Granulomas en dermatopatología: principales entidades. Parte I

This series of 2 articles on dermatopathologic diagnoses reviews conditions in which granulomas form. Part 1 clarifies concepts, discusses the presentation of different types of granulomas and giant cells, and considers a large variety of noninfectious diseases. Some granulomatous diseases have a metabolic origin, as in necrobiosis lipoidica. Others, such as granulomatous mycosis fungoides, are related to lymphomas. Still others, such as rosacea, are so common that dermatologists see them nearly daily in clinical practice.

Follow Up On CD8-Depleted Donor-Lymphocyte Infusions After T-Cell Depleted Allogeneic Hemopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation

We applied prophylactic CD8-depleted (CD8depl) donor lymphocyte infusions (DLI) in the setting of T-cell depleted reduced-intensity allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in a phase I/II trial. T-cell depletion was carried out by the use of high-dose Alemtuzumab (100 mg or 60 mg for unrelated or sibling donor transplantation, respectively). We have demonstrated the feasibility of this approach after having treated 23 patients in this protocol (Meyer et al. Blood 2007). From 2004 to 2011, 134 patients with different hematologic diseases were included and followed for a median observation time of 1.5 years after transplantation (range, 1.5-9 years). Background Global development goals increasingly rely on country-specific estimates for benchmarking a nation's progress. To meet this need, the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2016 estimated global, regional, national, and, for selected locations, subnational cause-specific mortality beginning in the year 1980. Here we report an update to that study, making use of newly available data and improved methods. GBD 2017 provides a comprehensive assessment of cause-specific mortality for 282 causes in 195 countries and territories from 1980 to 2017. The OAT trial and its angiographic substudy TOSCA-2, along with a number of published commentaries, represents examples of over-interpretation of clinical study results. A study that achieved no statistically significant result for any of the study endpoints can only claim to have proven that their null hypothesis cannot be rejected. The lack of power due to a reduction of patient numbers by one third, and an unexpected low event rate, makes it not unlikely that another trial would be able to disprove the null hypothesis. Imaging photoplethysmography for assessment of chronic pain patients

In present pilot study application of multi-spectral imaging photoplethysmography for assessment of chronic pain patients during topical skin heating test was proposed. Photoplethysmography signal was recorded at 420nm, 530nm and 810nm illumination from the skin and corresponding perfusion indexes and perfusion maps were calculated. The novel parameter-PPGflare index was introduced and compared in neuropathic patients and healthy volunteers. Preliminary results suggest that neuropathic patients exhibited significantly lower PPGflare index, and that local heating substantially change PPG waveform at heat exposed skin region. Advanced sensor device for shape analysis of the tissue- reflected mean single period photoplethysmography (SPPPG) signals has been designed and clinically tested. The SPPPG signal shape reveals individual features of the patient's cardio-vascular state. Clinical studies of several patient groups (e.g. diabetes mellitus, atherosclerosis obliterans, Raynaud's syndrome) made possible to specify components of the SPPPG signal that are sensitive to the corresponding organic or functional pathologies.
