The ultimate message : a study of medieval tombstones in ducal Burgundy : 12th-16th centuries

The tombstone has long been neglected by historians. As obituaries and wills, tombstones reveal as much the relationship of the deceased to death that the management of their memory by their heirs. This study first shows the wealth of medieval Burgundy graves goods. Typological diversity adds to the richness of iconography with large amounts of effigial monuments. Tombs materialize burial of prestige. Originally reserved for prelates and princes, burial ad ecclesiam progressively extended to the feudal aristocracy and the bourgeoisie. Epigrafía árabe del Emirato (siglo IX). Lápida de Tudela y estela de una omeya

Repaso de la epigrafía del emirato y del protocolo de sus epitafios, con edición, traducción y estudio de dos piezas labradas con escritura árabe de estilo cúfico «arcaico». Una lápida se halló, fuera de contexto, en excavaciones practicadas junto a la catedral de Tudela; la otra es el epitafio de una dama Omeya descubierto antes de 1960, sin duda en la ciudad de Córdoba. Estas lápidas emirales se incorporan a la treintena de inscripciones conocidas del siglo IX en la Península Ibérica.

Italian Abstract: Nella chiesa annessa al complesso monastico basiliano, sito nel quartiere Immacolata di Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto (Messina), e custodita una lapide sepolcrale raffigurante un uomo adulto scolpito a bassorilievo, con una lunga spada posta davanti al corpo e un cane con la testa mozzata ai piedi. Fonti settecentesche tramandano che la lapide era un tempo collocata nella chiesa di Santa Maria di Gala e riportano, seguendo la tradizione locale, che essa raffigurava Simone il Normanno, figlio di Adelasia e Ruggero I, sepolto a Gala. The initial part of the article presents a brief history of Czech people in Polish Zelów as well as characteristics of this group of residents. The main part concerns description of names of descendants of Czech residents of Zelów. Material for analysis comes from tombstone inscriptions of the cemetery of the Evangelical-Reformed parish in Zelów. Authoress emphasizes that on the one hand anthroponyms reflect history, culture, and realities of life and on the other hand contacts with other nations. In this regard, she indicates those elements that attest to Czech continuum and characteristics of the phenomenon of linguistic and cultural assimilation of this group of Zelów’s residents.
