INTRODUCTION We examined the neural mechanisms responsible for plantar flexion torque changes at different joint positions. METHODS Nine subjects performed maximal voluntary contractions (MVC) at 6 ankle-knee angle combinations [3 ankle angles (dorsiflexion, anatomic position, plantar flexion) and 2 knee angles (flexion, full extension)]. Lateral connections between muscles provide pathways for myofascial force transmission. To elucidate whether these pathways have functional roles in vivo, we examined whether activation could alter the shear between the soleus (SOL) and lateral gastrocnemius (LG) muscles. We hypothesized that selective activation of LG would decrease the stretch-induced shear between LG and SOL. Immune-mediated rippling muscle disease with myasthenia gravis: a report of seven patients with long-term follow-up in two.

We report seven patients with immune-mediated rippling muscle disease (iRMD) and AChR-antibody positive myasthenia gravis (MG) without germline caveolin-3 gene mutations. We describe the follow-up of two patients and the clinical features of five new patients (1 female, 4 male, aged 32 to 69 years). These presented with significant generalized, exercise-induced and electrically-silent muscle rippling with myalgia, combined with generalized MG. In two of the seven patients, MG appeared before iRMD. Mediastinal imaging excluded thymic alterations in all, although two had other coincident tumours. Extraction with organic solvents is a traditional method to isolate bioactive compounds, which is energy-wasting and time-consuming. Therefore, enzyme and ultrasound treatments were combined to assist the extraction of oligomeric procyanidins from litchi pericarp (LPOPC), as an innovative approach to replace conventional extraction methods. Under optimum conditions (enzyme concentration 0.12 mg/mL, ultrasonic power 300 W, ultrasonic time 80 min, and liquid/solid ratio 10 mL/g), the yield of LPOPC could be improved up to 13.5%.
