Eel ATPase activity as biomarker of thiobencarb exposure
2003
Abstract European eels ( Anguilla anguilla ) were exposed to a sublethal thiobencarb concentration of 0.22 mg/L in a flow-through system for 96 h. Mg 2+ and Na + –K + adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) activities were evaluated in gill and muscle tissues at 2, 12, 24, 48, 72, and 96 h of thiobencarb exposure. Gill ATPase activities were rapidly inhibited from 2 h of contact onward. Highest inhibition was registered for Na + , K + -ATPase (85%) from 2 to 12 h. Both Mg 2+ and total ATPase were inhibited (>73%) during the first hours of toxicant exposure. At the end of the exposure period (96 h) ATPase activities were still different from those of the controls (>50%). Significant inhibition was…

Acute exercise activates nuclear factor (NF)-kappaB signaling pathway in rat skeletal muscle.
2004
Two studies were performed to investigate the effects of an acute bout of physical exercise on the nuclear protein kappaB (NF-kappaB) signaling pathway in rat skeletal muscle. In Study 1, a group of rats (n=6) was run on the treadmill at 25 m/min, 5% grade, for 1 h or until exhaustion (Ex), and compared with a second group (n=6) injected with two doses of pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC, 100 mg/kg, i.p.) 24 and 1 h prior to the acute exercise bout. Three additional groups of rats (n=6) were injected with either 8 mg/kg (i.p.) of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), 1 mmol/kg (i.p.) t-butylhydroperoxide (tBHP), or saline (C) and killed at resting condition. Ex rats showed higher levels of NF-kappaB b…
Determination of organic and inorganic mercury species in water and sediment samples by HPLC on-line coupled with ICP-MS.
2009
This paper describes a preconcentration method for Hg(2+) and MeHg(+) in water samples using sodium diethyldithiocarbamate immobilized in polyurethane foam (PU-NaDDC) and an extraction method for several mercury species in sediment samples, including MeHg(+), EtHg(+) and PhHg(+), which is simple, rapid, and uses a single organic solvent. Separation and measurement were done by high-performance liquid chromatography on-line with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (HPLC/ICP-MS). Initially, the test of recovery was applied using procedures compatible with HPLC. Under the optimum extraction conditions, recoveries of 96.7, 96.3 and 97.3% were obtained for MeHg(+), EtHg(+), and PhHg(+),…
Synthesis of Both Ionic Species of Ammonium Dithiocarbamate Derived Cholic Acid Moieties
2011
The reaction of 3-aminopropylamide of cholic acid with CS2 produced a bile acid derivative of dithiocarbamic acid which further formed an ammonium salt with another molecule of 3-aminopropylamide of cholic acid. The cationic 3-ammonium propylamide of cholic acid did not react further with CS2 and the formed salt was stable in the reaction mixture, even when excess CS2 was used. When the reaction was carried out in the presence of aqueous sodium hydroxide, only the bile acid derivative of sodium dithiocarbamate was formed. The dithiocarbamate derivatives were characterized by 1H- and 13C-NMR spectroscopy and ESI-TOF mass spectrometry.
In murine 3T3 fibroblasts, different second messenger pathways resulting in the induction of NO synthase II (iNOS) converge in the activation of tran…
1996
Transcription factor NF-kappaB is essential for the induction of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) II (iNOS) by bacterial lipopolysaccharide in murine macrophages (Xie, Q. W., Kashiwabara, Y., and Nathan, C. (1994) J. Biol. Chem. 269, 4705-4708). In 3T3 fibroblasts, agents other than cytokines are efficacious inducers of NOS II expression. In addition to cytokines such as interferon-gamma or tumor necrosis factor-alpha, protein kinase C-stimulating agents such as tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate, or cyclic AMP-elevating agents such as forskolin and 8-bromo-cAMP markedly increased NOS II mRNA (measured by Sl nuclease and RNase protection analyses), NOS II protein (determined by Western blotting), a…
Coupling of electrochemical, electrogravimetric and surface analysis techniques to study dithiocarbamate/bronze interactions in chloride media
2018
International audience; Interaction between ammonium pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate (PDTC) and bronze in 30 g L-1 NaCl was investigated at several concentrations between 0.1 and 10 mM by means of various electrochemical and spectroscopic techniques. Electrochemical measurements revealed a fast adsorption process of PDTC on Cu and Pb and the formation of a thick insulating and protective film with a high surface coverage. At high concentrations, PDTC prevents oxides formation. Surface analyses confirm PDTC adsorption on bronze mainly via interaction between sulphur atoms and Cu sites to form Cu I-PDTC complex.
Laboratory investigation into the development of resistance of Daphnia magna to the herbicide molinate.
2003
Daphnia magna (F0 generation) was exposed to different sublethal molinate concentrations (0, 3.77, 4.71, 6.28, 9.42, and 18.85 mg/L) during 21 days. Chronic toxicity tests, using the same herbicide concentrations, were also carried out during 21 days using neonates of F1 first brood (F1-1st) and F1 third brood (F1-3rd) offspring generations from the parentals (F0) preexposed to the herbicide. Finally, offspring (from F1-1st and F1-3rd broods) were transferred to herbicide-free medium during a 21-day recovery period. The alga Nannochloris oculata (5 x 10(5) cells/mL) was used as food in all the experiments. The effect of molinate on survival, reproduction, and growth was monitored for the se…
