2010

The work concerns the “observability problem”—the reconstruction of a dynamic process’s full state from a partially measured state— for nonlinear dynamic systems. The Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) is a widely-used observer for such nonlinear systems. However it suffers from a lack of theoretical justifications and displays poor performance when the estimated state is far from the real state, e.g. due to large perturbations, a poor initial state estimate, etc. . . We propose a solution to these problems, the Adaptive High-Gain (EKF). Observability theory reveals the existence of special representations characterizing nonlinear systems having the observability property. Such representations ar…

2013

This study aims at confronting the ontologies of the imaginary of Sartre, Merleau-Ponty and Grimaldi. Following the path of a critical assessment of Bergsonism, each of these philosophies develops by granting ontological value to the negative, and through a reconsideration of the meaning of temporality. A new approach of negativity emerges from the reflection on the status of the image and further, upon the relationships between real and imaginary, past and present, conscious and subconscious. Merleau-Ponty and Grimaldi thus reject dialectics of being and nothingness in favour of the idea of a negativity thoroughly penetrating being itself; the first one opening the way for a phenomenologic…

1989

Analysis of the development of schooling routes in the course of time. - The authors present an empirical analysis of two fundamental questions in the field of knowledge and action : what are the respective parts : 1) of the primary and secondary school ; 2) of educational and institutional phenomena in the explanation of social differences of scolarity ? They conclude with a methodological thinking about the empirical analysis of educational phenomena which needs to take account of time.

Development of methods for the detection and quantification of spoilage microorganisms in wine : study of growing factors

2016

New practices used to elaborate wine lead to an increase of wine spoilage due to microorganisms. That is why, new technics have to be developed to quantify these microorganisms accurately, quickly and with low costs. The main wine spoilages are due to acetic acid bacteria (AAB) (A. aceti, A. pasteurianus, G. oxydans and Ga. liquefaciens) and Brettanomyces bruxellensis development. AAB transforms ethanol to acetic acid while B. bruxellensis transforms hydroxycinnamic acids to ethyl phenols (EP) (unpleasant odor molecules). In order to detect these wine spoilage microrganisms, flow cytometry coupled to fluorescent in situ hybridization has been assessed. No reproducible results have been deve…

For Gilles Deleuze, effective thinking necessarily implies a forced m…

Behavioral and physiological bases of relaxing and stimulating effects of odors and music

2021

This doctoral thesis examines the psychological and physiological mechanisms as well as the factors involved in the relaxing and stimulating effect (emotional activation) of pleasant odors, building on research work from the music domain. In Studies 1a and 1b, we observed that the modulation of the activation induced by odors influenced temporal information processing by speeding-up or slowing-down the rate of the internal clock pacemaker, similarly to what was previously reported using musicalstimuli. Moreover, prior verbalsuggestion attributing incongruent activation properties to the odors eliminated these effects, highlighting the importance of a priori expectancies on olfactory-induced…
