goldmann perimeter and the Maddox tangent scale (MTS). In 13 patients, cyclodeviation in primary position, up-, and downgaze was measured with the above-mentioned devices. The mean differences ranged from 0.3º to 3.1º and were smallest between the HTS and the cycloforometer (89% of all measurements within 2º difference). Measurement of abduction, adduction, elevation, an…
[Velocity perception for curved motion].
1996
This study examined the effect of direction change of tangential velocity on speed perception using a dot in curved motion. The PSE values were measured for four standard stimuli of different motion curvature. In Experiment 1, semicircular motion was a comparison stimulus. The result showed that the PSE values increased with increasing motion curvature. This implies that direction change of tangential velocity can affect its speed perception. However, in Experiment 2, the effect of direction change of tangential velocity was not clear when a comparison stimulus was replaced with linear motion. In Experiment 3, the motion curvature as a comparison stimulus was set near the threshold level of…
The validity of the “liminf” formula and a characterization of Asplund spaces
2014
Abstract We show that for a given bornology β on a Banach space X the following “ lim inf ” formula lim inf x ′ ⟶ C x T β ( C ; x ′ ) ⊂ T c ( C ; x ) holds true for every closed set C ⊂ X and any x ∈ C , provided that the space X × X is ∂ β -trusted. Here T β ( C ; x ) and T c ( C ; x ) denote the β-tangent cone and the Clarke tangent cone to C at x. The trustworthiness includes spaces with an equivalent β-differentiable norm or more generally with a Lipschitz β-differentiable bump function. As a consequence, we show that for the Frechet bornology, this “ lim inf ” formula characterizes in fact the Asplund property of X. We use our results to obtain new characterizations of T β -pseudoconve…
Two -methods to generate Bézier surfaces from the boundary
2009
Two methods to generate tensor-product Bezier surface patches from their boundary curves and with tangent conditions along them are presented. The first one is based on the tetraharmonic equation: we show the existence and uniqueness of the solution of @D^4x->=0 with prescribed boundary and adjacent to the boundary control points of a nxn Bezier surface. The second one is based on the nonhomogeneous biharmonic equation @D^2x->=p, where p could be understood as a vectorial load adapted to the C^1-boundary conditions.
