Assessment of no-reflow phenomenon by myocardial blush grade and pulsed wave tissue doppler imaging in patients with acute coronary syndrome

Background: No-reflow phenomenon is a complication of myocardial revascularization and it is associated with a worse prognosis. Materials and Methods: A prospective study was carried out enrolling patients with acute myocardial infarction (64 patients, 49 male and 15 female, median age 64.9 ± 10.61 years), both STEMI and NSTEMI, who underwent myocardial revascularization with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Bilateral buccal space lipoma: A rare case presentation

Background The lipoma of the oral cavity is a relatively rare pathology, characterized by overgrowth of the mature adipocytes. Buccal fat pad lipomas usually interfere with the esthetics and the function of the face. Case Report A sixteen-year-old patient reported slow-growing swelling, which started two years ago. Clinical examination revealed two bilateral masses in the soft tissue. MRI imaging revealed a characteristic image of bilateral lipomas connected to the buccal fat pad. Besides visceral obesity and white adipose tissue (WAT) function, the most recent studies point to a major metabolic role of brown adipose tissue (BAT) in energy metabolism. The Role of Adipose Tissue and Adipokines in Obesity-Related Inflammatory Diseases

Obesity is an energy-rich condition associated with overnutrition, which impairs systemic metabolic homeostasis and elicits stress. It also activates an inflammatory process in metabolically active sites, such as white adipose tissue, liver, and immune cells. As consequence, increased circulating levels of proinflammatory cytokines, hormone-like molecules, and other inflammatory markers are induced. This determines a chronic active inflammatory condition, associated with the development of the obesity-related inflammatory diseases. This paper describes the role of adipose tissue and the biological effects of many adipokines in these diseases.

The L-glutamate transporters GLAST (EAAT1) and GLT-1 (EAAT2): expression and regulation in rat lactating mammary gland.

The Na(+)-dependent L-glutamate transporters GLAST (EAAT1) and GLT-1 (EAAT2), were expressed in rat lactating mammary gland, but EAAC1 (EAAT3) was not. GLT-1 expression in rat lactating mammary gland was constant in all the physiological situations studied; however, the GLAST expression is under tight regulation. Fasting for 24 h decreased the GLAST expression which returned to control values after refeeding. Weaning for 24 h produced a decrease in GLAST expression through a mechanism independent of prolactin deficiency. Resuckling for 6 h returned the expression of this transporter to control values.
