Summary ― The work presents the results of the bio-archaeological analyzes carried out on human skeletal remains found in fourteen burials of Medieval chronology at the Archaeological Park of Valle dei Templi in Agrigentum (Sicily). The aim of the work was the acquisition of the information necessary for the reconstruction of the biological profile of each individual throught the determination of sex the estimate of the biological age at death the estimate of height and the evaluation of pathologies and markers of occupational stress through current anthropological diagnostic methodologies and techniques. Althought the poor state of conservation of some individuals has not allowed their whole anthropological characterization the investigations have highlighted the heterogeneity relating to the age groups and have allowed us to ascertain the presence of pathological alterations in subjects of mature age sometimes of unknown etiology such as DISH (Diffuse Idiopathic Hyperostosis). The sample size is not representative of the entire population but subsequent insights will provide a better understanding of the population dynamics of Medieval Agrigentum.Settore BIO/08 - Antropologia

Hydrophobic treatment is one of the most important interventions usually carried out for the conservation of stone artefacts and monuments. The study here reported aims to answer a general question about how two polymers confer different protective performance. Two fluorinated-based polymer formulates applied on samples of Cusa’s stone confer a different level of water repellence and water vapour permeability. The discovery and preservation of the Great Inscription of Gortyna in Crete by Italian researchers in the late nineteenth century. and the first decades of the twentieth century. was an important cultural and scientific recognition for the young Italian nation. In the past the island of Crete had been tied to the Republic of Venice and this report also favored sending in Crete the young epigraphist F. Halbherr who among considerable vicissitudes came to together to the epigraphist german E. Fabricius the inclusion of the famous ancient city of Gortyna. The inscription among the oldest and most comprehensive so far known throughout Europe the rules contained on the family's legacy in general and the rights and duties of some of the people of the Minoan civilization (480-450 BC). The inscription was carved on blocks organic limestone a restored ancient building which later in Roman times was turned into odeon. The Laws of Gortyn were engraved on the remains of the wall forming the passageway in front of the steps of the odeon. The essay traces the events that led to the discovery and subsequent storage made by Halbherr especially with the help of archaeologist L. Pernier and finally with the help of architect E. Stefani who designed a modern cover on the top of the ambulatory of the segments containing the inscription. This coverage was made to perform during the First World War on the basis of the Italian project from the Greek Government in order to protect the membership from possible war damage but especially from vandalism. The roof brick clay of the Laws of Gortyna still serves its function and ensures the use of the monument bearing witness to the preservation of Italian culture in Greece and more generally in the world. But in Sicily in the remains of the Villa del Casale in Piazza Armerina (Enna) its elegant protection (built in 1957) is representative of a whole period of culture of the Italian restoration is removed and replaced because it has not been able to make a ongoing maintenance is due. A simple timestamping data acquisition system for ToF-ERDA

A new data acquisition system, ToF-DAQ, has been developed for a ToF-ERDA telescope and other ToF-E and ToF-ToF measurement systems. ToF-DAQ combines an analogue electronics front-end to asynchronous time stamped data acquisition by means of a FPGA device. Coincidences are sought solely in software based on the timestamps. Timestamping offers more options for data analysis as coincidence events can be built also in offline analysis. The system utilises a National Instruments R-series FPGA device and a Windows PC as a host computer. An introduction to the three essays included in this section. The article highlights the right to know whether Chopin was gay and contextualizes this inquiry in a very long and pervasive historiographical tradition, essentially twohundred years long, dedicated to examine Chopin sexual orientation, on the one hand, and on the other the more recent tradition of queering western classical music composers. The main point is not to demonstrate categorically that Chopin was ?gay? (a relative, modern identity marker in any case) but rather to highlight the discourses that have presented him as unequivocally heterosexual.

This manuscript tackles the study of vegetation pattern dynamics driven by inertial effects and secondary seed dispersal. To achieve this goal, an hyperbolic extension of the classical parabolic Klausmeier model of vegetation, generally used to predict the formation of banded vegetation along the slopes of semiarid environments, has been here considered together with an additional advective term mimicking the downslope motion of seeds. Human Reaction Times: Linking Individual and Collective Behaviour Through Physics Modeling

An individual’s reaction time data to visual stimuli have usually been represented in Experimental Psychology by means of an ex-Gaussian function. In most previous works, researchers have mainly aimed at finding a meaning for the parameters of the ex-Gaussian function which are known to correlate with cognitive disorders.
