This study was undertaken to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy and time required by first responders to assess the carotid pulse in potentially pulseless patients. We conducted a prospective, randomized study of first responders (n = 206; four different training levels) and were blinded as to the patients' conditions in the cardiac operating rooms of a university hospital. The immediate implant-supported provisional restoration in the partially or totally edentulous patients is a predictable and well-accepted procedure in dentistry. The Glossary of Prosthodontic Terms defines a provisional prosthesis as a prosthesis designed to improve or evaluate esthetics, speech, and occlusal function in a period of time between implant placement and final restoration with a definitive prosthesis. Planning and design should always take place during the pre-surgical phase of treatment and constitute a tool for communication among the members of the team, which in most cases is of a multidisciplinary nature (prosthodontist, surgeon, dental technician, and patient).

Traditionally, the debate on communication value and the contribution of communication professionals to organisational decision-making has been linked to diverging roles (managers, technicians). This chapter introduces an alternative view, based on an exploratory, qualitative study of communication professionals in Finland. It focuses on the diverse ways in which these professionals contribute to organisational decisionmaking. The results show a rich, constantly developing picture of communication practices, which challenges the traditional dichotomy of manager and technician roles. peerReviewed
