Asystent osoby starszej. Konieczność kształcenia do nowej specjalności w pracy socjalnej
2016
Stale rosnąca liczba osób w podeszłym wieku i coraz większa ich aktywność społeczna wywołały konieczność zawodowego kształcenia specjalistów w zakresie asys…
Koulumenestyjät: tutkimus laudaturylioppilaiden koulutus- ja työurista
2002
Millaisista lähtökohdista tulevat koulumenestyjät ja miten he sijoittuvat työelämään? Mikä merkitys hyvällä koulumenestyksellä on huippuoppilaiden elämässä ollut? Tämän väitöskirjatutkimuksen tarkoituksena on etsiä vastauksia edellä mainittuihin kysymyksiin. Toisessa osiossa koulumenestyjien elämänvaiheita seurataan kuuden laudaturin ylioppilaiden kirjoittamien tarinoiden avulla. Kertomukset tuovat esiin sen, kuinka yhdenmukaisten tila…
Motivational sources of practical nursing students at risk of dropping out from vocational education and training
2019
The aim of this study was to contribute to the understanding of the reasons for low or high academic motivation among practical nursing students at risk of dropping out from vocational education and training. The research data consisted of semi-structured interviews with 14 Finnish students, which were analysed by qualitative content analysis. The analysis identified six motivational sources. Two of these sources – Responsible agency and Completing out of necessity – were related to engagement in studying, whereas two other sources – Exhaustion from learning challenges and Tight-roping between competing responsibilities – were related to disengagement from studying. Emotional drive and Soci…
Early science learning with a virtual tutor through multimedia explanations and feedback on spoken questions
2018
The purpose of this pilot study with a within-subject design was to gain a deeper understanding about the promise and restrictions of a virtual tutoring system designed to teach science to first grade students in Finland. Participants were 61 students who received six tutoring science sessions of approximately 20 min each. Sessions consisted of a sequence of narrated multimedia science presentations during which a virtual tutor explained science phenomena displayed in pictures. Narrated science explanations were followed by one or more multiple choice questions with immediate feedback about students’ choices and a possible second attempt, during which students reached 97% accuracy. A pretes…
Is Training Effective? Evaluating Training Effectiveness in Call Centers
2015
Due to complex, competitive and crucial nature of call center jobs, organizations in services industry are spending more resources than ever on staff training and development. This is the case also in Call Center Representative Training. However, although organizations invest billions of dollars every year in training, no concrete evaluation framework exists to adequately quantify the impact of Call Center Representative (Henceforth CCR) training on actual job performance. Filling this gap, current study attempts to develop a framework to evaluate training programs in the context of call center industry using Kirkpatrick’s learning and training evaluation model. Developed framework is then …
Meaningful learning in teacher education
2018
This study explores meaningful learning in the context of teacher education. The study showed the importance of course design in generating meaningful learning. Opportunities to gain strong experience are crucial to meaningful learning. Meaningful learning provides space for both positive and uncomfortable emotions. peerReviewed
Specificity of weightlifting bench exercises in kayaking sprint performance: A perspective for neuromuscular training
2022
Several studies showed significant differences between bench lift exercises without investigating which is more related, in biomechanical and neuromuscular terms, to improve the sprint flatwater kayak performance. This study aims to compare the power-load and velocity-load neuromuscular parameters performed in prone bench pull (PBP), and bench press (BP) exercises to identify which of them meet the gesture specificity in sprint flatwater kayak performance. Ten elite kayakers participated in this study. Power-load, velocity-load relationships, the maximum dynamic strength, and the kayak sprint performance test were assessed. The power-load and velocity-load relationships showed significant d…
Optometrisko treniņu efektivitāte bērniem ar mācīšanās grūtībām
2020
Effects of 10 weeks of military training on neuromuscular function in non-overreached and overreached conscripts
2019
The purpose of the study was to examine how military training influences neuromuscular function in non-overreached and overreached conscripts. A total of 24 male conscripts participated in the study (8 weeks basic training + 2 weeks specialized training). All measurements were conducted during weeks 1, 5, 8 and 10. After the training period, non-overreached (NOR, n = 16) and overreached (OR, n = 8) groups were compared. Isometric maximal forces (bench press, elbow flexion and knee extension), single twitch (plantar flexors), H-reflex, M-wave (Hmax/Mmax) and V-wave (V/Mmax) (soleus) were measured. In knee extension, force production increased in NOR by 22.5 ± 20.5% (p 0.05). In OR, plantarf…
