Appraisals in Italy Identity, contents, prospects
2018
The paper presents the results of a wide field research concerning the teaching of appraisal studies in the courses of Architecture and Engineering in Italian universities. This general report, including critical observations and interpretations, provides the basis for strategies to increase the presence and impact of appraisal studies. The aim is to spread the personal and professional awareness that the estimative sensibility is a key element for the knowledge and planning of the city and the territory. The paper is divided into three coalescing parts. The first highlights the presence of appraisal teaching in different universities and courses of study, and answers the questions: from wh…
Educar
2015
2019
This paper relates an experience carried out at a higher education setting, specifically involving 3rd-year students in the Early Childhood Education degree programme. In relation to this, the paper presents an educational model that takes into account the need to develop ethical and social competences and gives importance to interdisciplinary education in real contexts. To this aim, all the academic modules that form part of this degree programme devote 25% of their teaching time and evaluation to the development of an interdisciplinary project. This paper will describe one of these projects, entitled "Solve a real problem", the design of which is informed by service-learning and problem-b…
Medical Data Mining for Heart Diseases and the Future of Sequential Mining in Medical Field
2018
Data Mining in general is the act of extracting interesting patterns and discovering non-trivial knowledge from a large amount of data. Medical data mining can be used to understand the events happened in the past, i.e. studying a patients vital signs to understand his complications and discover why he has died, or to predict the future by analyzing the events that had happened. In this chapter we are presenting an overview on studies that use data mining to predict heart failure and heart diseases classes. We will also focus on one of the trendiest data-mining field, namely the Sequential Mining, which is a very promising paradigm. Due to its important results in many fields, this chapter …
Overview on Sequential Mining Algorithms and Their Extensions
2018
The main purpose of data mining is to extract hidden, important and nontrivial information from a database. Sequential Pattern Mining is a data mining technique that aims to obtain and analyze frequent subsequences from sequences of events or items with or without time constraint. The importance of a sequence can be measured based on different factors such as the frequency of their occurrence, their length and also their profit. The pattern mining or the discovery of important and unexpected patterns and information was first introduced in 1990 with the well-known Apriori algorithm. Then, and after many studies on frequent pattern mining, a new approach appeared: Sequential Pattern Mining. …
Effects of high intensity resistance aquatic training on body composition and walking speed in women with mild knee osteoarthritis : a 4-month RCT wi…
2017
Objective: To investigate the effects of 4-months intensive aquatic resistance training on body composition and walking speed in post-menopausal women with mild knee osteoarthritis (OA), immediately after intervention and after 12-months follow-up. Additionally, influence of leisure time physical activity (LTPA) will be investigated. Design: This randomised clinical trial assigned eighty-seven volunteer postmenopausal women into two study arms. The intervention group (n = 43) participated in 48 supervised intensive aquatic resistance training sessions over 4-months while the control group (n = 44) maintained normal physical activity. Eighty four participants continued into the 12-months' fo…
Branch-Price-and-Cut for the Soft-Clustered Capacitated Arc-Routing Problem
2021
The soft-clustered capacitated arc-routing problem (SoftCluCARP) is a variant of the classical capacitated arc-routing problem. The only additional constraint is that the set of required edges, that is, the streets to be serviced, is partitioned into clusters, and feasible routes must respect the soft-cluster constraint, that is, all required edges of the same cluster must be served by the same vehicle. In this article, we design an effective branch-price-and-cut algorithm for the exact solution of the SoftCluCARP. Its new components are a metaheuristic and branch-and-cut-based solvers for the solution of the column-generation subproblem, which is a profitable rural clustered postman tour …
Solving the length constrained K-drones rural postman problem
2021
[EN] In this paper we address the Length Constrained K-Drones Rural Postman Problem (LC K-DRPP). This is a continuous optimization problem where a fleet of homogeneous drones have to jointly service (traverse) a set of (curved or straight) lines of a network. Unlike the vehicles in classical arc routing problems, a drone can enter a line through any of its points, service a portion of that line, exit through another of its points, then travel directly to any point on another line, and so on. Moreover, since the range of the drones is restricted, the length of each route is limited by a maximum distance. Some applications for drone arc routing problems include inspection of pipelines, railwa…
Teaching Archaeological Heritage Management: Towards a Change in Paradigms
2018
The concept of archaeological heritage management (AHM) has been key to wider archaeological research and preservation agendas for some decades. Many universities and other education providers now offer what is best termed heritage management education (HME) in various forms. The emphasis is commonly on archaeological aspects of heritage in a broad sense and different terms are often interchangeable in practice. In an innovative working-conference held in Tampere, Finland, we initiated a debate on what the components of AHM as a course or curriculum should include. We brought together international specialists and discussed connected questions around policy, practice, research and teaching/…
