Synthesis and Structure of a Potassium Potassiochromate: A Bis-Chromium(II) Molecule Held Together by Near-Square-Planar Potassium−Ligand Bridges

No Cr-Cr bonding is found in a new type of mixed-metal ate complex having two coordinatively unsaturated but sterically saturated bisamido-monoalkyl Cr(II) groups linked via an unusual near-square-planar-coordinated K atom in the moiety of the ate, while the cationic moiety is a separated iris-tmeda solvated second potassium atom.

Isostructural Potassium and Thallium Salts of Sterically Crowded Thio‐ and Selenophenols: A Structural and Computational Study

Because of their similar cationic radii, potassium and thallium(I) compounds are usually regarded as closely related. Homologous molecular species containing either K+ or Tl+ are very rare, however. We have synthesized potassium and thallium salts MEAr* [M, E = K, S (2a); K, Se (2b); Tl, S (3a); Tl, Se (3b); Ar* = 2,6-Trip2C6H3, Trip = 2,4,6-iPr3C6H2] derived from terphenyl-substituted thio- and selenophenols. In the solid-state structures of dimeric 2a, 2b, 3a, and 3b additional metal-ηn–π-arene interactions to the flanking arms of the terphenyl substituents of different hapticity n are observed. Sulfotransferase-mediated mutagenicity of 1-hydroxymethylpyrene and 4H-cyclopenta[def]chrysen-4-ol and its enhancement by chloride anions.

1-Hydroxymethylpyrene (HMP), a primary benzylic alcohol, and 4H-cyclopenta[def]chrysen-4-ol (OH-CPC), a secondary benzylic alcohol, were investigated for mutagenicity in Salmonella typhimurium (reversion of the his- strain TA98) in the presence of various xenobiotic-metabolizing systems. In the direct test, HMP was inactive and OH-CPC was very weakly active. In the presence of NADPH-fortified postmitochondrial fraction from rat liver (S9/NADPH), no activation of OH-CPC was observed, whereas strong mutagenic effects were elicited by HMP. Baeyer—Villiger Oxidation in Supercritical CO2 with Potassium Peroxomonosulfate Supported on Acidic Silica Gel.

Supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) is an efficient reaction medium to perform the Baeyer-Villiger oxidation with hydrated silica-supported potassium peroxomonosulfate (h-SiO2.KHSO5) under flow-through conditions. Hydration modulates the reactivity of the active surface by softening the acidity of the KHSO4 present in the supported reagent. The reaction in scCO2 is much more efficient than in n-hexane under similar conditions, which is attributed to better transport and solvating properties of the supercritical medium with regard to n-hexane.

Isolated in-vitro perfusion of pig hearts obtained from the abattoir: an alternative to animal experiments?

Isolated pig hearts (German farm pigs) were characterized after global in-vivo ischaemia as a potential alternative to in-vivo animal studies. Hearts were harvested from adult farm swine at the abattoir 10.3 +/- 2.1 min after incision of the carotid artery. They were immediately perfused and thereafter stored in ice-cold cardioplegic (St Thomas's) solution. After 38 +/- 3 min, retrograde perfusion was started with oxygenated pig blood (37 degrees C; 5000 U Heparin.l-1; pH 7.38 +/- 0.1; 11 mmol glucose.l-1) at a flow rate of 85 ml.min-1 100 g-1 wet weight (gww-1) for 30 min (n = 10). Pump currents generated by the purified Na+K+-ATPase from kidney on black lipid membranes.

The transport activity of purified Na+K+-ATPase was investigated by measuring the electrical pump current induced on black lipid membranes. Discs containing purified Na+K+-ATPase from pig kidney were attached to planar lipid bilayers in a sandwich-like structure. After the addition of only microM concentrations of an inactive photolabile ATP derivative [P3-1-(2-nitro)phenylethyladenosine 5'-triphosphate, caged ATP] ATP was released after illumination with u.v.-light, which led to a transient current in the system. The aim of this work was to determine the relative impact of water-soluble compounds on the gustatory properties of a goat cheese water-soluble extract (WSE). Using a semisynthetic model mixture (MWSE) previously elaborated in physicochemical and gustatory accordance with the cheese WSE (see part 1, Engel et al. J. Agric. Food Chem. 2000, 48, 4252-4259), omission tests were performed. Imaging synaptic zinc release in living nervous tissue

Zinc enriched neurons have a pool of synaptic vesicles which contain free or loosely-bound zinc ions. The movement of the vesicular zinc ions into the synaptic clefts has been previously studied by microdialysis, fluorescence postmortem staining for zinc and radioactive zinc isotope. In this study the zinc fluorescence probe N-6-metoxy-p-toluensulfonamide quinoline (TSQ) has been applied as a tracer of synaptic release of zinc ions. This fluorochrome permeates cell membranes and when exposed to living brain slices gives rise to a staining pattern similar to that seen with autometallography.
