Characterization of Sn-Co nanowires grown into alumina template
2009
Nanowires of Sn-Co alloys were grown inside the channels of anodic alumina membrane by potentiostatic deposition. The scanning electron microscope images showed the formation of cylindrical nanowires whose height was increasing with deposition time. The X-ray patterns did not show significant diffraction peaks, suggesting the formation of amorphous phases. The higher content of Co in the nanowires, in comparison to the initial composition of the electrolytic bath, was attributed to a higher rate of Co electrodeposition. These nanowires seem to possess specific features suitable for innovative application in the field of Li-ion batteries due to their dimensional stability and high specific s…
Layered-Expanded Mesostructured Silicas: Generalized Synthesis and Functionalization
2018
Mesostructured layered silicas have been prepared through a surfactant-assisted procedure using neutral alkylamines as templates and starting from atrane complexes as hydrolytic inorganic precursors. By adjusting the synthetic parameters, this kinetically controlled reproducible one-pot method allows for obtaining both pure and functionalized (inorganic or organically) lamellar silica frameworks. These are easily deconstructed and built up again, which provides a simple way for expanding the interlamellar space. The materials present high dispersibility, which results in stable colloidal suspensions.
Control of catalytic properties of ZSM-5 made by fast and template- free synthesis.
1989
Abstract The fast template-free synthesis of ZSM-5 was accomplished in both static and stirred autoclaves employing sodiumwaterglass.silica hydrogel and pyrogenic silicas as silica sources. Highly pure crystalline ZSM-5 was obtained in the sodiumwaterglass reaction system in the stirred autoclaves without seeds within 3 hours. Addition of 2% (w/w) of seeds reduced the reaction time to 2 hours. The catalytic activity and shape selectivity of the H-ZSM-5, tested by the disproportionation of ethylbenzene, was found to be largely controlled by the synthesis parameters and by the posttreatments. The homogeneous aluminum distribution across the crystals achieved by this synthetis route resulted i…
Template-Free Supracolloidal Self-Assembly of Atomically Precise Gold Nanoclusters : From 2D Colloidal Crystals to Spherical Capsids
2016
We report supracolloidal self-assembly of atomically precise and strictly monodisperse gold nanoclusters involving p-mercaptobenzoic acid ligands (Au102-pMBA44) under aqueous conditions into hexagonally packed monolayer-thick two-dimensional facetted colloidal crystals (thickness 2.7 nm) and their bending to closed shells leading to spherical capsids (d ca. 200 nm), as controlled by solvent conditions. The 2D colloidal assembly is driven in template-free manner by the spontaneous patchiness of the pMBA ligands around the Au102-pMBA44 nanoclusters preferably towards equatorial plane, thus promoting inter-nanocluster hydrogen bonds and high packing to planar sheets. More generally, the findin…

Synthesis of huge macrocycles using two calix[4]arenes as templates.
2005
Macrocycles with up to 100 atoms have been synthesised using two calix[4]arenes as templates: first, (3,5-dialkenyloxy)phenyl groups are attached to the wide rim of a calix[4]arene via urea links, then the alkenyl groups are connected via a metathesis reaction using a tetratosylurea calix[4]arene for their correct prearrangement and finally the urea functions are cleaved to detach the newly formed macrocycles.
Reiterative transcription initiation from galP2 promoter of Escherichia coli
2000
The expression of gal operon in Escherichia coli is driven by two promoters, P1 and P2 separated by 5 bp. The transcription initiated from the P2 generates a large amount of abortive transcripts to produce a comparable amount of full-length transcript as P1 in vitro. In this study, we investigated the source of the abortive transcripts by employing a quantitative potassium permanganate footprinting method that determines the extent of open promoter complex formation. The extents of open promoter complex formation at the two gal promoters were about the same during the given reaction time while the amount of transcription initiation determined by in vitro transcription assay showed a conside…
Combinatorial approaches: A new tool to search for highly structured β-hairpin peptides
2002
Here we present a combinatorial approach to evolve a stable β-hairpin fold in a linear peptide. Starting with a de novo -designed linear peptide that shows a β-hairpin structure population of around 30%, we selected four positions to build up a combinatorial library of 20 4 sequences. Deconvolution of the library using circular dichroism reduced such a sequence complexity to 36 defined sequences. Circular dichroism and NMR of these peptides resulted in the identification of two linear 14-aa-long peptides that in plain buffered solutions showed a percentage of β-hairpin structure higher than 70%. Our results show how combinatorial approaches can be used to obtain highly structured peptide s…
Identification of New Templates for the Synthesis of BEA, BEC, and ISV Zeolites Using Molecular Topology and Monte Carlo Techniques
2020
The presence of organic structure directing agents (templates) in the synthesis of zeolites allows the synthesis to be directed, in many cases, toward structures in which there is a large stabilization between the template and the zeolite micropore due to dispersion interactions. Although other factors are also important (temperature, pH, Si/Al ratio, etc.), systems with strong zeolite-template interactions are good candidates for an application of new computational algorithms, for instance those based in molecular topology (MT), that can be used in combination with large databases of organic molecules. Computational design of new templates allows the synthesis of existing and new zeolites …
Bimaxillary simultaneous immediate loading of full-arch restorations : a case series
2017
Aim To describe a bimaxillary simultaneous immediate loading protocol with full-arch implant-supported fixed prostheses. Material and Methods A prospective case series of 8 patients who required full-arch rehabilitation was conducted. The main inclusion criteria were patients with teeth that required extraction. At least 1 molar per arch was temporarily employed to stabilize the surgical template and the provisional prosthesis during intraoral relining. Results Two upper implants failed in 1 patient. Structural fracture was registered in 3 patients, around 3 months after loading. All of them had bruxism. Three esthetic complications were registered: midline deviation, canting of the oclusal…
