Comparative study of several programs used in the potentiometric evaluation of equilibrium constants including an error sensitivity analysis

Abstract The programs MINIQUAD, MINIPOT, SUPERQUAD and PHCONST are applied to the evaluation of the protonation constants of several hypothetical polyprotic substances using simulated titrations, and the precision and accuracy of the results are discussed and compared. When statistical weights are used the results are very similar, the accuracy being better with PHCONST. Error sensitivity analysis was used as a means of establishing the influence of a systematic error of an experimental variable on the accuracy of the determination. Resorcinarene Podand with Amine-Functionalized Side Arms – Synthesis, Structure, and Binding Properties of a Neutral Anion Receptor

The synthesis and structure of a neutral resorcinarene host bearing four amine-functionalized side arms is described. The anion binding properties were investigated in solution by 1H NMR spectroscopic titration and diffusion experiments and in the gas phase by mass spectrometric studies. It was observed that in solution 1:2 (host/guest) complexes were formed between the resorcinarene host and the basic fluoride and acetate anions, whereas in the gas phase 1:1 complexes with other anions (Cl–, HCOO–, NO3–, and BF4–) were detected additionally. Dicopper(II) Metallacyclophanes with N,N'-2,6-Pyridinebis(oxamate): Solution Study, Synthesis, Crystal Structures, and Magnetic Properties.

The complexing ability of copper(II) in solution by the ligand N,N'-2,6-pyridinebis(oxamic acid) (H4mpyba, H4L) was determined through potentiometric and UV-vis spectroscopy at 25 °C and 0.15 M NaCl. The logarithms of the equilibrium constants for its copper(II) complexes according to the eqs 2H2L + 2Cu ⇆ [Cu2(H2L)2], 2H2L + 2Cu ⇆ [Cu2(H2L) (HL)] + H, 2H2L + 2Cu ⇆ [Cu2(HL)2] + 2H, 2H2L + 2Cu ⇆ [Cu2(HL)(L)] + 3H, and 2H2L + 2Cu ⇆ [Cu2L2] + 4H were 12.02(7), 8.04(5), 1.26(6), -7.51(6), and -16.36(6), respectively. An efficient acetylation of dextran using in situ activated acetic anhydride with iodine

A facile, efficient, cost-effective and solvent-free acetylation method has been developed for the acetylation of dextran. Dextran acetates were successfully synthesized using different molar ratios of acetic anhydride in the presence of iodine as a catalyst without the use of any solvent. The reactions were realized at 50?C for 3 h under stirring and nitrogen. This efficient method yielded highly pure and organosoluble dextran esters. The reaction appears highly effective for obtaining higher degrees of substitution (DS) with great efficiency. Under solvent-free conditions, dextran triacetates were efficiently synthesized. Straightforward preparation of highly loaded MWCNT-polyamine hybrids and their application in catalysis

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were easily and efficiently functionalised with highly cross-linked polyamines. The radical polymerisation of two bis-vinylimidazolium salts in the presence of pristine MWCNTs and azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as a radical initiator led to the formation of materials with a high functionalisation degree. Spectral and structural insights of copper reduction pathways in the system of CuX2-R2S (X=Cl, Br; R=allyl, n-propyl)

Abstract We have explored the behaviour of Cu(II)/Cu(I) redox couple in the system CuX2-R2S, X = Cl, Br; R = allyl, n-propyl, under anhydrous and anaerobic conditions, thus simulating the reduction half cycle in the copper catalyzed oxidation of thioethers. In doing so, the Cl−Br substitution was critical for tuning the reduction potentials, while the replacement of propyl group by allyl group supported the trapping of oxidation by-product, halogen molecules. Atypical titration curves for GaAl12Keggin-ions explained by a joint experimental and simulation approach

Although they have been widely used as models for oxide surfaces, the deprotonation behaviors of the Keggin-ions (MeAl127+) and typical oxide surfaces are very different. On Keggin-ions, the deprotonation occurs over a very narrow pH range at odds with the broad charging curve of larger oxide surfaces. Depending on the Me concentration, the deprotonation curve levels off sooner (high Me concentration) or later (for low Me concentration). The Effect of Calcium on the Cohesive Strength and Flexural Properties of Low-Methoxyl Pectin Biopolymers.

Abstract: Pectin binds the mesothelial glycocalyx of visceral organs, suggesting its potential role as a mesothelial sealant. To assess the mechanical properties of pectin films, we compared pectin films with a less than 50% degree of methyl esterification (low-methoxyl pectin, LMP) to films with greater than 50% methyl esterification (high-methoxyl pectin, HMP). LMP and HMP polymers were prepared by step-wise dissolution and high-shear mixing. Both LMP and HMP films demonstrated a comparable clear appearance. Synthesis and Characterisation of Chiral Triazole-Based Halogen-Bond Donors: Halogen Bonds in the Solid State and in Solution

A general platform for the synthesis of various chiral halogen-bond (XB) donors based on the triazole core and the characterisation of factors that influence the strength of the halogen bond in the solid state and in solution are reported. The characterisation of XB donors in the solid state by X-ray crystallography and in solution by 1H NMR titration can be used to aid the design of new XB donors. We describe the first example of a XB between iodotriazoles and thioureas in solution. In addition, the enantiodiscrimination of acceptors in solution through halogen-bond participation is described.
