The body size of headstarted and wild juvenile European pond turtles (Emys orbicularis)

Headstarting is a popular conservation technique in which animals are raised under artificial conditions, and then released into natural habitat. The objective of this procedure is to grow animals to a size at which they are less vulnerable to predators. However, there is still little empirical evidence for the long-term effectiveness of the technique. Therefore, we compared body size of juvenile “wild” (= not taken to artificial rearing) and headstarted European pond turtles (Emys orbicularis), from two populations (in central and western Poland). L’impiego della carbossimetilcellulosa come alternativa alla stabilizzazione tartarica a freddo dei vini.

In questo lavoro è stato studiato l’impiego di diverse carbossimetilcellulosa sulla stabilità tartarica di vini, di diversa origine geografica e varietale, attraverso la valutazione della composizione chimico-fisica dei vini addizionati di CMC, prima e dopo la stabilizzazione a freddo. I dati hanno evidenziato come vini bianchi, instabili alle precipitazioni tartariche (caduta della conduttività elevata dopo trattamento a freddo), sono risultati stabili se addizionati di CMC. Fra le CMC impiegate, la CMC G in polvere, preparato commerciale con gomma arabica, e CMC H liquida, hanno mostrato i migliori risultati.

Entrepreneurs (novices vs. experts) and investors: Interaction and rationality dynamics (effectual vs. causal)

The paper studies the mechanisms that govern the interactions between the entrepreneur (novice or expert) and the specific investors of emerging firms (business angels (BAs) and venture-capital firms (VCs)). Combining both literatures on entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial finance, our aim is to understand if the rationalities of these three actors help them or not to interact, and, to study how they influence each other during the firm's growth. In order to do so, we undertake two processual case studies. Selective isomerization of a trans -butanediacetal derivative of tartaric acid with differentiating substituents at C-2 and C-3

Abstract A trans-disubstituted butanediacetal derivative with two different substituents (ester and thioester) – methyl (2R,3R,5R,6R)-3-ethylsulfanylcarbonyl-5,6-dimethoxy-5,6-dimethyl-1,4-dioxane-2-carboxylate, was selectively converted to the cis derivative – methyl (2S,3R,5R,6R)-3-ethylsulfanylcarbonyl-5,6-dimethoxy-5,6-dimethyl-1,4-dioxane-2-carboxylate in high yield on a multigram scale. The product of this reaction offers the possibility for selective modification of one of the substituents, which was demonstrated by Fukuyama reduction of the thioester group.
