Gel combustion synthesis and magnetic properties of CoFe2O4, ZnFe2O4, and MgFe2O4 using 6-aminohexanoic acid as a new fuel

2020

Abstract For the first time, 6-aminohexanoic acid is used as an alternative fuel in the synthesis of the spinel ferrites with compositions CoFe2O4, ZnFe2O4 and MgFe2O4 using gel combustion synthesis with different oxidizer-to-fuel (O/F) ratios. The gel precursors were studied by differential thermal analysis and thermogravimetry (DTA/TG), which showed that the ignition temperature depends on the gel precursor, being around 230 °C, 130 °C and 275 °C for CoFe2O4, ZnFe2O4, and MgFe2O4, respectively. These results showed than the 6-aminohexanoic acid has an ignition temperature lower than the urea and the citric acid when were used in the synthesis of the spinel ferrites by gel combustion. More…

Thermal oxidation of the intermetallic phases Al 8 Mo 3 and AlMo 3

2017

Abstract The thermal oxidation reactions of the intermetallic phases Al8Mo3 and AlMo3 were investigated and analyzed by ex-situ powder-x-ray diffraction (XRD), difference thermal analysis (DTA), thermogravimetry (TGA), and infrared spectroscopy (IR). The initial oxidation reactions in air were found to yield Al2O3 and AlMo3 in the case of Al8Mo3 (Tonset =725 °C), and MoO3 as well as Al8−xMo3 (Tonset =435 °C) for the pure intermetallic phase AlMo3, respectively. Thus, both intermetallic phases are coexisting in an equilibrium within a temperature range of 300 °C under oxidizing conditions. The formation of β-Al2(MoO4)3 followed the second oxidizing process of the respective minority componen…

Spray-Drying Performance and Thermal Stability of L-Ascorbic Acid Microencapsulated with Sodium Alginate and Gum Arabic

2019

[EN] The potential of sodium alginate (ALG) and gum arabic (GA) as wall polymers for Lascorbic acid (AA) encapsulation as a tool for their preservation against the thermo-oxidative degradation was investigated. The influence of such polymers used as wall material on the AAcontent, size, encapsulation efficiency, encapsulation yield and thermo-oxidative stability were evaluated. The AA-microparticles were obtained using the spray-drying technique. An experimental Taguchi design was employed to assess the influence of the variables in the encapsulation process. The microparticles morphology and size distribution were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and laser diffraction. The the…

Adsorption equilibria of water vapor on cork.

2010

International audience; We report here for the first time a complete thermodynamic study of water vapor adsorption on crude cork powder and plate. Adsorption−desorption isotherms were accurately measured by thermogravimetry at 283, 298, and 313 K in a large range of relative pressure. Adsorption enthalpies were determined by calorimetry as a function of loading. Adsorption−desorption isotherms exhibit a hysteresis due to the swelling of the material. The influence of the presence of lenticels on the adsorption properties of cork is found to be negligible. A detailed analysis and interpretation of adsorption data allow proposal of an adsorption mechanism in two steps. (i) First, water adsorb…

Influence de la symétrie et de la taille de la molécule adsorbée sur le processus d'adsorption des composés éthyléniques sur une zéolithe de topologi…

2005

This manuscript lies within the scope of the understanding of the stepped isotherm observed during adsorption, on MFI zeolites, of some organic compounds which have a similar size to that of the pore opening of zeolite. During this work, the process of adsorption of ethylene and tetramethylethylene is initially studied by gravimetry and then by in situ infrared spectroscopy. This last technique enables to follow simultaneously the modifications of the adsorbent and the adsorbate. The analysis of these data lets suppose that the step in adsorption isotherm can be explained by taking account simultaneously of the symmetry and the size of the admolecule. In addition to the infrared bands chara…

"Reactivity of Cu3Si of different genesis towards copper(I) chloride"

2000

Abstract A comparative study of the reactivity between copper(I) chloride and three types of Cu 3 Si obtained in a molten medium (Cu 3 Si-Ref) and from mechanical activation following an annealing process (Cu 3 Si-M2AP) or a self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (Cu 3 Si-MASHS) was performed by thermogravimetry under vacuum using non-isothermal and isothermal methods of kinetic measurement. It was established that for the three Cu 3 Si/CuCl systems, the acceleration and decay stages in the temperature range 145–215°C are very closely approximated by an equation of the Prout–Tompkins type where an autocatalytic process was proposed. The lower apparent activation energy obtained for the…

Selective Antimicrobial Effects of Curcumin@Halloysite Nanoformulation: A Caenorhabditis elegans Study

2019

Alterations in the normal gastrointestinal microbial community caused by unhealthy diet, environmental factors, and antibiotic overuse may severely affect human health and well-being. Novel antimicrobial drug formulations targeting pathogenic microflora while not affecting or even supporting symbiotic microflora are urgently needed. Here we report fabrication of a novel antimicrobial nanocontainer based on halloysite nanotubes loaded with curcumin and protected with a dextrin outer layer (HNTs+Curc/DX) and its effective use to suppress the overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria in Caenorhabditis elegans nematodes. Nanocontainers have been obtained using vacuum-facilitated loading of hydrophobic …

ZrO2SiO2 mixed oxides: surface aspects, photophysical properties and photoreactivity for 4-nitrophenol oxidation in aqueous phase

1996

Abstract Mixed oxides of ZrO2 and SiO2 were synthesized by a sol-gel technique by using zirconyl chloride and commercial silica gel as starting materials. The paper reports some surface features of the powders and the photoreactivity results obtained in the oxidation of 4-nitrophenol in aqueous suspensions of powdered photocatalyst. The optical characterization of the suspension was also performed by measuring the photon flows reflected and absorbed by the reacting system. The photoactivity exhibited by the ZrO2SiO2 samples is very scarce especially if compared with that shown by a TiO2 sample tested at equal experimental conditions. The low photoreactivity can be justified on the basis of…

Influence of the pH on the synthesis of reduced graphene oxide under hydrothermal conditions

2012

Here we describe the important role played by the pH on the morphology and structure of the reduced graphite oxide (rGO) samples obtained by hydrothermal treatment of the previously prepared GO. The nature of the resulting samples has been studied on the basis of a complete battery of experimental techniques.
