Scalable Creation of Long-Lived Multipartite Entanglement.

2017

We demonstrate the deterministic generation of multipartite entanglement based on scalable methods. Four qubits are encoded in Ca+40, stored in a microstructured segmented Paul trap. These qubits are sequentially entangled by laser-driven pairwise gate operations. Between these, the qubit register is dynamically reconfigured via ion shuttling operations, where ion crystals are separated and merged, and ions are moved in and out of a fixed laser interaction zone. A sequence consisting of three pairwise entangling gates yields a four-ion Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state |ψ=(1/2)(|0000+|1111), and full quantum state tomography reveals a state fidelity of 94.4(3)%. We analyze the decoherence o…

Geometrical Modeling of Non-Stationary Polarimetric Vehicular Radio Channels

2019

This paper presents a geometry-based statistical model (GBSM) of polarimetric wideband multipath radio channels for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications. The proposed model captures the effects of depolarization caused by multipath propagation, and it also accounts for the non-stationary characteristics of wideband V2V channels. This is a novel feature, because the existing polarimetric channel models are built on the assumption that the channel is a wide-sense stationary random process. In the modeling framework described in this paper, the channel depolarization function is given by a linear transformation in the form of a simple rotation matrix. This linear transformation is transpare…

Spectrogram analysis of multipath fading channels

2015

The analysis of the Doppler power spectral density (PSD) of measured and simulated data is an important topic in the area of mobile radio channel modelling. In this paper, we estimate the Doppler PSD of multipath fading channels by using the concept of the spectrogram. The spectrogram is a spectral representation that gives insight into how the distribution of the spectral density of a signal changes over time. The multipath fading channel is modelled by a sum-of-cisoids (SOC) process. A closed-form solution is presented for the spectrogram and the corresponding time-dependent autocorrelation function (ACF). The closed-form solutions disclose several unwanted effects that come with the limi…

A non-stationary multipath fading channel model incorporating the effect of velocity variations of the mobile station

2014

A standard assumption in mobile fading channel modelling is that the mobile station (MS) moves along a straight line with constant speed. In practice, this assumption is violated in most propagation scenarios. For the development of more realistic channel models, it is therefore important to relax this restriction by allowing the MS to change its velocity. In this paper, we study the effect of velocity changes on the statistical properties of multipath fading channels. Expressions will be derived for the local autocorrelation function (ACF), the Wigner-Ville spectrum, the average Doppler shift, and the Doppler spread. Our findings show that a variation of the speed and/or the direction of t…

Performance evaluation of sum-of-cisoids Rice/Rayleigh fading channel simulators with respect to the bit error probability

2014

Sum-of-cisoids (SOC) processes provide an important framework for the modeling and simulation of multipath fading channels. In this paper, we analyze the performance of SOC Rice/Rayleigh narrowband fading channel simulators with respect to the bit error probability (BEP) of quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) and differential phase shift keying (DPSK) systems with both coherent and noncoherent demodulation. For the BEP of coherent QPSK and DPSK, exact analytical expressions are derived, which provide insight into the influence of the number of propagation paths and the path gains on the system performance. It will be shown that at least 10 multipath components are required to guarantee tha…

Study of transmission parameters under controlled multipath environment using Rasp Pi3

2018

The evaluation of QoS in mobile multipath environments is an interesting topic in modern communications. The use of Raspberry Pi as a low cost microcomputer board developed in the United Kingdom by the Raspberry Pi Foundation can be helpful in onsite deployments. The Pi3 model has integrated WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity and also 4 USB ports to expand the device with all kinds of peripheral. Under the premise of offering the power of a computer at low prices, this device is one of the most affordable ways to have a particularly efficient and dynamic hardware accessible at a low price to develop a Wireless Sensor Netwok (WSN). The use of the Raspberry Pi3 permits the development of a power…

Cryogenic Particle Accumulation In ATRAP And The First Antihydrogen Production Within A Magnetic Gradient Trap For Neutral Antimatter

2008

ATRAP has made many important improvements since CERN's Antiproton Decelerator (AD) was restarted in 2006. These include substantial increases in the number of positrons (e+) and antiprotons (Pbars) used to make antihydrogen (Hbar) atoms, a new technique for loading electrons (e−) that are used to cool Pbars and e+, implementation of a completely new, larger and more robust apparatus in our second experimental zone and the inclusion of a quadrupole Ioffe trap intended to trap the coldest Hbar atoms produced. Using this new apparatus we have produced large numbers of Hbar atoms within a Penning trap that is located within this quadrupole Ioffe trap using a new technique which shows promise f…

Antihydrogen production within a Penning-Ioffe trap.

2008

Slow antihydrogen (H) is produced within a Penning trap that is located within a quadrupole Ioffe trap, the latter intended to ultimately confine extremely cold, ground-state H[over ] atoms. Observed H[over ] atoms in this configuration resolve a debate about whether positrons and antiprotons can be brought together to form atoms within the divergent magnetic fields of a quadrupole Ioffe trap. The number of detected H atoms actually increases when a 400 mK Ioffe trap is turned on.

Antiproton confinement in a Penning-Ioffe trap for antihydrogen.

2007

Antiprotons ((p) over bar) remain confined in a Penning trap, in sufficient numbers to form antihydrogen ((H) over bar) atoms via charge exchange, when the radial field of a quadrupole Ioffe trap is added. This first demonstration with (p) over bar suggests that quadrupole Ioffe traps can be superimposed upon (p) over bar and e(+) traps to attempt the capture of (H) over bar atoms as they form, contrary to conclusions of previous analyses.

Electron-cooled accumulation of 4 × 109positrons for production and storage of antihydrogen atoms

2016

Four billion positrons (e+) are accumulated in a Penning–Ioffe trap apparatus at 1.2 K and <6 × 10−17 Torr. This is the largest number of positrons ever held in a Penning trap. The e+ are cooled by collisions with trapped electrons (e−) in this first demonstration of using e− for efficient loading of e+ into a Penning trap. The combined low temperature and vacuum pressure provide an environment suitable for antihydrogen () production, and long antimatter storage times, sufficient for high-precision tests of antimatter gravity and of CPT.
