Characterization of EGF-guided MDA-MB-231 cell chemotaxis in vitro using a physiological and highly sensitive assay system

2018

Chemotactic cell migration is a central mechanism during cancer cell invasion and hence metastasis. In order to mimic in vivo conditions, we used a three-dimensional hydrogel matrix made of collagen I and a stable gradient-generating chemotaxis assay system, which is commercially available (μ-Slide Chemotaxis) to characterize epidermal growth factor (EGF)-induced chemotaxis of the human breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231. Surprisingly, chemotactic effects of EGF on MDA-MB-231 cells could neither be observed in the standard growth medium DMEM/F-12 supplemented with 10% serum nor in starvation medium. In contrast, after adapting the cells to the serum-free growth medium UltraCULTURETM, signif…

LC‐ESI / HRMS analysis of glucosinolates, oxylipins and phenols in Italian rocket salad ( Diplotaxis erucoides subsp. erucoides (L.) DC .) and evalua…

2021

BACKGROUND This study investigated the chemical profile and biological activity of Diplotaxis erucoides subsp. erucoides (L.) DC. (Brassicaceae) collected in Sicily (Italy). RESULTS Liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization and high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-ESI/HRMS) analysis of the ethanol extract revealed the presence of 42 compounds - glucosinolates, hydroxycinnamic acids, flavonoids, and oxylipins. The extract was tested for its antioxidant activity using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic) acid (ABTS), ferric reducing ability power (FRAP), and β-carotene bleaching tests. Promising protection from lipid peroxida…

Phobalysin P (PhlyP, for photobacterial lysin encoded on a plasmid) is a recently described small β-pore forming toxin of Photobacterium damselae subsp. damselae (Pdd). This organism, belonging to the family of Vibrionaceae, is an emerging pathogen of fish and various marine animals, which occasionally causes life-threatening soft tissue infections and septicemia in humans. By using genetically modified Pdd strains, PhlyP was found to be an important virulence factor. More recently, in vitro studies with purified PhlyP elucidated some basic consequences of pore formation. Being the first bacterial small β-pore forming toxin shown to trigger calcium-influx dependent membrane repair, PhlyP ha…

Sistema casual latino: doble dativo y dativo de finalidad

2004

The Latin case system codifies whatever relationships among the c…

Eosinophil-selective mediators in human strongyloidiasis

2006

SUMMARY Strongyloides stercoralis infection is characterized by the production of IgE and eosinophils in peripheral blood. Experimental studies have demonstrated that eosinophils play an important role in protection against Strongyloides stercoralis, but the mechanisms regulating eosinophils are not known. In this study we have focused on analysing the molecules that selectively regulate eosinophil migration, namely eotaxin and interleukin-5 (IL-5), using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in patients with strongyloidiasis. Serum expression of eotaxin and IL-5 were significantly increased in patients compared with the control group. This rise suggests that selective mediators of the eosin…
