Investigation of buckling characteristics of cracked variable stiffness composite plates by an eXtended Ritz approach

Abstract Variable Angle Tow (VAT) composite plates are characterized by in-plane variable stiffness properties, which opens to new concepts of stiffness tailoring and optimization to achieve higher structural performance for advanced lightweight structures where damage tolerance consideration are often mandatory. In this paper, a single-domain eXtended Ritz formulation is proposed to study the buckling behaviour of variable stiffness laminated cracked plates. The interactions among water content, chlorophyll a fluorescence emission, xanthophyll interconversions and net photosynthesis were analyzed during dehydration in desiccation-tolerant Frullania dilatata (L.) Dum. and desiccation-intolerant Pellia endiviifolia (Dicks) Dum. Water loss led to a progressive suppression of photosynthetic carbon assimilation in both species. Their chlorophyll fluorescence characteristics at low water content were: low photosynthetic quantum conversion efficiency, high excitation pressure on photosystem II and strong non-photochemical quenching. Intake, decontamination and legislation of fumonisins in foods

Fumonisins (FB) are mycotoxins synthesized mainly by different species of the genus Fusarium with different toxicological effects in humans and animals and associated to esophageal cancer in different countries. This review gives an overview about the intake of fumosins from foods with a careful attention for people with gluten intolerance, celiac or Duhring's disease, infants and alcohol consumers. Furthermore, a section on decontamination is focused on physical, chemical and biological methods. Finally, the legislation of fumonisins in foods in different countries is reviewed.

In vitro cellular co-colture method to induce immunological tolerance

An in vitro method able to modulate peripheral blood mononuclear cells of patients with auto-immune organ-specific diseases is described. The protocol makes auto-reactive lymphocytes tolerogenic through a process of re-education in recognition of self-antigen after co-culture with heterologous and/or autologous fibroblast limbal stem cells.
