They can be revealed by looking at the wood fiber orientation. Abstract The aim of this technical report is to present a preliminary study carried out to define the methodology to be employed for further research on assessing the effect of sweating on infrared thermography and thermal contact sensors after moderate intensity running. This new type of nanocomposites, never obtained by conventional synthesis, can now be produced in a short period (e.g. 15s). Abstract The reactivity in oxygen of several mixed valency ferrite spinels, namely Fe3O4, FeCr2O4, Fe3 − xTixO4 and Fe3 − xMoxO4 was investigated by derivative thermogravimetry (DTG) analysis as a function of the conditions of preparation and grinding. For all these compounds, low temperature preparation or prolonged grinding time enables small particles ( 0.5 μm), it was observed that oxidation was starting at higher temperature and that the defect spinel phases could not be retained during oxidation. Continuous hydrothermal synthesis of nanometric BaZrO3 in supercritical water

Abstract Nanocrystalline barium zirconate (BaZrO 3 ) was synthesized using a hydrothermal synthesis process working in supercritical conditions and in a continuous way. By this method, we succeeded in the continuous and rapid production of nanopowders. As a preliminary work three barium precursors have been investigated: barium hydroxide (Ba(OH) 2 ), barium acetate (Ba(CH 3 COO) 2 ) and barium nitrate (Ba(NO 3 ) 2 ). Two of them (Ba(CH 3 COO) 2 and Ba(NO 3 ) 2 ) led to the pure perovskite phase. Then an experimental design has been conducted in order to determine the influence of the experimental parameters on the crystallinity and the grain size of the final product.

Ion conduction in the KcsA potassium channel analyzed with a minimal kinetic model.

We use a model by Nelson to study the current-voltage and conductance-concentration curves of bacterial potassium channel KcsA without assuming rapid ion translocation. Ion association to the channel filter is rate controlling at low concentrations, but dissociation and transport in the filter can limit conduction at high concentration for ions other than ${\mathrm{K}}^{+}$. The absolute values of the effective rate constants are tentative but the relative changes in these constants needed to qualitatively explain the experiments should be of significance.
The laser ion source trap for highest isobaric selectivity in online exotic isotope production

The improvement in the performance of a conventional laser ion source in the laser ion source and trap (LIST) project is presented, which envisages installation of a repeller electrode and a linear Paul trap/ion guide structure. This approach promises highest isobaric purity and optimum temporal and spatial control of the radioactive ion beam produced at an online isotope separator facility. The functionality of the LIST was explored at the offline test separators of University of Mainz (UMz) and ISOLDE/CERN, using the UMz solid state laser system. A new type of ECR ion source—a gasdynamic ECR ion source—has been recently developed at the Institute of Applied Physics. The main advantages of such device are extremely high ion beam current with a current density up to 600–700 emA/cm2 in combination with low emittance, i.e., normalized RMS emittance below 0.1 π mm mrad. Previous investigations were carried out in pulsed operation with 37.5 or 75 GHz gyrotron radiation with power up to 100 kW at SMIS 37 experimental facility. The present work demonstrates the first experience of operating the gasdynamic ECR ion source in CW mode. In order to improve the performance of the JYFL 14 GHz electron cyclotron resonance ion source (ECRIS) and initiate low energy beam transport (LEBT) upgrade at the University of Jyvaskyla, Department of Physics (JYFL) accelerator laboratory, a new ion beam extraction system has been designed and installed. The development of the new extraction was performed with the ion optical code IBSimu, making it the first ECRIS extraction designed with the code. The measured performance of the new extraction is in good agreement with the simulations.
