2016

Kauppinen, A. 2016. CrossFit Suomen jälkimodernissa liikuntakulttuurissa. CrossFitin rantautuminen, organisoituminen ja laji liikuntamuotona. Liikuntakasvatuksen laitos, Jyväskylän yliopisto. Liikunnan yhteiskuntatieteiden pro gradu -tutkielma, s.85, 2 liitettä. Suomalainen liikuntakulttuuri elää jatkuvassa muutoksen tilassa. Uusi sukupolvi muokkaa perinteisiä liikuntalajeja uudelleen vastaamaan paremmin nykyisiä tarpeitaan. Samalla virtuaalimaailman kehitys tuo kaukaisemmatkin liikuntavaikutteet lähelle. Liikunnalle asetetaan yhä kokonaisvaltaisempia merkityksiä ihmisten arjessa ja yhteiskunnassa. Uusia liikuntalajeja tutkimalla saadaan yhteiskunnallisesti arvokasta tietoa liikunnan muuttu…

Regular Horizontal Patterning on Colloidal Crystals Produced by Vertical Deposition

2009

Colloidal particles have proved to be a suitable precursor to the formation of nanoscaled materials. More explicitly, they are a suitable way to create photonic band gap materials in 3D. Several methods have been developed to assemble colloidal multilayer systems, and have yielded various levels of success. The vertical deposition method has shown itself to be one of the best in terms of time, control of the final product, crystal size and homogeneity. Despite this, the resulting crystals often present point defects, dislocations, cracks and polycrystallinity, as well as a horizontal modulation of film thickness. These defects compromise the possible utilities of the crystals. The study of …

Carrier Transport in GaAs Nanowires Using Surface Acoustic Waves

2012

ABSTRACTThe oscillating piezoelectric field of a surface acoustic wave (SAW) is employed to transport photoexcited electrons and holes in GaAs nanowires (NWs) transferred to a SAW beam line on a LiNbO3 crystal. We show that carriers generated in the NW by a focused light spot can be acoustically transported to a second location, where they recombine emitting short light pulses. The results presented here demonstrate the high-frequency manipulation of carriers in NWs without the use of electrical contacts, which opens new perspectives for applications in opto-electronic devices operating at GHz frequencies.

Detailed study of defects in thin fullerite films

2012

The structural investigations of fullerite films were performed using high-resolution electron microscopy, electron diffraction and electron energy loss spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. In particular defects such as dislocations, stacking faults and twins were studied in details. It was shown that fullerite films could be characterized by a face-centered cubic (f.c.c.) structure with lattice parameter a = 1.416 nm. They are distinguished for their rich polytypic structure that is caused by breaking of alteration of closely packed planes of (111) type. The quantitative method based on information theory using the “run-length encoding” algorithm was suggested to evaluate the…

Dynamic segregation during ferrite oxidation revealed by XPS

2002

Dynamic segregation phenomena were revealed by XPS during the oxidation of some ferrites (Fe 2.5 Ti 0.5 O 4 , Fe 2.5 Ni 0.5 O 4 , Fe 2 CrO 4 and FeCr 2 O 4 ). This kind of phenomenon induces, at a low temperature (below room temperature), drastic changes in the cationic composition of the most external layers. Dynamic segregation is a function of the cationic composition, the oxidation capability and the morphology of these ferrites. Although dynamic segregation seems to be a quite frequent phenomenon that often can be observed during ferrite oxidation, there are materials in existence where it does not appear, such as molybdenum ferrite.

Photoelectron spectrum of poly(methyl-n-propylsilane): a valence band theoretical interpretation

1996

Abstract The results of a theoretical investigation of the photoelectron spectrum of poly(methyl-n-propylsilane) are reported. The simulation of the UPS spectrum has been obtained from band structure calculations performed using the valence effective Hamiltonian method (VEH). The theoretical spectrum is fully consistent with the experimental UPS spectrum, and an excellent quantitative agreement is observed when the energies of the main peaks of both spectra are compared. A complete analysis of the contributions to the main peaks, together with a detailed interpretation of all the photoemission bands observed in the experimental spectrum have also been performed.

Cylindrical Cuvette Light Refraction Measurements Technology to Analyse Biomedical Liquids

2015

Compact device of high sensitivity for measurement of the refractive indices for both stationary and flowing liquids has been developed. This device can be used to analyse a variety of biomedical liquids: urine, serum protein. The refractive index (RI) is determined by measuring the deviation of a laser beam passing through a cylindrical cuvette containing the test liquid. In order to significantly improve the resolution and stability of RI measurements, the repeated reflections and refractions of the light beam travelling through the cylindrical cuvette are employed.

A DC and small signal AC model for organic thin film transistors including contact effects and non quasi static regime

2017

Abstract We present a compact model for the DC and small signal AC analysis of Organic Thin Film Transistors (OTFTs). The DC part of the model assumes that the electrical current injected in the OTFT is limited by the presence of a metal/organic semiconductor junction that, at source, acts as a reverse biased Schottky junction. By including this junction, modeled as a reverse biased gated diode at source, the DC model is able to reproduce the scaling of the electrical characteristics even for short channel devices. The small signal AC part of the model uses a transmission line approach in order to compute the impedances of the channel and parasitic regions of the device. The overlap capacit…

Structure and Deformations of Pd−Ni Core−Shell Nanoparticles

2005

International audience; Homogeneous collections of Pd−Ni core−shell nanoparticles have been prepared by decomposition of metal−organic compounds and studied by several electron microscopy techniques: transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), energy-filtered microscopy (EFTEM), and by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The physical and chemical properties of the Pd shell are supposed to depend on its electronic properties, which are influenced by the presence of the Ni core and by the deformation in the Pd lattice. Here, the interfacial structure of Pd/Ni and the lattice deformations in t…
