Titanium Complexes of Chelating, Dianionic O,S,O‐Bisphenolato Ligands: Syntheses, Characterisation, and Catalytic Activity

2005

Titanium complexes based on 2,2'-thiobis[4-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)phenolato] (tbop) are prepared by reaction of TiCl 4 or Ti(NMe 2 ) 4 with the parent biphenol. Three new complexes are reported: [Ti 2 (μ-tbop-κ 3 O,S,O)(μ-tbop-κ 2 O,O)-(tbop-κ 3 O,S,O)Cl 2 ] (1).2CH 3 CN, [Ti 2 (μ-tbop-κ 3 O,S,O) 2 Cl 4 ] (2) and [Ti(tbop-κ 3 O,S,O) 2 ] (3). Substitution of the chlorides in 1 and 2 by 2,6-diisopropylphenolato and imido (NtBu) ligands generates the new compounds [Ti 2 (μ-tbop-κ 3 O,S,O) 2 -Cl 2 (dipp) 2 ] (4).Et 2 O and [Ti 2 (μ-tbop-κ 3 O,S,O) 2 (NtBu) 2 -(NH 2 tBu) 2 ] (5), respectively. Treatment of 5 with crude Me 3 -SiCl, containing Me 3 SiOH, produces [Ti(tbop-κ 3 O,S,O)Cl(O-SiMe 3 …

Adhesion and adaptive response of osteoblastlike cells (SAOS-2) grown on dfferent ti-6al-4v surfaces.

2004

Osteoblastic-like cells (SAOS-2) were seeded on three differently treated surfaces of Ti- 6Al-4V (T1: not treated; T2: chemically treated; T3: electrochemically treated). After 6h, the cells grown on T1 and T2 surfaces showed a typical poligonal morphology, they were strongly adherent to the surface and after 24h-48h they spread and formed a confluent monolayer. On the contrary, cells seeded on T3 showed heterogeneous morphology, decreased adhesion, loss of thin cellular expansions, and showed cellular shrinkage and apoptotic blebbing; only after 48h they were able to attach and form a monolayer after 4 days of seeding. Cell proliferation was significantly lower on T3 than T1 and T2 surface…

Electron and Energy Transfer Mechanisms: The Double Nature of TiO2 Heterogeneous Photocatalysis

2021

Photocatalytic chemical transformations in the presence of irradiated TiO2 are generally considered in terms of interfacial electron transfer. However, more elusive energy-transfer-driven reactions have been also hypothesized to occur, mainly on the basis of the indirect evidence of detected reaction products whose existence could not be justified simply by electron transfer. Unlike in homogeneous and colloidal systems, where energy transfer mechanisms have been investigated deeply for several organic syntheses, understanding of similar processes in heterogeneous systems is at only a nascent level. However, this gap of knowledge can be filled by considering the important achievements of syn…

Influence of the metallurgy and the microstructure on the strength of titanium-steel laser welded assemblies

2021

The dissimilar laser welding of titanium alloys with stainless steel is of high interest for different industrial applications. However, the joining of these materials by direct fusion is hardly achievable because of the presence of brittle intermetallic phases in the Ti-Fe system that produce spontaneous cracking of the welds. The scientific aim of this thesis is to identify a reliable criterion that allows identifying the possible conditions allowing obtaining a durable dissimilar titanium/steel joints, in terms of mechanical strength in service conditions. The determination of this criterion is necessary for the comprehension of the relation between the microstructure of the melted zone …

Titania Photocatalysts for Selective Oxidations in Water

2011

Heterogeneous photocatalysis by polycrystalline semiconductor oxides is an unconventional technology that has been mainly applied for the degradation of organic and inorganic pollutants in both the vapor and liquid phase. The application of photocatalysis in synthetic routes has also been researched in recent years, demonstrating its viability as an alternative route in organic chemistry. This work illustrates the main findings in the application of heterogeneous photocatalysis to the oxidation of organic compounds dissolved in water, free of any organic co-solvent. Two main aspects of the oxidative process have been studied: the first one is the partial oxidation of various mono-substitute…

[The effect of instrumentation on original apical foramen shape using steel vs niti rotatory: computerized analysis]

2002

BACKGROUND. A fundamental requirement to obtain a correct endodontic preparation depends on the respect, during cleaning and shaping, of the original morphology of the apical foramen, (AF), so that the filling material will form a complete seal. METHODS. In our previous studies, in order to verify if this presumption was respected using rotary NiTi instruments with cutting tip, we instrumented extracted teeth characterised by a different degree of root curvatures. Using a standardized system to replace the sample, the original shape of the apical foramen of each tooth was recorded using a computerised technique and then compared to the shape after instrumentation. The data showed difference…

Efficacity of SMAT and laser shock-peening process for enhancement of titanium alloys high temperature oxidation resistance

2017

The aim of this thesis is to determine the influence of two mechanical surface treatments, the shot- peening performed with several type of balls (WC, alumina and glass) and the laser shock peening, on the high temperature oxidation resistance of two titanium alloys : alpha alloy with commercially purity (Grade 1) and aeronautical beta metastable alloy (TIMETAL-21S).After different treatments, the pieces are oxidized with different conditions: of time (between 5 hours to study the firsts times of oxidation and 3000 hours to compare with a classical aeronautical test), of temperature (600°C to 700°C) and atmosphere (dry air or oxygen). The pieces are analyzed before and after oxidation exposu…

N-heterocylic and mesoionic carbene complexes of the group 4 metals

2020

International audience; N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes of group 4 metals have been far less studied than their late metal counterparts. However, the field has been explored for over 25 years, and there is now a much clearer understanding of the metal-NHC interaction. Some exceptionally robust and active catalysts have been reported for a number of group 4 metal-catalyzed reactions, and recent developments suggest that NHCs are well-suited to enable the isolation of otherwise difficult to tame species, such as low-valent complexes.

Adaptive response of osteoblasts grown on a titanium surface: morphology, cell proliferation and stress protein synthesis.

2005

Titanium is one of the most widely used biomaterials in orthopaedic, dental and trauma surgery. Superficial adhesion and cell proliferation represent the first steps of cell-biomaterial interactions. The efficacy of this early phase influences the subsequent ability to differentiate, and hence the knowledge of these cell activities is important for studying and improving the biocompatibility of biomaterials. The aim of this study was to test the adaptive ability of osteoblastic cells grown on titanium surfaces, including morphologic, proliferative and adaptative aspects.
