Internet addiction, temperament, and the moderator role of family emotional involvement

This study examined the relationship between internet addiction, temperament, and family functioning focusing on the unique and common contribution that temperament and family functioning made to internet addiction. A total of 320 adolescents (164 boys and 156 girls), from 15 to 17 years (M = 16.06, SD = 0.59), completed measures of internet addiction, temperament, and family functioning. Data showed that salience, as the ability of internet to change negatively person’s life, was predicted positively by temperament linked to lack of control and by the perception of low level of familial emotional involvement. Introduction Empirical studies show that belonging to a support group contributes to patient and caretaker empowerment. They also show that support groups significantly help parents and caretakers of ill children reduce stress and better handle the illness. Aim The aim of the study is to expand knowledge of how social media support groups function, and what impact they have on members. Internet Addiction: Starting the Debate on Health and Well-Being of Children Overexposed to Digital Media.

Previous articles published in the European Paediatric Association (EPA) pages have discussed the importance of children's well-being and its role in different areas of children's health, such as well-child care and child-friendly health care. The goal of this commentary is to raise pediatricians' awareness on the risks of children's overexposure to digital media. It is important to protect the psychological and emotional health of children from uncontrolled external influences to preserve their well-being. We also emphasize the importance of alerting parents and tutors to the risks related to the unrefrained use of the Internet.
