Use of Non-IT Testers in Software Development

2007

Because of a shortage of IT specialists, many companies which are not involved in software development business are forced to use employees who have minimal or no any knowledge about software development and IT as testers (let's call them non-IT testers). The author of this paper has used years of experience in working with such testers to provide a description of them, looking also at their most typical testing styles and the problems which occur for testers, their colleagues and bosses, and the overall software development processes. Non-IT testers often feel like second-class employees, because they are forced to work in an environment in which they do not have sufficient skills. This pa…

State Model of Service Reliability

2006

We propose a simple formalism for modelling of a service reliability. A service is defined as an ordered set of states of a modelled application. In the model, a certain reliability is assigned to each application state. Reliability of a service is expressed in terms of above partial reliabilities.

New novel idea for Cloud Computing: How can we use Kalman filter in security of Cloud Computing

2012

Cloud is a virtual image about some amount of undefined powers, that is widespread and had unknown power and inexact amount of hardware and software configurations, and because of we have not any information about clouds location and time dimensions and also the amounts of its sources we tell that Cloud Computing. This technology presents lots of abilities and opportunities such as processing power, storage and accessing it from everywhere, supporting, working - team group - with the latest versions of software and etc., by the means of internet. On the other hand, in such a large scale networks we should consider the reliability and powerfulness of such networks in facing with events such …

An Evaluation of the Single-test Tension Infiltrometer Method for determining the Hydraulic Conductivity of Lateral Capillarity Domain Soils

2004

Abstract The transient and the steady-state single-test tension infiltrometer methods are expected to provide poor hydraulic conductivity K0 estimates in soils situated in the lateral capillarity domain. To evaluate the best strategy for conducting a single-test experiment in these soils, infiltration experiments were numerically simulated for a sandy loam and a clay soil by using two initial pressure heads (−1 and −100 m), four pressure heads at the soil surface (from −0·15 m to −0·01 m), and a maximum duration of 4 h (sandy loam soil) and 12 h (clay soil). The most accurate predictions of K0, differing by a factor of between 0·9 and 1·1 from the true value, were obtained in wet conditions…

Design Procedures for Soil-Lime Stabilization for Road and Railway Embankments. Part 2-Experimental Validation

2012

AbstractAs detailed in Part 1, the most common Italian Technical Specifications refer to different design methodologies for design of lime-soil mixtures, some being quite different from those internationally adopted. Therefore, it seemed appropriate to the Authors to compare these methodologies, via a wide experimental program. It is shown that the Italian methodology of the National Road Agency is different not only from those used in Italy, but also from the main international standards. The experimental results highlight that a revision of that methodology is needed in order to bring it into line with what is prescribed by the European standard.

Advances in Laboratory Testing and Modelling of Soils and Shales (ATMSS).

2017

This volume contains the invited keynote and feature lectures, as well as the papers that have been presented at the workshop. The topics of the lectures and papers cover a wide range of theoretical and experimental research, including unsaturated behaviour of soils and shales, multiphysical testing of geomaterials, hydromechanical behaviour of shales and stiff clays, the geomechanical behaviour of the Opalinus Clay shale, advanced laboratory testing for site characterization and in situ applications, and soil–structure interactions.

Physician's mistakes in the interpretation of spirometry

2012

Background. The most recent ATS/ERS recommendations on lung function testing include a definition of airflow obstruction based on lower limit of normal (LLN) of FEV1/FVC and suggest to measure total lung capacity (TLC) in suspected cases of “pseudo-restriction” (normal FEV1/FVC ratio because of concomitant reductions in FEV1 and FVC), that can conceal airflow obstruction if the subject does not exhale long enough. Aims. To evaluate the skill of physicians in the interpretation of spirometry. Methods. A questionnaire focusing on the interpretation of five spirograms was administered to 127 physicians (aged 25-67yrs; 39% pulmonologists, 20% geriatrics). Correlates of spirometric misinterpreta…

Subclinical impairment of lung function is related to mild cardiac dysfunction and manifest heart failure in the general population.

2016

Lung function impairment has previously been related to heart failure, although no overt cardiovascular or structural heart disease is present. The extent to which pulmonary function is related to subclinical left ventricular impairment in the general population remains to be investigated.15010 individuals from the general population (mean age 55±11years, 50.5% men) in the Gutenberg Health Study underwent spirometry, transthoracic echocardiography and biomarker measurement. Forced expiratory volume in 1s (FEV1) and forced vital capacity (FVC) in percent of the predicted value and FEV1/FVC ratio were associated with echocardiographic measures of cardiac structure, systolic and diastolic func…
