Thermal sensor based on a polymer nanofilm

2016

In this work, we have developed a thermal sensor based on poly(3,4 ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) nanofilms as thermoelectric material. The PEDOT nanofilms have been synthesized by the electrochemical polymerization method. The thicknesses of the films were around 120 nm. The doping level of PEDOT was controlled by chemical reduction using hydrazine. The achieved Seebeck coeficient is 40 uV/K. A PEDOT nanofilm was integrated into an electronic circuit that amplifies the voltage originated from the Seebeck effect. The temperature increment produced by a fingerprint touching the film is enough to switch on a light emitting diode. Peer Reviewed

The neural basis of sublexical speech and corresponding nonspeech processing: a combined EEG-MEG study.

2014

Abstract We addressed the neural organization of speech versus nonspeech sound processing by investigating preattentive cortical auditory processing of changes in five features of a consonant–vowel syllable (consonant, vowel, sound duration, frequency, and intensity) and their acoustically matched nonspeech counterparts in a simultaneous EEG–MEG recording of mismatch negativity (MMN/MMNm). Overall, speech–sound processing was enhanced compared to nonspeech sound processing. This effect was strongest for changes which affect word meaning (consonant, vowel, and vowel duration) in the left and for the vowel identity change in the right hemisphere also. Furthermore, in the right hemisphere, spe…

Environment assisted photoconversion of luminescent surface defects in SiO 2 nanoparticles

2017

Abstract Time-resolved photoluminescence investigation on SiO 2 nanoparticles was carried out in controlled atmosphere, with the aim to discern the effects induced on the typical blue luminescence band by high power UV Nd:YAG laser photons (4.66 eV) and by some selected molecular species of the air (O 2 , N 2 , CO 2 , H 2 O). These factors ultimately determine both the brightness and photostability of the emitting defect, so as to limit the unique and attracting potentialities offered by this system in many applicative fields. Here it is highlighted that the effects due to photons and molecules, singularly considered, are not additive, the radiation being more dramatic in reducing the emiss…

Probing of nanocontacts inside a transmission electron microscope

2007

In the past twenty years, powerful tools such as atomic force microscopy have made it possible to accurately investigate the phenomena of friction and wear, down to the nanometer scale. Readers of this book will become familiar with the concepts and techniques of nanotribology, explained by an international team of scientists and engineers, actively involved and with long experience in this field. Edited by two pioneers in the field, 'Fundamentals of Frictions and Wear at the Nanoscale' is suitable both as first introduction to this fascinating subject, and also as a reference for researchers wishing to improve their knowledge of nanotribology and to keep up with the latest results in this …

Dopant Contrast in Semiconductors as Interpretation Challenge at Imaging by Electrons

2007

Mechanisms responsible for the contrast between differently doped areas in semiconductors, which is observed in electron micrographs, is discussed as regards the key factors determining the sign and magnitude of the contrast. Experimental data obtained by means of the scanning electron microscope (SEM), scanning low energy electron microscope and photoelectron emission microscope are reviewed together with hints following from them for compilation of a model of the contrast mechanism.

Thermal-, pressure- and light-induced spin-crossover behviour in the two-dimensional Hofman-like coordination polymer [Fe(3-Clpy)2Pd(CN)4]

2013

The thermal spin-crossover behaviour, photoexcitation and subsequent relaxation, as well as the pressure-induced spincrossover behaviour at 298 K are discussed for the non-porous two-dimensional Hofmann-like coordination polymer [Fe(3-Clpy)(2)Pd(CN)(4)] (1). The title compound undergoes a two-step, cooperative thermal-induced SCO with critical temperatures T-c1(down arrow) = 159.6 K and T-c1(up arrow) = 164.5 K for the first step and T-c2(down arrow) = 141.4 K and T-c2(up arrow) = 148.4 K for the second step. Irradiation of the low-spin state with green light (514 nm) at 10 K induced the photoexcitation of around 60% of the iron(II) centres to the high-spin state (LIESST effect). The subseq…

Segregation of copper oxide on calcium copper titanate surface induced by Graphene Oxide for Water splitting applications

2020

Abstract Photoelectrochemical cells (PEC) are promising devices for hydrogen production via sunlight energy. One of the important challenges in this area is to design photoactive electrodes able to absorb visible light. A good photoelectrochemical behavior depends on the presence of surface active sites to photogenerate current at the lower possible potential for water splitting. Recent investigations in this field are focusing on perovskite materials such as CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) as visible light active electrode due its outstanding structure in which CCTO encloses in its structure a visible light absorbance component (CuO). The presence CuO on the material surface is mainly responsible for t…

Grafting and characterization of dodecylphosphonic acid on copper: Macro-tribological behavior and surface properties

2013

International audience; Thin film of n-dodecylphosphonic acid (DDPA) was prepared on a copper oxide substrate via a molecular self-assembly process. The composition, structure, organization, surface energy, morphology, and electrochemical behavior of the DDPA filmwere characterized bymeans of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic analysis (XPS), polarization modulation infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (PM-IRRAS), contact angle measurement v(CAM), microscopic observations, and electrochemistry. The friction behavior of the DDPA film adsorbed on copper oxide substrate sliding against a Si3N4 ball was examined on a linear reciprocating tribological tester. Worn surfaces of the DDPA film…
