Proline-Modified Porphyrin Catalysts for Enantioselective Epoxidations: Design, Synthesis, and Reactivity

International audience; The syntheses of various strapped and −picket-fence× chiral porphyrins are described, and their reactivities towards the enantioselective epoxidation of alkenes are reported. Four L-proline residues provide the chiralityfor the various meso-substituted catalysts, which differ by either the spatial arrangement of the stereogenic centers or the nature and length of the straps. The resulting bridged structures possess four amide linkages ineach strap, leading to highly rigid molecules with well-defined geometries whereas the strapped Fe catalysts gave rise to only moderate enantioselectivities, the C2-symmetrical ones being superior to the D2-symmetrical compounds. Conformational Switching of Multi-Responsive Ferrocenyl-Phenol Conjugates

Multifunctional conformational switches based on the ferrocenyl-salicylic acid amide motif with increasing additional complexity at the Fc moiety (R = COOMe, CONHEt, CONHFc; H-2–H-4; Fc = ferrocenyl) have been prepared and their preferred secondary structures in solution have been elucidated by NMR and IR spectroscopy in combination with conformational searches based on DFT calculations. Their distinct conformational responses to deprotonation ([2]––[4]–) and oxidation ([H-2]+·–[H-4]+·) have been revealed by IR, EPR, and UV/Vis spectroscopy as well as by DFT calculations. Total Synthesis of (±)-Scopolamine: Challenges of the Tropane Ring

Scopolamine was synthesized using 6,7-dehydrotropine as a key intermediate. Rhodium-catalyzed [4 + 3] cycloaddition chemistry and a modified Robinson–Schopf reaction were each independently evaluated for their utility in constructing the tropane core. Both synthetic approaches gave comparable overall yields.

Aza and cyanobridged tripodal dinuclear copper(II) complexes: Electrochemical studies and structural evidence for an original azacyanocarbanion

International audience; The reactivity of the mononuclear [Cu(TMPA)(L)] n+ complex (TMPA: tris(2-methylpyridine) amine, L: CH3CN, H2O) towards two different bridging species (tetracyanoethylene, 4,40-bipyridine) was investigated. The dinuclear complex [(mu-4,40-bipy)Cu-II(TMPA)(2)](CF3SO3)(4) (1) was synthesised and analysed by Xray diffraction (XRD). Magnetic studies revealed that this derivative displays very weak antiferromagnetic interactions between the two metal centres (2J = -0.69 cm(-1)). Switching of Slow Magnetic Relaxation Dynamics in Mononuclear Dysprosium(III) Compounds with Charge Density

The symmetry around a Dy ion is recognized to be a crucial parameter dictating magnetization relaxation dynamics. We prepared two similar square-antiprismatic complexes, [Dy(LOMe)2(H2O)2](PF6) (1) and Dy(LOMe)2(NO3) (2), where LOMe = [CpCo{P(O)(O(CH3))2}3], including either two neutral water molecules (1) or an anionic nitrate ligand (2). We demonstrated that in this case relaxation dynamics is dramatically affected by the introduction of a charged ligand, stabilizing the easy axis of magnetization along the nitrate direction. Despite the immense growth in interest in difluoroborate dyes, the nature of the interactions of the boron atom within the N-BF2 -O kernel is not yet fully understood. Herein, a set of real-space bonding indicators is used to quantify the electronic characteristics of the dative N-B bond in difluoroborate derivatives. The atoms-in-molecules (AIM) partitioning scheme is complemented by the electron localizability indicator (ELI-D) approach, and both were applied to experimental and theoretical electron-density distributions (X-ray constrained wavefunction fitting vs. DFT calculations). High-Pressure Behavior of Nickel Sulfate Monohydrate: Isothermal Compressibility, Structural Polymorphism, and Transition Pathway

Single crystals of synthetic nickel sulfate monohydrate, α-NiSO4·H2O (space-group symmetry C2/c at ambient conditions), were subject to high-pressure behavior investigations in a diamond-anvil cell up to 10.8 GPa. By means of subtle spectral changes in Raman spectra recorded at 298 K on isothermal compression, two discontinuities were identified at 2.47(1) and 6.5(5) GPa. Both transitions turn out to be apparently second order in character, as deduced from the continuous evolution of unit-cell volumes determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction. This work concerns the oxalate delivery process that occurs when using (NH4)3[NbO(C2O4)3]·6H2O as a suitable oxalate source in the synthesis of two compounds, [Cu(dmphen)(C2O4)(H2O)] (1) and [{Cu(dmphen)(CH3OH)}2(μ-C2O4)](ClO4)2 (2) (dmphen = 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline). {[Fe{HB(pz)3}(CN)2(μ-CN)]2[{Cu(dmphen)}2(μ-C2O4)]}∙xCH3OH (3) (2.0 ≤ x ≤ 2.4) was obtained by reacting 2 and PPh4[Fe{HB(pz)3}(CN)3]∙H2O [ = tetraphenylphosphonium and = tris(pyrazolyl)borate].
