Emotional and Behavioral Consequences of the COVID-19 Pandemic: The Role of Health Anxiety, Intolerance of Uncertainty, and Distress (In)Tolerance.
2020
The COVID-19 pandemic represents a worldwide threat to mental health. To optimize the allocation of health care resources, research on specific vulnerability factors, such as health anxiety, intolerance of uncertainty, and distress (in)tolerance, and particularly their effect on the time course of SARS-CoV-2 related anxiety appears crucial for supporting high risk groups suffering from elevated mental distress during the pandemic. N = 887 participants (78.4% female
Changes in Alcohol Consumption Pattern Based on Gender during COVID-19 Confinement in Spain
2021
(1) The goal of this study was to analyze the prevalence and pattern of alcohol consumption (frequency of consumption, average daily consumption, and risky consumption) before and during confinement due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the adult population and based on gender. (2) Methods: Data from 3779 individuals were collected via a set of online surveys. The AUDIT alcohol consumption questions (AUDIT-C) were used to measure the frequency of consumption, the average daily consumption, intensive consumption, risky consumption, and standard drink units. (3) Results: During confinement, the prevalence of alcohol consumption declined in both males and females, but only intensive con…
Chlorinated Hydrocarbon Residues (PCB and DDT) in Human Liver, Adipose Tissue and Brain in Finland
2009
In this work the concentration of chlorinated hydrocarbons (PCB and DDT) was analyzed from 73 autopsy samples. Half of the material came from the coastal area of the Gulf of Bothnia and the other half from Central Finland. The correlation of the concentration of the drug to age, sex and the locality was studied as well as the occupation of the dead subjects.
Autoreactive liver-infiltrating T cells in primary biliary cirrhosis recognize inner mitochondrial epitopes and the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex.
1993
Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) is characterized by lymphoid infiltrates in the portal tracts of the liver and the occurrence of antimitochondrial autoantibodies in serum directed against components of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex and the other alpha-keto acid dehydrogenase complexes. These enzymes are located on the inner mitochondrial membrane. The destruction of the biliary tract in PBC is thought to be mediated by autoreactive liver-infiltrating T cells exerting cytotoxic activity or releasing certain lymphokines. In this study the reactivity of liver infiltrating T cells was shown to a bovine pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDH), a purified E2 subunit (PDH-E2) and a crude prepara…
Reactivation of chronic type B hepatitis: the effect on expression of serum HBV-DNA and pre-S encoded proteins.
1988
Hepatitis B markers were studied in seven patients with reactivated liver disease. Reactivation of chronic type B hepatitis, as indicated by the reappearance of hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) in the serum, was characterised by the appearance of hepatitis B virus-DNA (HBV-DNA) in the serum. The expression of pre-S 1 encoded protein remained unchanged in five of seven patients, and poly-HSA as a marker for pre-S 2 encoded protein remained detectable in six of seven patients before and after reactivation of chronic hepatitis. The level of serum HBV-DNA correlated well with the level of liver enzymes, which rose from normal to various levels after reactivation of the liver disease. The data sugg…
Frequency of micronucleus in oral epithelial cells after exposure to mate-tea in healthy humans
2014
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the possibility of technique simplification for cytology slides in order to evaluate the frequency of micronuclei (FMic) and conduct a experiment looking to know the FMic of oral epithelial cells of healthy volunteers exposed to mate tea (Ilex paraguarariensis). Material and Methods: This is a laboratorial and nonrandomized trial (quasi-experiment), where the nonusers subjects were exposed to mate-tea, consumed in the traditional way, two drinks, two times a day for a single week. Two cytology of exfoliated epithelial cells were obtained before and after the mate tea exposition. Results: The sample was composed by 10 volunteers. The age rang…
Risk assessment of benzene in food samples of Iran's market
2018
Abstract The concentration of benzene in ninety-eight collected food and drink samples (carbonated beverage, fruit juice, pickle, lime juice, mayonnaise and salad dressing, 16 samples from each) from Iran local markets were investigated using gas chromatography equipped with flame ionization detector (GC-FID). Moreover, the correlation of benzene concentration with sodium benzoate and ascorbic acid concentrations was assessed. Benzene concentration in carbonated beverages, fruit juices, pickle, lime juices, mayonnaise and salad dressing were 3.57 ± 1.70, 5.17 ± 3.63, 4.37 ± 2.24, 4.99 ± 0.54, 1.38 ± 0.87 and 1.47 ± 0.83 μg/L, respectively, being in all cases below the acceptable limit (10 μ…
Effects of a Motivational Climate on Psychological Needs Satisfaction, Motivation and Commitment in Teen Handball Players
2019
The aim of this study was to examine the effects of the motivational climate created by the coach and perceived by a group of young high-performance handball players on their sport motivation, self-determination, sport psychological needs and sport commitment. The study participants were 479 young handball players. The age range was 16&ndash
Functional patterns of cytomegalovirus (CMV) pp65 and immediate early-1-specific CD8+T cells that are associated with protection from and control of …
2015
Background The functional profile of cytomegalovirus (CMV)-specific CD8+ T cells that associate with protection from and control of CMV DNAemia in allogeneic stem cell transplant (allo-SCT) recipients remains incompletely characterized. Methods We enumerated pp65 and immediate early (IE)-1-specific CD8+ T cells expressing interferon-gamma, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and CD107a, by flow cytometry in 94 patients at days +30 and +60 after allo-SCT. Results Fifty of 94 patients had CMV DNAemia within the first 100 days after transplant. CMV-specific CD8+ T-cell responses (of any functional type) were more likely to be detected in patients who did not display CMV DNAemia than in those who did …
Commuting Accidents in the German Chemical Industry
2010
Due to accident severity and the extent of claim payments commuting accidents are a significant expense factor in the German industry. Therefore the aim of the present study was the identification of risk factors for commuting accidents in a German chemical company. A retrospective analysis of commuting accidents recorded between 1990 and 2003 was conducted in a major chemical company in Germany. A logistic regression-model was calculated in order to determine factors influencing the duration of work inability as a result of commuting accidents. The analysed data included 5,484 employees with commuting accidents. Cars (33.1%) and bicycles (30.5%) were the most common types of vehicles used …
