The cell wall of Saccharomyces cerevisiae represents some 30% of the total weight of the cell and is made up of β-glucans, mannose-containing glycoproteins (mannoproteins), and small amounts of chitin (9, 15). The mannoproteins can be divided into three groups according to the linkages that bind them to the structure of the cell wall: (i) noncovalently bound, (ii) covalently bound to the structural glucan, and (iii) disulfide bound to other proteins that are themselves covalently bound to the structural glucan of the cell wall (8). Photoinduced dissociation of anionic and electron detachment of dianionic gold clusters by use of a laser pointer

Abstract Size-selected anionic and dianionic gold clusters have been stored in a Penning trap and irradiated with the green light of a laser pointer. As examples of special interest, the systems Au 7 − and Au 29 2− have been chosen. In particular, Au 7 − , a small gold cluster with closed electron shell, is observed to decay into Au 6 − and Au 5 − with a decay pathway branching ratio similar to that of Au 9 + . The dianionic cluster Au 29 2− shows electron detachment upon photoexcitation. This observation is in agreement with independent experiments [Stoermer et al., Int. J. Ab Initio Simulation of Clusters: Relativistic Effects in Structure and Bonding of Noble Metal Nanoparticles

Resolving the atomic and electronic structures of nanoclusters represents an important preliminary for their controlled use in future nanotechnologies. Here we show through the comparison of density-functional calculations with high-resolution photoelectron spectroscopy that 1.4 nm nanoparticles of silver (negatively charged clusters of 53 to 58 atoms) are icosahedral-based structures displaying a perfect icosahedral-induced electronic shell structure for Ag 55 − and slightly perturbed shell structures for the neighboring cluster sizes. We present a versatile approach for tuning the surface functionality of an atomically precise 25 atom gold cluster using specific host-guest interactions between ?-cyclodextrin (CD) and the ligand anchored on the cluster. The supramolecular interaction between the Au25 cluster protected by 4-(t-butyl)benzyl mercaptan, labeled Au25SBB18, and CD yielding Au25SBB18�?�CDn (n = 1, 2, 3, and 4) has been probed experimentally using various spectroscopic techniques and was further analyzed by density functional theory calculations and molecular modeling. Application of graphene quantum dots in heavy metals and pesticides detection

Graphene Quantum Dots (GQDs) were produced using electrochemical oxidation of graphite rods. Obtained GQDs were gamma-irradiated in the presence of the N atoms source, ethylenediamine. Both structural and morphological changes were investigated using UV-Vis, X-ray photoelectron and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy as well as atomic force microscopy. The ability of both types of dots to change PL intensity in the presence of pesticides such as malathion and glyphosate, as well as copper (II) ions was detected. Evidence for the attachment of Hsp150/Pir2 to the cell wall of Saccharomyces cerevisiae through disulfide bridges.

Here we present evidence that Hsp150/Pir2, a member of the Pir family of cell wall proteins, can be extracted from the purified cell walls of Saccharomyces cerevisiae by treatment with beta-mercaptoethanol, demonstrating that at least part of this protein is attached to the cell wall through disulfide bridges. We also present evidence that Pir4, another member of this family, is partly secreted to the growth medium. Finally we propose a hypothesis to explain the relationship between the differently localized forms of particular members of the Pir family of cell wall proteins.
WOx phase growth on SiO2/Si by decomposition of tungsten hexacarbonyl:Influence of potassium on supported tungsten oxide phases

International audience; Synchrotron based photoemission spectroscopy was used to study the adsorption of tungsten hexacarbonyl on SiO2 surfaces modified by potassium. Results were compared with the ones obtained when no potassium was present. Experiments using W4f and Si2p intensities variations show that, at 140 K, the tungsten hexacarbonyl growth proceeds via a simultaneous multilayer mode for the two kinds of surfaces but with differences in compositions of growing layers. Electronic structure of tetraphenyldithiapyranylidene : A valence effective Hamiltonian theoretical investigation

We present a theoretical investigation of the electronic structure of tetraphenyldithiapyranylidene (DIPSΦ4) using the nonempirical valence effective Hamiltonian (VEH) method. Molecular geometries are optimized at the semiempirical PM3 level which predicts an alternating nonaromatic structure for the dithiapyranylidene (DIPS) framework. The VEH one‐electron energy level distribution calculated for DIPSΦ4 is presented as a theoretical XPS simulation and is analyzed by comparison to the electronic structure of its molecular components DIPS and benzene.
