Gravitational Waves from the Papaloizou-Pringle Instability in Black-Hole-Torus Systems

Black hole (BH)--torus systems are promising candidates for the central engine of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), and also possible outcomes of the collapse of supermassive stars to supermassive black holes (SMBHs). By three-dimensional general relativistic numerical simulations, we show that an $m=1$ nonaxisymmetric instability grows for a wide range of self-gravitating tori orbiting BHs. The resulting nonaxisymmetric structure persists for a timescale much longer than the dynamical one, becoming a strong emitter of large amplitude, quasiperiodic gravitational waves. Tracing symmetries and their breakdown through phases of heterotic (2,2) compactifications

We are considering the class of heterotic $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ Landau-Ginzburg orbifolds with 9 fields corresponding to $A_1^9$ Gepner models. We classify all of its Abelian discrete quotients and obtain 152 inequivalent models closed under mirror symmetry with $\mathcal{N}=1,2$ and $4$ supersymmetry in 4D. We compute the full massless matter spectrum at the Fermat locus and find a universal relation satisfied by all models. In addition we give prescriptions of how to compute all quantum numbers of the 4D states including their discrete R-symmetries. Post-Double Hopf Bifurcation Dynamics and Adaptive Synchronization of a Hyperchaotic System

In this paper a four-dimensional hyperchaotic system with only one equilibrium is considered and its double Hopf bifurcations are investigated. The general post-bifurcation and stability analysis are carried out using the normal form of the system obtained via the method of multiple scales. The dynamics of the orbits predicted through the normal form comprises possible regimes of periodic solutions, two-period tori, and three-period tori in parameter space. Moreover, we show how the hyperchaotic synchronization of this system can be realized via an adaptive control scheme. Numerical simulations are included to show the effectiveness of the designed control.

Spectrometric analysis of inner divertor materials of JET carbon and ITER-like walls

Abstract One of main reasons of the Joint European torus (JET) transformation from the carbon (JET-C) to ITER-like (JET-ILW) wall was high tritium retention of carbon. In order to compare the tritium retention, samples of analogous positions of the plasma-facing side of vertical tiles No. 3 of two campaigns: JET-C (2008–2009) and JET-ILW (2011–2012) were cut out. Temperature-programmed tritium desorption spectrometry in He + 0.1% H2 gas flow showed that JET-C sample without a tungsten coating had by a factor of >20 higher surface concentration of tritium than JET-ILW tungsten-coated sample: 4.9 × 1013 and 1.7–2.2 × 1012 T atoms/cm2 respectively. Current status of the torus palatinus and torus mandibularis

While there is a hereditary component to tori, this does not explain all cases. Tori tend to appear more frequently during middle age of life; the torus palatinus is more commonly observed in females, but this is not the case with the torus mandibularis. Certain ethnic groups are more prone to one torus or the other. The torus is mainly removed due to prostodontic reasons, as it may also be used as biomaterial, not only in periodontology, but also in implantology. Tritium sorption and desorption from JET beryllium tiles under temperature, electron radiation and magnetic field

Abstract Tritium release at annealing of samples cut from beryllium tiles exposed to D + D, D + T plasma in the Joint European Torus (JET) was investigated under 5 MeV fast-electron radiation at the dose rate 14 MGy h −1 and in a magnetic field of 1.7 T separately and simultaneously in order to evaluate possible effects of these factors. Abundances of chemical forms of tritium—molecular T 2 (44%), atomic T 0 (42%), and ionic T + (14%) and their distribution were determined in the plasma-exposed beryllium samples with lyomethods. Strange attractor for the renormalization flow for invariant tori of Hamiltonian systems with two generic frequencies

We analyze the stability of invariant tori for Hamiltonian systems with two degrees of freedom by constructing a transformation that combines Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser theory and renormalization-group techniques. This transformation is based on the continued fraction expansion of the frequency of the torus. We apply this transformation numerically for arbitrary frequencies that contain bounded entries in the continued fraction expansion. We give a global picture of renormalization flow for the stability of invariant tori, and we show that the properties of critical (and near critical) tori can be obtained by analyzing renormalization dynamics around a single hyperbolic strange attractor. On Radon Transforms on Tori

We show injectivity of the X-ray transform and the $d$-plane Radon transform for distributions on the $n$-torus, lowering the regularity assumption in the recent work by Abouelaz and Rouvi\`ere. We also show solenoidal injectivity of the X-ray transform on the $n$-torus for tensor fields of any order, allowing the tensors to have distribution valued coefficients. These imply new injectivity results for the periodic broken ray transform on cubes of any dimension.

Evolution by mean curvature flow of Lagrangian spherical surfaces in complex Euclidean plane

We describe the evolution under the mean curvature flow of embedded Lagrangian spherical surfaces in the complex Euclidean plane $\mathbb{C}^2$. In particular, we answer the Question 4.7 addressed in [Ne10b] by A. Neves about finding out a condition on a starting Lagrangian torus in $\mathbb{C}^2$ such that the corresponding mean curvature flow becomes extinct at finite time and converges after rescaling to the Clifford torus.
