Comparison of pegylated interferon α-2b plus psoralen PUVA versus standard interferon α-2a plus PUVA in patients with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma
2011
Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy profile of pegylated interferon α-2b (PEG-IFN α-2b) in combination with photochemotherapy (PUVA) in the treatment of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) in comparison with standard IFN α plus PUVA. Design Retrospective cohort study over a period of 7 years. Patients and interventions A total of 17 consecutive CTCL patients (stage IA–IV) were retrospectively analysed for toxicity and response rates associated with PEG-IFN α-2b (1.5 μg/kg weekly) plus PUVA (n = 9) or standard IFN α-2a (9 MIU 3×/week) plus PUVA (n = 8). Main outcome measures Differences of response rates (complete/partial remission), progression-free surv…
Serum isoniazid concentration in the patients as an indicator of the effectiveness and toxicity of tuberculosis treatment
2019
Introduction The low serum concentration of the anti-tuberculosis (TB) drugs in TB patients is observed quite often, but the significance of this phenomenon remains controversial. Aim The aim of the presented research was to clarify the association between isoniazid concentration and TB-treatment outcomes. Material and methods Blood samples were obtained from 86 patients with newly diagnosed pulmonary TB at Odessa Regional TB Hospital in 2015. The level of isoniazid in blood was measured 2 h, 4 h, 6 h, and 24 h after the administration of isoniazid. The medical records of the enrolled patients at the beginning and at the end of the in-patient treatment, and the activity of the biochemical i…
Impact of Cumulative Dose of Carfilzomib in Combination with Lenalidomide and Dexamethasone in Relapsed Refractory Myeloma Patients: A Retrospective …
2018
Abstract Background: Triplet-based lenalidomide plus dexamethasone (Rd) combinations have become the new standard of care for early relapse and refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM). Carfilzomib is a novel selective proteasome inhibitor (PI) with high efficacy in RRMM. The ASPIRE phase 3 trial showed the superiority of carfilzomib-based triplet (KRd compared to Rd), leading to approval of K for RRMM. However, little is known about safety and efficacy of KRd outside a clinical trial context. Experimental design and aims: In 11 Sicilian Centers belonging to the Sicilian Myeloma Network, from November 2016, when KRd regimen was approved in Italy, to June 2018, 103 consecutive RRMM patients (previ…
Patient preferences in the treatment of hemophilia A: impact of storage conditions on product choice

Data were collected via a 30-minute, face-to-face interview in six countries and via a web-based…
An unusual fatal case of overdose of Vinblastine and review of literature
2017
The pharmacological treatment of neoplasia is based on the use of chemotherapeutic substances. Chemotherapeutic agents can cause acute and chronic toxicity even at therapeutic doses. For this reason their overdose puts a patientâs life at severe risk. This work presents an unusual fatal case of overdose subsequent to an accidental massive administration of Vinblastine (90Â mg instead of 9Â mg), slow bolus (five minutes), to a 33-year-old woman who suffered from Hodgkinâs Lymphoma. The administration of the massive dose was due to a transcription error of the therapeutic treatment plan and miscommunication between the health professionals which caused the use of the wrong dose. The foren…
Wellbeing and occupational risk perception among health care workers: a multicenter study in Morocco and France
2016
International audience; BACKGROUND: The study analyzes health care workers' (HCWs) occupational risk perception and compares exposure to occupational risk factors in Moroccan and French hospitals.METHOD: Across nine public hospitals from three Moroccan regions (north, center and south), a 49 item French questionnaire, based on the Job Content Questionnaire, and 4 occupational risks subscales, was distributed to 4746 HCWs. Internal consistency of the study was determined for each subscale. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted on the Moroccan questionnaire. Psychosocial job demand, job decision latitude and social support scores analysis was used to isolate high strain jobs. Occupationa…
The evolution of European Medicines Agency drug approval: the adaptive licensing: Table 1
2015
In March 2014, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) launched a pilot project of ‘adaptive licensing’ to speed up access to drugs in development, in order to respond to unmet medical needs. The project will involve parallel scientific advice from the regulatory agency, pharmaceutical industry, the companies Health Technology Assessment (HTAs) bodies, organisations studying guidelines on clinical treatment and patient associations. The traditional process of drug authorisation is divided into several parts, involving in vitro studies and in vivo studies in animals (preclinical studies), as well as phase 1–3 randomised controlled trials conducted in humans over a predefined period. When authori…
Determinants of elevated carbohydrate antigen 125 in patients with severe symptomatic aortic valve stenosis referred for transcatheter aortic valve i…
2018
Elevated carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125) predicts adverse outcome after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). While known underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of elevated CA125 include serosal effusions and inflammatory stimuli, clinical determinants associated with elevated CA125 in patients referred for TAVI remain unknown. Therefore, we investigated clinical, laboratory and echocardiographic determinants of elevated CA125 in patients with severe aortic valve stenosis referred for TAVI.This study includes 650 patients with severe aortic stenosis referred for TAVI. Baseline CA125 was determined by an immunoassay and dichotomized (elevated versus normal) based on the manufact…
