A narrative account of a teacher community

This narrative account draws on dialogic approaches to education to critically reflect on teachers’ expressed pedagogic thinking in community. The context for the study is a teacher community in Central Finland comprising teachers from pre-primary to upper secondary contexts. The shared interest of the community is in the foreign-language mediation of education. The data were collected over a period of one and a half years and primarily consisted of teacher-produced notes from community sessions. This paper seeks to address assumptions on the effectiveness of fieldwork as a mode of learning in geography. This is approached from an international perspective, both in review of available evidence, which demonstrates a need for rigorous research into the issue, and in providing preliminary findings of research into the value of fieldwork from universities across three continents. Importance of students’ views and the role of self-esteem in lessons of creative dance in physical education

Abstract The purpose of this study was to capture the student’s views in lessons of creative dance. A qualitative empirical research design was carried out using video-stimulated recall interviews. The participants in this study were 88 children (63 female and 25 male) between the ages of 9 and 11 years (M = 10.5, SD = 1.2) in physical education lessons. A total of 16 teaching units in dance, which took place once a week within a period of 16 weeks were conducted. Of the 88 children, a total of 37 young male and female subjects (M = 10.5 years) were interviewed about their personal views subsequently to the lessons. Abstract Two instructional approaches on comprehension monitoring in English as FL are contrasted. Although using the same materials (elementary science texts), one of them is based on tasks focusing on vocabulary and grammar, and the other one is based on main ideas identification and textual coherence. Vocational education approach: New TEL settings—new prospects for teachers' instructional activities?

This study focuses on vocational education teachers’ instructional activities in a new technology-enhanced learning (TEL) setting. A content analysis is applied to investigate teachers’ and students’ interactions in a 3D game context. The findings illustrate that when teachers’ and students’ interactions are mediated by a game, teachers seem to apply different discussion activities to empower vocational learning than they do in traditional classroom settings. The incorporation of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) will pay off soon with the release of the first labor market new-plan graduates. In this study an initial assessment of the results is done by analyzing whether the curriculum (new-plan degree or old-plan degree) and the use of new teaching methodologies have led to significant differences in academic performance or if, on the contrary, they did not.
