With the explosion of urban waterfront revitalization projects in the developed world, it is timely to reflect on the relations between cities and their rivers: how the rivers influenced development of the cities, how cities have treated their riverfronts since 19th century, and how the spatial relations of city and river constrain and enable improved connectivity between urban populations and their rivers. Behaviour of Extractives in Norway Spruce (Picea abies) Bark during Pile Storage

The current practices regarding the procurement chain of forest industry sidestreams, such as conifer bark, do not always lead to optimal conditions for preserving individual chemical compounds. This study investigates the standard way of storing bark in large piles in an open area. We mainly focus on the degradation of the most essential hydrophilic and hydrophobic extractives and carbohydrates. First, two large 450 m3 piles of bark from Norway spruce (Picea abies) were formed, one of which was covered with snow. The degradation of the bark extractives was monitored for 24 weeks. Valsts uzņēmumi ieņem aizvien nozīmīgāku lomu pasaules ekonomikā, tostarp ārvalstu tiešajās investīcijās. Pētījuma mērķis ir noskaidrot, kādos gadījumos valsts uzņēmums var prasīt savu investīciju aizsardzību, konkrēti – netradicionāli ieņemt prasītāja statusu starptautiskos investīciju strīdos iepretim citai valstij. Mērķa sasniegšanai aplūkots investora jēdziens starptautiskajos investīciju aizsardzības līgumos, kā arī valsts un valsts uzņēmuma nošķīrums investīciju šķīrējtiesu praksē. Pētnieciskajā darbā identificēti galvenie izaicinājumi investīciju tiesību režīmam, pieļaujot valsts uzņēmumam prasītāja lomu investīciju strīdos, kā arī piedāvāti to risinājumi.

È stato effettuato uno studio di caso ispirato ai principi pedagogici della prospettiva Student Voice. Venticinque studenti universitari hanno partecipato, tra il mese di novembre 2015 e il mese di febbraio 2016, a due attività formative: tre sessioni di scrittura espressiva e quattro colloqui individuali di peer-tutoring. Problēmas aktualitāte. Vecuma makulas deģenerācija (VMD) ir galvenais akluma cēlonis pasaulē pēc 50 gadu vecuma. Jau vairākus gadus pacientiem Latvijā ir iespējams saņemt vismūsdienīgāko vecuma makulas deģenerācijas mitrās formas ārstēšanu, intravitreāli ievadot asinsvadu endotēlija augšanas faktora inhibitorus (antiVEGF), bet līdz galam nav skaidrs, cik daudz un cik bieži būtu vēlams to darīt. Tāpēc joprojām notiek pētījumi, lai salīdzinātu preparātu efektivitāti, injekciju ievadīšanas biežumu un indikācijas. Darba mērķis. Vizuālās meklēšanas uzdevuma veikšana uz volumetriskā ekrāna dažādās vecuma grupās

Bakalaura darbs ir uzrakstīts latviešu valodā uz 26 lapām. Tas satur 12 attēlus un 36 atsauces uz literatūras avotiem. Darba mērķis bija izpētīt dažāda vecuma cilvēku vizuālās meklēšanas spējas un atšķirības, veicot uzdevumu uz volumetriskā daudzplakņu ekrāna. 20 pētījuma dalībnieki bija sadalīti divās vecuma grupās (19-29 g. un 47-57 g.). Viņi veica vizuālās meklēšanas uzdevumus ar dažādu skaitu elementu un mērķa-distraktora līdzību. Dalībniekam bija jāatrod mērķa stimuls un jānosaka tā relatīvā atrašanas vieta uz volumetriskā ekrāna. Cauliflower has been described as a vegetable with a high nutritional value due to its important content of vitamins, antioxidants and anti-carcinogenic compounds. Cauliflower inflorescences are harvested while they are totally immature, which implies severe changes in nutrient, water and hormonal status. Harvesting and the following processing can cause a severe stress determining the appearance of accelerated senescence symptoms. Hydroseeding is a technique increasingly used to establish vegetation on degraded areas in order to perform environmental protection. The objective of this paper was to evaluate the effectiveness of four different hydroseeding methods on a degraded artificial slope in the southern Mediterranean area determining total vegetation cover, hydroseeding vegetation cover, hydroseeding success index (HSI), natural and hydroseeded vegetation height. The aim of this article is to explore multidisciplinary peer-mentoring groups (PMGs) facilitated by senior academics as a knowledge sharing practice in doctoral education. Drawing from interviews with participants of PMGs at a Finnish university, we found that the participants perceived that cultures and practices of doctoral education in departments and faculties, as well as limited support from supervisors might hinder knowledge sharing. For the participation in the frequency control of the system, power converters can be controlled with different strategies and methods, sharing the common concept of virtual inertia capability. In this work, a sensitivity analysis of two main categories of converter controls with virtual inertia is presented.
