High atomic yield bromine-less benzylic bromination

2002

A two-phase mixture (sodium bromide, aqueous hydrogen peroxide/carbon tetrachloride or chloroform) under visible light provides a simple and convenient system for benzylic bromination of toluenes. A high atomic yield for bromine atoms is attained. Substitution of the chlorinated solvents by other more environmentally benign organic solvents has been attempted and good results are obtained for methyl pivalate.

An easy route to 1-germaindenes via a transmetallation zirconiumgermanium reaction

1993

Abstract Several 1-zirconaindenes ( 4 ) have been obtained easily by heating phenylmethylzirconocene with various symmetrical (R  R′  CH 3 , C 2 H 5 , n-C 3 H 7 , Si(CH 3 ) 3 and unsymmetrical (R  CH 3 , R′  Si(CH 3 ) 3 ) alkynes (RCCR′). Under similar experimental conditions, the ynamine, diethylaminotrimethylsilylethyne, led to a regioselective reaction. From the X-ray structure of the zirconaindene product, the trimethylsilyl group was found close to the zirconium atom. Compounds 4 with germanium tetrachloride afford new 1-germaindenes ( 7 ) characterized by 1 H and 13 C NMR and mass spectrometry, in good yield.

Hepatic responses of gene expression in juvenile brown trout (Salmo trutta lacustris) exposed to three model contaminants applied singly and in combi…

2007

Chemical pollution of the aquatic environment is almost always the result of multiple rather than single toxic compounds. The possibility of separating the effects of key risk chemicals from those of others, including their joint effects, is of clear theoretical interest and high technical importance. We addressed this goal using multiple gene expression profiling in the liver of juvenile brown trout (Salmo trutta lacustris) exposed to three model chemicals (cadmium, carbon tetrachloride [CCl4], and pyrene) administered singly, in binary and trinary combinations at low acutely sublethal concentrations, and in the partial dose–response manner. Differentially expressed genes were grouped by c…

Conductance in isodielectric mixtures. I.n-butyronitrile with dioxane, benzene, and carbon tetrachloride

1974

The conductance of tetrabutylammonium tetraphenylboride, picrate, nitrate, and bromide has been measured at 25°C inn-butyronitrile and in mixtures of this solvent with dioxane, benzene, and carbon tetrachloride covering the range of dielectric constants from 10–24.26. For the picrate, nitrate, and bromide, the association constants at a given dielectric constant are independent of the chemical composition of the solvent. The changes of Walden products with solvent composition, however, are different, depending on which other solvent is mixed with the butyronitrile.

Development a mitigation strategy of enniatins in pasta under home-cooking conditions

2016

The effect of pasta cooking on the enniatins (ENs) contents was evaluated in white and whole-grain pasta. The cooking of pasta was performed for 10 min in boiling water. ENs were extracted from raw and cooked pasta by Solid-Liquid extraction with acetonitrile, and from cooking water by Dispersive Liquid–Liquid Micro-Extraction (DLLME) with a mixture of acetonitrile and carbone tetrachloride. Mycotoxin analysis was performed by Liquid Chromatography coupled to Tandem Mass Spectrometry. The effect of pasta cooking has a marked influence on the reduction of ENs levels. Reductions of 98–100% for ENA, 94–95% for ENA1, 14–49% for ENB and 53–65% for ENB1 were achieved after the process. ENs were d…

Chlorination of p-cymene by chlorine in carbon tetrachloride: Model compounds for environmental analyses

1989

p-Cymene was chlorinated by chlorine in CCl4. The products of the chlorination were separated by distillation and purified by preparative gas chromatography. The structures of chlorocompounds were confirmed by means of their NMR and mass spectra. The distillation gave as the main compounds: (2) 2-chloro-, (4) 2,3-dichloro-, (5) 2,5-dichloro-, (6) 2,3,6-trichloro-, (7) 2,3,5,6-tetrachloro-p-cymenes and as by-products: (8) 2,5,7-trichloro-p-cymene, (9) 2,6-dichloro-1-methyl-4-(1-methylethenyl)benzene (cymenene), and (10) 2,3,6-trichloro-1-methyl-4-(1-methylethenyl)benzene (cymenene).

Dialkyl titanium complexes that contain a sulfur-linked bis(phenolato) ligand:

2002

Abstract The sulfur-linked bis(phenol) 2,2′-thiobis(2-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol), tbmpH2, reacted cleanly with titanium tetrachloride to give the orange titanium dichloro complex [Ti(tbmp)Cl2]2 in virtually quantitative yield. Reaction of the dichloro complex [Ti(tbmp)Cl2]2 with methyllithium at low temperature gave the unexpectedly thermally robust, yellow dimethyl complex [Ti(tbmp)Me2]. The reaction of the dichloro complex with benzyl Grignard reagent in pentane afforded the highly crystalline dibenzyl complex [Ti(tbmp)(CH2Ph)2] as a 1,4-dioxane adduct. The single crystal X-ray crystallography revealed a centrosymmetric 1,4-dioxane-bridged molecule that contains two fragments containing s…

Estimation of formamide harmonic and anharmonic modes in the Kohn-Sham limit using the polarization consistent basis sets.

2010

Formamide harmonic and anharmonic frequencies of fundamental vibrations in the gas phase and in several solvents were successfully estimated in the B3LYP Kohn-Sham complete basis set limit (KS CBS). CBS results were obtained by extrapolating a power function (two-parameter formula) to the results calculated with polarization-consistent basis sets. Anharmonic corrections using the second order perturbation treatment (PT2) and hybrid B3LYP functional combined with polarization consistent pc-n (n = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4) and several Pople’s basis sets were analyzed for all fundamental formamide vibrational modes in the gas phase and solution. Solvent effects were modeled within a PCM method. The anhar…

Herstellung von 1,5‐Cyclooctadiin und 1,3,5,7‐Cyclooctatetraen aus 1,5‐Cyclooctadien

1994

Preparation of 1,5-Cyclooctadiyne and 1,3,5,7-Cyclooctatetraene from 1,5-Cyclooctadiene Bromination of 1,5-cyclooctadiene (1) and stepwise dehydro-bromination first with KOtBu and then with KOtBu/18-crown-6 yields 1,5-cyclooctadiyne (5). A prolonged interaction of the base causes a complete transformation to cyclooc-tatetraene (6). Diyne 5 and even more the intermediate enyne 4 are highly reactive dienophiles. The cycloadducts 10–14 formed with 1,3-cyclohexadiene, carbon disulfide, and tetraphenylcyclopentadienone were isolated and characterized. Treatment of 5 with titanium tetrachloride induces a vigorous polymerization.
