Effect of conductivity of hole injection layer on the performance of a blue light emitting solution processable OLED

2005

The performance of blue emitting OLED devices, using a polyspiro as blue light emitting polymer, were studied as a function of the conductivity of a novel hybrid hole injection material. The hole injection material is based on a polyarylamine using a molecular magnet as oxidant. The charge density and the luminance of the devices changed considerably with increasing conductivity of the hole injection layer. The change in device performance can be attributed to a change from a hole limited device to a balanced charge carrier device and eventually to an electron limited device. The performance of the optimized device configuration is significantly improved with respect to a device making use …

3D defect engineering in polymer opals

2006

The possibility to create defined structures inside a synthetic opal is a key step towards applications in optics, where control of the propagation of light inside a photonic crystal is necessary. Here we report different methods for realizing defined embedded defects in opaline structures. Monodisperse colloids are synthesized by surfactant free emulsion polymerization of the acid labile monomer t-butyl-methacrylate (tBMA). The PtBMA colloids can be filled with sensitizer and photo acid generator and it is possible to crystallize them into photosensitive polymer opals. One method for the introduction of defects is a multilayer build-up of photo-labile (filled with photo acid generator) and…

Effect of Corona Poling and Thermo Cycling Sequence on NLO Properties of The Guest-Host System

2008

In the case of doped polymer system SHG efficiency is proportional to the concentration and orientation degree of NLO-active molecules. Unfortunately, corona poling realised at elevated temperatures causes concentration decrease of NLO-active molecules due to crystallization. On the basis of our studies of the film optical images, refractive index and SHG measurements of the dimethylaminobenzylidene 1,3-indandione and PMMA guest-host system, we have demonstrated that optical quality is improved and second order NLO efficiency is higher, when the external poling electric field is switched on from the very beginning of the sample heating process.

Efficient photovoltaic and electroluminescent perovskite devices.

2015

Planar diode structures employing hybrid organic–inorganic methylammonium lead iodide perovskites lead to multifunctional devices exhibiting both a high photovoltaic efficiency and good electroluminescence. The electroluminescence strongly improves at higher current density applied using a pulsed driving method.

New Figure of Merit for Tailoring Optimal Structure of the Second Order NLO Chromophore for Guest-Host Polymers

2008

Reliability to forecast SHG efficiency using two sets of non linear optical (NLO) chromophore figures of merit (FOM) was tested. One of them predicts that SHG efficiency d 33 of the poled guest-host polymer is proportional to ground state dipole ∼ μg, another to ∼ 1/μg. Correlation of maximal achieved second order NLO efficiency of the PMMA based systems containing eight dimethylaminobenzylidene-1, 3-indandione (DMABI) related chromophores with proposed FOM have been analyzed. The best correlations were obtained with second set of FOM, especially if high dipole moment (μg > 7D) chromophores are included in analysis.

Visible polarized light transmission spectroscopy of the electro-optic switching behaviour of surface stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal cells

1991

Abstract We present in this paper an experimental and theoretical modelling study of the switching characteristics and electro-optic behaviour of chevron surface stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal cells with planar (low pre-tilt) and non-planar (high pre-tilt) surface conditions. The visible polarized light transmission spectra were taken of the cells with glass plates coated with films of either rubbed polymer or obliquely evaporated silicon monoxide (SiO) at various applied voltages and in various stages of switching and compared with the theoretical values calculated numerically based on our director-polarization structure model for the aforementioned cells. The results provide evid…

Perimeter leakage current in polymer light emitting diodes

2009

Observation of leakage current paths through the device perimeter in standard poly(phenylene vinylene)-based light-emitting devices is reported. Perimeter leakage currents govern the diode performance in reverse and low positive bias and exhibit an ohmic character. Current density correlates with the perimeter-to-area ratio thus indicating that leakage currents are mainly confined on polymer regions in the vicinity of metallic contact limits (device perimeter). © 2008 Elsevier B.V. Solvatochromy and electro-optical study of new fluorine-containing chromophores

1998

technology requires tailored functional materials which fulfill the demands for optimal operation parameters, reliability andprocessability. Organic chromophores and polymers which contain covalently bound chromophores are promising materialclasses which can satisfy a broad spectrum of demands on functional materials for photonics, and they are, therefore, favorites for the development of new photonic devices. However, it is almost impossible to satisfy all physico-chemical andtechnological requirements simultaneously with a polymer consisting of only one type of functional unit. The developmentof a series of different building blocks which allow to cover the whole range of physico-chemical …

Accidental Contamination of Substrates and Polymer Films by Organic Quantum Emitters.

2019

[Image: see text] We report the observation of ubiquitous contamination of dielectric substrates and poly(methyl methacrylate) matrices by organic molecules with optical transitions in the visible spectral range. Contamination sites of individual solvent-related fluorophores in thin films of poly(methyl methacrylate) constitute fluorescence hotspots with quantum emission statistics and quantum yields approaching 30% at cryogenic temperatures. Our findings not only resolve prevalent puzzles in the assignment of spectral features to various nanoemitters on bare dielectric substrates or in polymer matrices but also identify the means for the simple and cost-efficient realization of single-phot…

Dielectric and plasmonic waveguides based on quantum dots embedded in polymers

2013
