Past, present and future of 68Ge/68Ga generators.
2013
(68)Ga represents one of the very early radionuclides applied to positron emission tomography (PET) imaging at a time when even the wording PET itself was not established. Today it faces a renaissance in terms of new (68)Ge/(68)Ga radionuclide generators, sophisticated (68)Ga radiopharmaceuticals, and state-of-the-art clincial diagnoses via positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT). Thanks to the pioneering achievement of radiochemists in Obninsk, Russia, a new type of (68)Ge/(68)Ga generators became commercially available in the first years of the 21st century. Generator eluates based on hydrochloric acid provided "cationic" (68)Ga instead of "inert" (68)Ga-complexes, openi…
À la recherche des maillages communaux d'antan. Présentation du projet ANR COMMUNES et de quelques résultats préliminaires
2020
The COMMUNES project aims: 1) to produce the first H-GIS in the world providing annualised boundary data for all French municipalities from the Revolution to the present day. Each spatial unit will include population data and metrics of access to networks of transport; 2) to develop a multimodal model of transport to allow the dynamic analysis of the relationship between economic and demographic changes and accessibility from the end of the 18th century to the present day; 3) to represent and analyse on a very fine scale some key demographic and socio-economic phenomena. Our method for reconstructing historic administrative boundaries combines the study of historical and cartographic source…
International validation of the revised European Organisation for Research and treatment of cancer head and neck cancer module, the EORTC QLQ-HN43
2019
Background: We validated the new European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Head and Neck Module (EORTC QLQ-HN43). Methods: We enrolled 812 patients with head and neck cancer from 18 countries. Group 1 completed the questionnaire before therapy, and 3 and 6 months later. In group 2 (survivors), we determined test–retest reliability using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's Alpha, the scale structure with confirmatory factor analysis, and discriminant validity with known-group comparisons. Results: Cronbach's alpha was >0.70 in 10 of the 12 multi-item scales. All standardized factor loadings exceeded…
A GIS-Based Methodology for Evaluating the Increase in Multimodal Transport between Bicycle and Rail Transport Systems. A Case Study in Palermo
2021
Background: In a world where every municipality is pursuing the goals of more sustainable mobility, bicycles play a fundamental role in getting rid of private cars and travelling by an eco-friendly mode of transport. Additionally, private and shared bikes can be used as a feeder transit system, solving the problem of the first- and last-mile trips. Thanks to GIS (Geographic Information System) software, it is possible to evaluate the effectiveness of such a sustainable means of transport in future users’ modal choice. Methods: Running an accessibility analysis of cycling and rail transport services, the potential mobility demand attracted by these services and the possible multimodality bet…
Communicating Medical Information Online: The Case of Adolescent Health Websites
2020
In recent times, our understanding and practice of public health has been increasingly guided by technological advances generally based on governmental decisions (Green et al. 2009). Not only does the growth of a public system for protecting health hinge upon scientific discovery and dissemination of medical knowledge, but also the World Wide Web has considerably changed the health communication environment. This paper considers the online health information addressed to adolescents. Given that young people have difficulty accessing traditional health services, in theory, the Internet might offer them a more confidential and convenient access to an unprecedented level of information about a…

Wave dynamics and turbulence in multimode optical systems
2021
The subject of this thesis essentially focuses on the experimental and theoretical study of optical turbulence in different types of nonlinear media. The first part of the manuscript is devoted to the study of thermalization and condensation of optical waves during their propagation in graded-index multimode fibers. The analysis based on the wave turbulence theory reveals that the disorder inherent to light propagation in an optical fiber induces a significant acceleration of the process of optical thermalization, which can clarify the mechanism of certain regimes of spatial beam cleaning recently reported in the literature. We show experimentally that the optical field relaxes during its p…
Demonstrating the Applicability of PAINT to Computationally Expensive Real-life Multiobjective Optimization
2011
We demonstrate the applicability of a new PAINT method to speed up iterations of interactive methods in multiobjective optimization. As our test case, we solve a computationally expensive non-linear, five-objective problem of designing and operating a wastewater treatment plant. The PAINT method interpolates between a given set of Pareto optimal outcomes and constructs a computationally inexpensive mixed integer linear surrogate problem for the original problem. We develop an IND-NIMBUS R PAINT module to combine the interactive NIMBUS method and the PAINT method and to find a preferred solution to the original problem. With the PAINT method, the solution process with the NIMBUS method take …
Summer aggregation of common eagle ray, Myliobatis aquila (Chondrichthyes: Myliobatidae), in the Marine Protected Area of the Egadi Islands (southwes…
2021
Author(s): Grancagnolo, Desiree; Arculeo, Marco | Abstract: We report for the first time in Italian waters a periodic and frequent presence of a summer aggregation of common eagle ray Myliobatis aquila in the island of Marettimo (southwestern Tyrrhenian Sea), which is part of the Marine Protected Area of the Egadi Islands. These aggregation could be related to different phenomena such as reproduction, feeding or simply as a transit zone.
NQR/NMR and Mössbauer spectroscopy of sulfides: potential and versatility
2013
Nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear gamma-resonance (NGR or Mossbauer Effect) methods are generally described as highly sensitive tools in studies of local electronic structure and symmetry in solid-state materials. This is due to high informativity in electronic structure investigations, high resolution in phase-structural diagnostics (down to nano-scale), possibility to study polycrystalline and complex compounds, and to the non-destructive character of these methods. As applied to Earth sciences, both NQR/NMR and Mossbauer spectroscopy methods contribute to mineralogical material science and mineral physics. Another important aspect is the fac…
