Architecture in iron in the city of XIX century Roof structures of theatres and covered markets in Palermo

In post-unification Palermo, components manufactured abroad were usually used for complementary iron structures (greenhouses and skylights, projecting roofs, staircases…), whereas, for more demanding works, more weight was given to the contribution of producers with experience gained in the field of metal construction. Analysis is here carried out on the works of greatest importance, from the roofs of the two major theatres to the roofing of food market structures; the finest technicians were employed and a critical debate was triggered in the city with regard to formal, static and building aspects.

The complex environment of the operating theatre is shared by a group of people having highly different needs: on one side, there is a surgical team whose work may last many hours and, on the other, an anaesthetized patient often subject to liquid infusion. In the context of deinstitutionalization, however, home has increasingly become the primary site of psychiatric suffering. This paper is an attempt at redefining selected plays written by Tadeusz Rittner in the modernist and symbolist convention. In the 1950s, they were evaluated by Zbigniew Raszewski as among the playwright’s lesser achievements. I have analysed three texts: the one-act plays Sąsiadka (“The Neighbour”) and Odwiedziny o zmroku (“A Visit at Dusk”) as well as the play Don Juan. There is no doubt that the author did not avoid stylistic exaggeration in his modernist works, but one can also find some distance from the conventions of the Young Poland period as well as the use of the grotesque, theatrical sham, and the poetics of intimate drama in these plays. Experimental Characterization and Acoustic Correction of a Multipurpose Performance Hall: The Italian Theatre “Cavallino Bianco”

This study presents the retrofit acoustic dq1esign of the Italian theatre “Cavallino Bianco”. In its historical configuration, the hall had a curved roof with a pressed-plant fiber ceiling, which was demolished and replaced with a wooden roof without a false ceiling, leading to an increase in volume and a worsening of the reverberation time. This study proposed the realization of a wave ceiling and the application of sound-absorbing and reflecting panels on the walls, which have already been implemented.
