Selected theories of ageing organisms

2016

Improving Hand Hygiene Behavior Using a Novel Theory-Based Intervention During the COVID-19 Pandemic

2022

Abstract Background Promoting the adoption of personal hygiene behaviors known to reduce the transmission of COVID-19, such as avoiding touching one’s face with unwashed hands, is important for limiting the spread of infections. Purpose We aimed to test the efficacy of a theory-based intervention to promote the avoidance of touching one’s face with unwashed hands to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Methods We tested effects of an intervention employing imagery, persuasive communication, and planning techniques in two pre-registered studies adopting randomized controlled designs in samples of Australian (N = 254; Study 1) and US (N = 245; Study 2) residents. Participants were randomly assigned…

2009

The goal of this study is to analyze and compare aspects of language learning games in the context of Finnish and Hungarian high-school teaching of German as a foreign language (GFL). First, the practices of using games in GFL are investigated. Secondly, the subjective theories of teachers on language learning games are analyzed. Thirdly, the differences between the Finnish and Hungarian contexts are discussed. The data for this study was gathered with a written questionnaire (48 Finnish, 49 Hungarian GFL teachers) and through semi-standardized interviews (8 Finnish, 5 Hungarian GFL teachers). In addition, Hungarian and Finnish national curricula are analyzed. Through triangulation, both qua…

Exploring Teachers' Motivation for Teaching and Professional Development in Ethiopia : Voices from the Field

2015

Teachers’ work, learning, and professional development are central to any effort aiming at improving schools. Consequently, teachers must consider themselves as a lifelong learner, engage in continuous professional learning and apply that learning to improve student learning and achievement. This article explores teachers’ motivation for teaching and professional development in secondary schools in Ethiopia. Data were collected via interviews and focus group discussions from 32 teachers. The analysis of the collected information revealed low salary and the absence of link between performance and reward as major motivational challenges for teachers. The identified motivational challenges wer…

THEORIES OF THE MULTINATIONAL ENTERPRISES – TWO DIFFERENT APPROACHES

2012

Multinational enterprises – as key determinants and results (in the same time) of the globalization process that characterize the economic world nowadays – know a lot of different approaches in the academic literature; this is a consequence of the refinement (in time) of the (firm’s) internationalization strategies and practices – which is determined, at its turn, by the continuous dynamics and challenges of the world economy. By this paper we would like to bring into attention two of these general theoretical frameworks; they were developed by Wladimir Andreff (into his 2003 book: Les multinationals globales), and Mats Forsgren respectively (into his 2008 book: Theories of the Multinationa…

Revised and short versions of the pseudoscientific belief scale

2021

This is the pre-peer reviewed version of the following article: Fasce, A, Avendaño, D, Adrián‐Ventura, J. Revised and short versions of the pseudoscientific belief scale. Appl Cognit Psychol. 2021; 1– 5, which has been published in final form at https://doi.org/10.1002/acp.3811. This article may be used for non-commercial purposes in accordance with Wiley Terms and Conditions for Use of Self-Archived Versions. In this article, we develop the revised and short versions of the pseudoscientific belief scale through two empirical studies (N = 4154). This revision is motivated by the excessive length of the scale, as well as by consistent observations of poor item loadings across several studies…

Zwischen Interpretation und wissenschaftlicher Polemik. Traum und Traumbild im Werk des Arztes Galen

2016

The essay, after an overview of the theories of the dream expressed in medical texts and philosophical reflection in the Greek world, analyzes the references to the dream present in the Galenic corpus, with specific reference to the presence of this motif in the context of polemics with exponents of other medical schools. Hence on one side it is possible find Galen taking up a typically Platonic metaphorical use of onar and oneirottein to indicate, pejoratively, confused thought not founded on logos. On the other side, some passages in the corpus polemize – in the strict sense of the word – with incorrect use of the dream by physicians who were adversaries, Empirics and Methodics above all.…

Miten muuttaa käytäntöjä ihmisen ja luonnon kannalta kestäviksi? : ekososiaalinen sivistys käytäntöarkkitehtuuriteorian valossa

2023

Ratkaisuksi ongelmaan on ehdotettu ekososiaalisen sivistyksen lisäämistä.

In order to exemplify the tension towards integrated models, the work of Stuart Henry and Mark M.: Lanier Essential Criminology (2009) allows us to evaluate the opportunities that arise from the use of a heuristic model that integrates the different dimensions that determine crime.
